2016 HockomockSports Girls Lacrosse Awards
North Attleboro senior midfielder Hana Caster has been named the 2016 HockomockSports.com Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year. Caster led the Rocketeers to a second place finish in the Kelley-Rex division and was named a Hockomock All-Star by the league’s coaches.

Caster finished the season with 61 goals, which was second on the team, but also added a league-high 46 assists. Her 107 points were second best in the league this spring and a major factor in North Attleboro’s return to the postseason and the program’s first ever home tournament game.

“Hana has a burst of pace that few in the league can match, but she also has the guile to make plays against defenses loaded up to try and stop her,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry. “She is more than capable of scoring a handful of goals per game and also keeps her teammates involved with a great eye for a pass.”

In the opening round game of the tournament, Caster scored four goals to propel North Attleboro to its first playoff win in program history. The Rocketeers were knocked out by top seed and eventual state finalist Walpole in the quarterfinal.

First-year North Attleboro head coach Mike Vitelli said, “You know when teams have to change what they normally do on defense to stop one player that you’ve got a special player on your roster.

“Many teams we played this spring had to do just this to shut her down and she STILL (sic) amassed over 100 points. Leadership like that will be tough to replace.”

King Philip coach Julie Boudreau, whose team faced North Attleboro and Caster twice this year, added, “Once she gets the ball she’s nearly unstoppable. She was harder to defend this year by being more dynamic as shown in her high number of assists.”

Caster, a UMass-Lowell commit, is the first North Attleboro player to earn this honor (the previous three were each from Franklin) and the first girls’ lacrosse player to be named both Underclassman of the Year and Player of the Year in her career. Caster follows Franklin’s Marta Versprille (2013 and 2014) and Emily Jeffries (2015) to be named Player of the Year.
