Player of the Year – Jake Layman, King Philip
Senior Jake Layman has been selected as the inaugural HockomockSports.com Boys Basketball Player of the Year. The future Terp averaged 26.5 points, 15 rebounds, and 5.8 blocks for the Warriors this year, leading them to an impressive 17-3 record. Layman was selected as a league all-star and as the league MVP. The 6’8” forward paced King Philip all season and has them in position for another deep run into the D2 South tournament.

Others receiving votes (First place votes in brackets): Aaron Calixte [1] (Stoughton), Sam Bohmiller (Franklin), Brian Mukasa (Sharon), and Marcus Middleton (Stoughton).

Defensive Player of the Year – Marcus Middleton, Stoughton
The HockomockSports.com Staff has voted the junior guard as the first ever Defensive Player of the Year. Middleton was constantly paired with the opposing team’s best player, including Jake Layman, Oliver Ames’ Nick Bruha, Sharon’s Brian Mukasa, and more. Marcus has proved his durability time in and time out, efficiently shutting down top scorers for extended periods of time.

Others receiving votes: Jake Layman [1] (KP), Christian Fair (KP), Chris Walsh (Att), and Jason McKie (Franklin).

Underclassman of the Year – Brian Mukasa, Sharon
Sophomore Brian Mukasa had an excellent second year with the Eagles, leading the team with 15.5 points per game, including an impressive 32 points in a fourth quarter comeback earlier this season against Silver Lake Regional High School. He was selected as a league all-star this year and if this season is any indication of his talent, the Hockomock is looking at one of their premier talents over the course of the next two seasons. The Eagles did not qualify for the post season, which could make the guard even hungrier next season.

Others receiving votes: Michael Hershman (Mansfield), Brendan Hill (Mansfield), Tim Walsh (Attleboro), Josh Patkin (Foxboro)

Coach of the Year – Dean O’Connor, Franklin
In one of the closest votes, Dean O’Connor has been named HockomockSpots.com’s first ever Coach of the Year for his impressive campaign with the Franklin Panthers this season. After an 0-3 start, O’Connor kept his team thinking positive and the results kept coming. They were able to rattle off 10 straight wins and by seasons end, were crowned Kelley-Rex Champions for the first time in school history. Now, O’Connor has positioned his team to possibly host a playoff game, which would give them a big advantage inside the field house at Franklin High School.

Others receiving votes: Ryan Gordy [2] (Canton), John Gallivan (Stoughton), Sean McInnis (KP), Mike Vaughan (Mansfield)
