Clara Blongastainer 2026 HockomockSports Girls Lacrosse Awards
Franklin sophomore attacker Clara Blongastainer has been named the 2026 HockomockSports.com Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year. Blongastainer led the Panthers in scoring this season, firing them to a 15th straight league title and a spot in the Div. 1 quarterfinal.

“After a terrific freshman season, Clara took her game to a higher level this spring,” said HockomockSports Managing Editor Josh Perry. “When Clara wanted to get to the cage, it was nearly impossible for defenses to stop her, and that aggressiveness and physicality also made her a force on draws. She keeps adding new dimensions to her game and it will be fun to see how far she can go over the next two years.”

Blongastainer, who was named HockomockSports.com Underclassman of the Year as a freshman and this spring was selected as the Kelley-Rex division MVP by the league’s coaches, made a big leap this season, scoring 101 goals and dishing out 17 assists to finish with a league-high 118 points. She also snagged 154 draw controls, ensuring that the Panthers had multiple possessions and more chances to attack, which contributed to Franklin leading the league with 316 goals (nearly 60 more than any other team). Blongastainer also stepped up in the big games, like scoring six goals in the playoff opener against Andover and recording four points and grabbing four draw controls to beat Bishop Feehan in the Sweet Sixteen.

“Clara is only a sophomore, but took on a huge role this year as our primary draw taker and goal scorer,” said Franklin coach Kristin Igoe Guarino. “Her ability to get to the cage is one of the best Franklin lacrosse has ever had.”

Blongastainer is the first sophomore to earn this honor. She joins fellow Panthers Marta Versprille (2013 and 2014), Emily Jeffries (2015), and Annie Walsh (2019) as girls lacrosse players of the year and follows North Attleboro’s Hana Caster, Foxboro’s Sophia DiCenso, King Philip’s Makenzie McDevitt, and Walsh as players who earned both Underclassman of the Year and Player of the Year honors.

With a relatively young lineup that featured three freshman starters, Powers led the Bulldogs to a 5-0 start and nine wins in their first 11 games.
