Franklin’s Ryan Gerety didn’t hear his name called in the MLB Draft this weekend, but he didn’t have to wait long for his chance to join a professional organization.

Gerety is signing with the San Diego Padres organization according to Jacob Rudner of Baseball America. He will report to Arizona next week to the Peoria Sports Complex where the Padres hold their annual spring training.

“I’m super pumped,” Gerety said in a message to HockomockSports. “Coming into the day, I thought I had a chance to get drafted, and unfortunately that didn’t happen. But immediately, I had an opportunity from the Padres within five minutes of the draft being over. They’re taking great care of me. It’s a great organization. I can’t wait to get out there. I’m very grateful to San Diego for this chance.”

Gerety put together a breakout junior season at Northeastern in 2026, starting all 61 games and earning All-CAA First Team honors for the first time. The left-handed hitting outfielder batted .326 with a .456 on-base percentage and a .492 slugging percentage, finishing with 77 hits, 20 doubles, two triples, five home runs, and 37 RBI. He also led the Huskies with 51 walks and stole 20 bases in 26 attempts.

His biggest hit came in the CAA championship game, when Gerety delivered a walk-off single to lift Northeastern past Campbell. He earned CAA All-Tournament Team honors for the second straight season and later became just the third player in program history to earn NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team honors.

Gerety also gained experience in the Cape Cod League during each of the past three summers. He joined the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox late in the 2024 season before playing for the Harwich Mariners in 2025. Gerety returned to Harwich in June following the conclusion of Northeastern’s 2026 season.

A 2023 Franklin graduate, Ryan Gerety earned HockomockSports Second Team honors as a junior in 2022.
