Franklin graduate Jake Versprille has been hired as an assistant coach for the Boston University women’s lacrosse program, the school announced in a release Wednesday.

Versprille joins the Terriers after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Brown. He helped the Bears qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, record their highest-ranked win, and climb to a program-best #17 national ranking in 2025.

A four-year varsity midfielder at Franklin under legendary head coach Lou Verrochi, Versprille earned Hockomock League all star honors as a senior. He helped lead the Panthers to a 16-5 record and a spot in the Division 1 South quarterfinals that season. Versprille also played soccer at Franklin.

Versprille later spent six years coaching the Franklin girls lacrosse team as an assistant for Kristin Igoe Guarino, helping the Panthers win three sectional championships and reach the Division 1 state championship game in 2021.

Before joining Brown, Versprille served as an assistant coach at Tufts in 2024, helping the Jumbos finish 16-4 and advance to the NCAA quarterfinals. He previously coached at Bryant and spent five seasons as an assistant with the MIT men’s lacrosse program. His sister Anne, a former Hockomock League MVP, has been the head coach at MIT for a decade. His other sister Marta was a two-time HockomockSports Player of the Year for girls lacrosse in 2013 and 2014, and was the first female athlete to win Player of the Year twice for any sport.

After graduating Franklin, Versprille continued his playing career at Springfield College, helping the Pride reach four consecutive NCAA Tournaments. He graduated in 2016 with a degree in sport management.
