2025 Hockomock League Boys Outdoor Track All Stars
Player of the Week: Cate Larson, Taunton Softball

By HockomockSports.com Staff
Taunton senior Cate Larson has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for June 10 through June 16. Larson is the 39th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year and 12th in the spring season.
Larson came through both at the plate and in the circle to lead Taunton to a win against Wachusett in the Div. 1 state title game at Worcester State’s Rockwood Field. The Georgetown University-commit struck out eight batters, including five of the game’s final seven outs, hit a homer, and drove in four runs in the final to lead the Tigers to a fifth straight championship.
“She’s done remarkable things,” said Taunton head coach Michelle Raposo. “As we know, she’s been behind another pitcher and she came this year and I said, ‘the mound is yours, you’re going to have it all season long,’ and she worked really hard all year. Stay humble, work hard, and show that you’re one of the best pitchers in the state.”
Larson capped off a dominant season with three strong pitching performances over the final three rounds of the tournament. She allowed just two hits (one in the first and one in the seventh) and struck out 11 to shut out Bridgewater-Raynham in the quarterfinal. In the Final Four against Bishop Feehan (the last team to beat Taunton in the state tournament – in 2019), Larson allowed just three hits and struck out another 11 batters to keep the Tigers in the game. After Ashlyn Hebert doubled to drive in the go-ahead in the sixth, Larson closed out the win to send Taunton back to the final.
In the state title game, Wachusett got off to a good start at the plate and led 2-0 and 4-2, thanks in part to a couple of unearned runs. Larson settled into her start and seemed to get stronger over the final few innings, recording five of her eight strikeouts in the final three innings. She also starred at the plate, ripping a solo homer inside the foul pole in left to tie the game at 2-2. Larson drove in the go-ahead run with a groundout in the fifth and added a dagger, two-run double to center to cap off a five-run inning that broke the game open. Larson closed out the final with her eighth strikeout of the night.

Player of the Week: Alex Lutfy, King Philip Baseball

By HockomockSports.com Staff
King Philip senior Alex Lutfy has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for June 2 through June 9. Lutfy is the 38th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year and 11th in the spring season.
Lutfy delivered the biggest moment of KP’s season so far when he came up with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh in a tie game against rival Franklin. He hit a line drive to deep left, bringing in the game-winning run to send the Warriors to a third Final Four in the past four seasons.
“Alex has been a consistent bat for us throughout the season,” said King Philip head coach Jeff Plympton. “He’s really stepped up for us this postseason, leading the team in hits. We have all the confidence in him to come through in big situations which he showed us against Franklin for the walk off.”
The team’s second-leading hitter during the regular season (0.288), Lutfy has delivered during KP’s playoff run. In the opener against Medford, Lutfy reached base twice (walk and single) and scored a pair of runs in a 9-0 win. Against North Andover in the Sweet Sixteen, Lutfy drove in a pair with a single, sparking a big inning that led to a 9-2 win.
In the quarterfinal, played in front of a massive crowd at Lombard Field, Lutfy went 3-for-4, finishing with three of his team’s four hits. He singled in the fourth and again in the sixth before pinch runner Conor Alvezi stole a pair of bases and was stranded at third. In the seventh, Leo Dowling singled with one out and intentional walks to Drew Herlin and Aiden Astorino loaded the bases for Lutfy. He went with a pitch and drove it to the warning track, just out of the reach of the left fielder, to bring in the winning run and keep KP’s tournament run alive.
