2014 HockomockSports Girls Basketball Awards

Karlie O'Driscoll

Sharon senior Karlie O’Driscoll has been named the HockomockSports.com Girls Basketball Player of the Year for the 2013-2014 season, the third season the award has been given.  The Eagles captain also was named the Hockomock MVP by the league’s coaches after leading the Hock in scoring at 17 points per game. O’Driscoll also led the Eagles with eight rebounds, three assists, five steals and three blocks per game.

“Her overall game on both ends of the floor was amazingly consistent all season, despite some of the injury struggles that plagued Sharon during the middle of the season,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry. “She was one of the favorites for this award coming into the season and didn’t disappoint.”

O’Driscoll helped lead Sharon to the Davenport division title and on a run to the Division 2 South sectional final at UMass-Boston. According to the school, it is believed to be the furthest that any Sharon girls’ team has made it in the MIAA tournament. She will be attending Caldwell College (N.J.) next season.

Oliver Ames coach Laney Clement-Holbrook, whose team played O’Driscoll two times each regular season and lost to Sharon in the second round of the D2 playoffs this season, said, “Karlie was a tough defensive assignment because over the course of her four years as a varsity player she developed as both an outside threat as well as being able to take you off the dribble and get to the rim.”

Sharon coach Kate Horsmann said of her star player, “She is naturally strong and deceptively fast. She didn’t really grow until after her freshman year, so as one of the smaller girls in her class, she developed strong perimeter skills on her travel team. Once she grew and added some post moves, she became one of the most versatile players in the Hock.”

Horsmann added, “She is a ‘team before self’ player who only cares about one thing when she plays and that’s winning the game. Personal stats have never been a concern to her, which makes her easy to coach.”

Maher becomes the first Kelley-Rex Division player to win the award.

Maher averaged 9.5 points per game, second most for the Hornets and was named a Hockomock League All-Star by the coaches. Maher helped push the Hornets into the second round of the D1 South tournament after a win over North Quincy.

Tracy Pisani

Franklin junior Tracy Pisani has been named the HockomockSports.com Girls Basketball Underclassman of the Year for the 2013-2014 season, the third season the award has been given.

Pisani becomes the second player to win this award (and first guard) after Stoughton’s Nicole Daniels won the award each of the past two seasons.

Pisani, along with her twin sister Julianne, was one of the main factors in Franklin’s strong defense and regularly had the assignment to guard the top perimeter player on opposing teams, such as Foxboro’s Katherine Tamulionis or North Attleboro’s Danielle Perron.

“Pisani caused havoc in opposition offenses with her work in the passing lanes and ability to stay in front of even the quickest guards,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry.

Honorable Mentions: Emily Houle (Attleboro), Amanda Johnson (King Philip)

Coach of the Year – Kate Horsemann, Sharon
Sharon coach Kate Horsmann has been named the HockomockSports.com Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year for the 2013-2014 season. It is the third consecutive year that a Davenport division coach has been named Coach of the Year following Stoughton’s Janet Sullivan and Oliver Ames’ Laney Clement-Holbrook.

Despite serious injury issues that cost the Eagles (15-9) as many as four of their starters at various points during the season, Horsmann led Sharon to its first division title in 37 years and a run to the Division 2 South sectional final.

Senior forward Karlie O’Driscoll said of her coach, “She has taught me so much during my high school career not just as a player but as a person. She is an amazing woman and an amazing coach.”

Honorable Mentions: John Del Bonis (North Attleboro), Martin Crowley (King Philip)
