Kat Tamulionis

Foxboro senior Katherine Tamulionis has been named the 2015 HockomockSports.com Girls Basketball Player of the Year, the fourth player in the site’s history and first Warrior to earn this honor. The Foxboro captain was also named the Hockomock MVP by the league’s coaches after leading the Warriors to their first Davenport Division title and first league title since 2003.

“Kat was one of the most consistent players over the course of the season,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry. “Even on nights when she didn’t seem to have her best game, she could score 20 points, but it was about more than just scoring. Kat had the ball in her hands on every possession and had the pressure of being the top player every night…and every night she was.”

Tamulionis, who is committed to run track and play basketball at Merrimack College next year, averaged 16 points per game, which was among the best in the league. She also averaged 4.1 assists per game, 2.2 steals and shot 78 percent from the free throw line while leading the young Warriors on a run to the D2 South final and an overall record of 21-3. The three losses were by a combined 15 points.

Foxboro coach Lisa Downs said, “She puts the team on her back. Everybody is going to be keying on Kat and she was drawing two or three defenders at a time, which means it’s going to open things up for her teammates.”

Tamulionis finished her career with 967 points in her three years on varsity, but Downs credited the senior for not making the 1,000-point milestone a priority. Downs noted, “Team comes first with her and she’s such a good senior and I’m going to miss her immensely.”

Canton coach Jimmy Choquette, whose team faced Tamulionis twice this season, said, “She’s an amazing leader that has helped her team win throughout the entire year, despite being the number one target for opposing coaches and players to try and stop.”

He added, “Kat is a complete player. She can score shooting outside, getting to the basket, in transition and from the foul line…Kat has really defined Foxboro basketball and the Hockomock League over the last few years and this year she played at an all-time high.”

Tamulionis was formerly named HockomockSports.com Underclassman of the Year as a sophomore and is the first girls’ basketball player (and only second player in any sport) to earn both the Underclassman and Player of the Year honor. She is also the third player in four years from the Davenport Division, following Candace Steadman of Oliver Ames (2012) and Karlie O’Driscoll of Sharon (2014).

Honorable Mentions: Melissa Beaupre (North Attleboro), Jillian Spolidoro (Franklin), Emily Houle (Attleboro)

Sarah Deyo

Attleboro sophomore Sarah Deyo has been named the 2015 HockomockSports.com Girls Basketball Underclassman of the Year, the third season that this award has been given to the top freshman or sophomore in the league. Deyo is the second straight Kelley-Rex Division player to win the award following Caroline Maher of Mansfield.

Deyo averaged 17 points per game and regularly pulled in double digit rebounds, while being a strong defensive presence on the block. The forward helped Attleboro return to the playoffs for a third straight season and earn 14 wins.

“Sarah had a strong freshman season, but she really emerged as a threat on both ends of the floor this year,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry. “As a forward that has the height to score in the paint and on the glass and the range to win our three-point contest, she is fast becoming an elite scorer.”

First-year Attleboro coach Rick Patch said after Deyo’s 23-point, eight-rebound, and four-block performance against King Philip, “We tell her that she’s unguardable. She can post up, she can take her girl outside, and she’s a double team matchup wherever she goes and other kids are going to benefit because of that.”

The 2015 HockomockSports.com Player of the Year Kat Tamulionis was the first winner of this award.

Jackie Carchedi

Mansfield junior guard Jackie Carchedi has been named the 2015 HockomockSports.com Girls Basketball Defensive Player of the Year. Carchedi is the third player to earn this honor in the four seasons it has been awarded.

Carchedi was regularly tasked with guarding the top scorer that Mansfield faced every night and used her athleticism to stifle the opposition either on the ball or as constant threat in the passing lanes in a zone.

“Jackie made big plays every night on the defensive end,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry, “and helped Mansfield transition from a team that could score with anyone into one of the top defensive teams in the league.”

Mansfield coach Mike Redding said, “Jackie’s a great player, but she takes a lot of pride in her
defense. She has great feet and very good anticipation which may come from her soccer background where she also excels on defense. She will be a great leader for us next year as a team captain as well.”

Carchedi follows Franklin guard Tracey Pisani as the second straight Kelley-Rex Division winner of this award. Stoughton center Nicole Daniels won the award each of the first two seasons that it was handed out.

Coach of the Year – Lisa Downs, Foxboro
Lisa DownsFoxboro head coach Lisa Downs has been named the 2015 HockomockSports.com Girls Basketball Coach of the Year. It is the fourth season in a row that a Davenport Division coach has been chosen for this honor following Stoughton’s Janet Sullivan, Oliver Ames’ Elaine Clement-Holbrook, and Sharon’s Kate Horsmann.

Downs led the Warriors to the program’s first Davenport Division title and the first league title since 2003. Foxboro finished the regular season at 18-2 with its two losses to Mansfield and Franklin by a combined five points.

The Warriors would reach the Div. 2 South final, despite missing injured All-Star guard Kristen Bortolotti for the playoffs, before falling to eventual state champion Duxbury.

“Foxboro came into the season with high expectations in the league, but Lisa helped push the Warriors to an even higher level,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry. “Downs gave the Warriors a style that few teams could match and utilized the team’s athleticism to make them one of the best in Div. 2.”

Honorable Mentions: Derek Herber (North Attleboro), Mike Redding (Mansfield), John Leighton (Franklin)
