2022 HockomockSports Girls Lacrosse Awards

Foxboro junior midfielder Paige Curran has been named the 2022 HockomockSports.com Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year. It’s the first time the award has been given out since the 2019 season. Curran was one of the top scorers in the league this spring and led the Warriors to a 10th straight Davenport division title and a spot in the Div. 3 quarterfinals.

“Paige was not only one of the best playmakers in the league but one of its top all-around performers,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry. “She came through in some of the biggest moments and was a player that Foxboro could always lean on. Paige was prolific in front of goal but could also be counted on to force a critical turnover or make the right pass to get her team out of pressure.”

Curran, a Stonehill College commit, was second in the league in scoring during the regular season, surpassing both the 100-point and 100-goal marks for her career. She finished the season with 79 goals and 36 assists, adding 15 total points during Foxboro’s playoff run and bringing the Warriors within a goal of a first-ever berth in the D3 Final Four. She was selected as an all-star by the Hockomock League coaches and a second team Eastern Mass. all-star.

“Paige has been crucial this year on both ends of the field,” said second-year Foxboro coach Kathleen McCullough. “Her composure and experience have been such an asset to our team and has been a great leader for our younger players. Paige had a standout year in terms of finding the back of the net. She’s a playmaker and selfless teammate. Looking forward to having her back for 2023!”

Curran is the second Foxboro player to receive this honor, following Sophia DiCenso in 2018, and only the third junior to be named Player of the Year (DiCenso and Franklin’s Marta Versprille). She is also the third Davenport division player to be Player of the Year (Sharon’s Alex Rabb in 2017).

Honorable Mentions – Kate O’Rourke (Franklin), Aislinn Bennett (Milford), Emily McCabe (Canton)

Makenzie will be a player for KP to count on for the next few years.”

Honorable Mention – Val Beigel (Foxboro), Cali Melo (Taunton), Devan Spinale (Canton)

Coach of the Year – Casey Bradley, Canton

Coach of the Year

Casey Bradley
Casey Bradley

Canton head coach Casey Bradley has been named the 2022 HockomockSports.com Girls Lacrosse Coach of the Year. It is the first season the award has been given out since 2019. In her first year as coach, Bradley led the Bulldogs to 14 wins and came within one game of winning a first league title since 2011.

Bradley returned to her alma mater this spring and led the Bulldogs to nearly three times as many wins as they had in 2021, and as many as the past three seasons combined. It was their first winning season since 2014. Canton won its opening six games of the season and its only league losses this year were to Franklin, King Philip, and Foxboro. The Bulldogs became adept at winning close games, three times winning by one goal, once by two goals, and once by three. Those close victories helped Canton book a return to the postseason for the first time since 2016.

Defense became a strength for Canton, as the Bulldogs allowed only eight goals per game and only five times allowed teams to reach double digits.

“Casey came in and turned a talented team into one that could compete against the league’s best,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry. “In her first year, she pushed Foxboro to the final game of the regular season to decide the league title. Casey helped the team become more solid at the back, more secure in possession, and more dangerous in transition and it paid off with an impressive season.

Bradley is just the fifth different coach to win the award in the eight years that it has been given out and the third from the Davenport division. Franklin coach Kristin Igoe Guarino has won it four times (2013, 2014, 2017, and 2019), King Philip coach Kourtnie Wilder (2018), Sharon coach Colleen Manning (2016), and Foxboro coach Brittany Sherry (2015) have each won it once.

Honorable Mention – Kacey Abbriano (Milford), Kristin Igoe Guarino (Franklin), Kathleen McCullough (Foxboro), Kourtnie Wilder (King Philip)
