2025 HockomockSports Boys Hockey Awards
Canton senior Travis Thomas has been named the 2025 HockomockSports.com Boys Hockey Player of the Year after a tremendous individual season that helped the Bulldogs win another Davenport division title and make a run to the Division 2 state championship game. Thomas was also selected as the Davenport division MVP by the league’s coaches.

Thomas was not only one of the top players in the Hockomock League but also across the entire state. He spearheaded one of the most dangerous offenses on Canton’s top line and finished the season with 26 goals and 27 assists, consistently coming through with clutch goals and plays throughout the regular season and the state tournament.

“Time after time, Travis delivered when Canton needed it most, including during its state tournament run,” said HockomockSports Editor Ryan Lanigan. “Not only was he one of the most talented goal scorers out there, he was a true playmaker. He made a ton of unselfish plays throughout the year and made players around him better. That’s the true sign of a great player.”

On top of his dominant regular season (20 goals, 23 assists) which ended with the second most points in the Hock (43), Thomas went on to score six goals and add four helpers during Canton’s state tournament run, which culminated in a trip to the TD Garden for the D2 final.

“From start to finish, Travis was our best player this season and arguably one of the best hockey players in the state,” said Canton head coach Brian Shuman. “If one word could sum up Travis’ season, it would be dominant. He is incredibly difficult to defend, and his speed, strength, and puck skills allowed him to score or set his teammates up with over half of our goals this year.”

Thomas is the fifth Canton player to earn this honor joining Johnny Hagan (2020), Ryan Nolte (2018, 2019) Jackson Maffeo (2017, 2016), and Brian Brooks (2013). Other previous winners include Franklin’s Ben Paterson (2024), Dylan Marchand (2022), and Ryan Spillane (2015) as well as Oliver Ames’ Tyler Provost (2014).

Honorable Mention: Carter Balducci (Franklin), Thomas Gormley (Mansfield)

This season, he posted a 14-6 record with a 2.81 goals against average and a 90.3% save percentage while leading Taunton to its best finish in the Hock since joining over a decade ago. “Cam has had a stellar career,” said Taunton head coach Kris Metea. “He wore the Tiger jersey with pride and came with a solid work ethic. His success is a direct reflection of his commitment and sacrifice. I will miss him in the net and in the locker room. He gave future goalies a role model to embody going forward.”

He finished the season with nine goals and 14 assists and was one of the league’s top scoring defensemen. He was selected as an all-star by the league’s coaches. Mansfield coach Mark O’Brien said, “He earned the Hornet Leadership award this season. He worked hard this season to distribute the puck more. His points were down, but everyone else’s points were up in large part by the impact he had on the ice. He truly loves the game and when you need a big play, he’s always right there to give you one.”

Teddy Shuman – Canton

Teddy Shuman – Canton

Canton junior Teddy Shuman was a rock on the blue line for the Davenport division champion Bulldogs, who made yet another run to the Division 2 state championship. Shuman was a big reason why Canton allowed just 30 goals against all season long in 26 games played and he had a major impact on the offensive end. He registered 23 assists, just one of five Hockomock skaters to get 20 or more helpers and the only defenseman to do so. A team captain as a junior, his leadership both on and off the ice was crucial for a Canton team that integrated a good amount of younger players. He also added six goals including three in the state tournament. “Teddy embodied our team’s defensive dominance and high offensive potency,” said Canton head coach Brian Shuman. “He is a tough, physical defender who excels at breaking the puck out of our zone, but can also generate all kinds of offensive opportunities through his vision and playmaking abilities. Teddy was called on to play big minutes in the biggest of games, and he played his best when it mattered most.”

He was also selected as the HockomockSports Player of the Year (above) and the Davenport division MVP. “While most offensively gifted players take pride in only goal scoring, Travis also was a force defensively,” said Canton head coach Brian Shuman. “When he was on the ice, he was often the first player to pressure opposing players and force turnovers. He epitomizes what we want in a hockey player in our program.”

Bianculli was a dynamic playmaker from the blue line with the ability to carry the puck the length of the ice. He scored four times and dished out 12 assists for the Warriors, among the team’s leaders in scoring. He was selected as an all-star by the Hockomock League coaches. King Philip coach Toby Carlow said, “Sonny is a steady two-way defenseman who can control the pace of play. He plays in all situations and gives us a chance to win every night. He was named the HockomockSports Underclassman of the Year (below) after registering 22 goals and 19 assists. “To say that Ryan improved over the course of the season is an understatement,” said Canton head coach Brian Shuman. “He emerged as one of the most prolific goal scorers in our league. Most of Ryan’s 22 goals came in February and March, when we needed him the most, and he certainly delivered. He was an offensive threat as a scorer and passer every time he touched the ice.”

Joey RyanJoey Ryan – Canton – Forward

In his first season skating on Canton’s top line, Ryan became a reliable option and won a ton of key faceoffs that directly led to the Bulldogs’ success. His addition to the top line alongside Travis Thomas and Ryan Elrick gave Canton one of the most complete and dangerous lines in the region. He finished the season with 14 goals and was among the leaders in the league with 35 assists. “It’s a bit ironic to call a player with almost 50 points the quiet catalyst of the team, but Joey was exactly that for us this season,” said Canton head coach Brian Shuman. “We averaged just over two goals scored per game before Joey was called on to center our top line, and once he assumed this role, our team featured one of the most explosive offenses and top lines in the state. Joey’s selfless play made his linemates and teammates better in the offensive zone and in the defensive zone as well, where Joey excelled all season.”

Jameson VallarelliJameson Vallarelli – Taunton – Forward
Taunton sophomore forward James Vallarelli was one of the league’s top scorers this season, as the Tigers won 16 games, reached the playoffs for the third straight season, and finished tied for second in the Kelley-Rex division, which is their best league campaign since joining the Hockomock. Vallarelli was selected as an all-star by the Hockomock League coaches. Taunton coach Kris Metea said, “Jamie works incredibly hard all of the time and lets his work ethic and success speak for him. He is a team player and a great locker room kid that has the ability to build others up. His motor, combined with his skill, made him dangerous everywhere on the ice. He has a bright future for years to come.”
