2014 HockomockSports Volleyball Awards

Canton senior Erin Proctor has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Volleyball Player of the Year for the 2014. This is the second straight year a Canton player has won the award. Proctor was also selected as the Hockomock League MVP.

Proctor helped guide the Bulldogs to a perfect 16-0 league record, an 18-1 regular season record and a trip to the D2 Central Semifinals. Proctor was a main reason the Bulldogs clinched their eighth straight league title, including their fifth straight Davenport title.

As setter, she led the Bulldogs with 431 assists, which was second in the Hockomock League and picked up her 1,000th career assist during the season. She added a career-best 41 aces – just one behind the team high – and also had a personal best 71 kills on the season with just 14 errors.

“Erin is a unique high school athlete,” Canton head coach Pat Cawley said. “She plays the game because she loves it – not for stats or notoriety. Erin runs the offense with poise and confidence, reading the opponent’s defenses and making quick decisions. Her athleticism enables her to make plays seldom seen at the high school level. She is a great teammate and the hardest worker on the floor. Erin is a huge reason for the recent success of CHS volleyball!”

Proctor notched her 1,000 assist – a feat comparable to 1,000 points in basketball – in a match against Quincy in which she picked up 31 assists, the second highest total for a match this season.
