Sydney Phillips

King Philip junior Sydney Phillips has been selected as the 2016 HockomockSports.com Volleyball Player of the Year. The outside hitter led the Warriors to a Kelley-Rex division title and to a second straight spot in the Div. 1 Central-West semifinal.

Phillips, who was also voted the Hockomock MVP by the league’s coaches, led KP with 327 kills on the season. She was more than just a big hitter, adding 70 aces, 35 digs, seven blocks, and 224 service points. Her all-around game lifted the Warriors to an overall record of 19-3, including 15-1 in the league.

“Sydney emerged as our go to outside hitter this year,” said King Philip coach Kristen Geuss. “She is a smart player who can mix things up and find the holes.  She has the ability to hit down the line as well as cross court and finishes the point…Only a junior, we expect her to be even more impactful next year.”

HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry said, “Sydney was the best player on the best team in the league this season and deserving of the accolades that she is receiving. She showed in the playoffs, against very strong competition, the range of her talents from big hitting to strong serving and defense.”

Phillips is the first King Philip player to be selected as Player of the Year in the four years that the award has been given out. The previous three winners, Avery Devoe, Erin Proctor, and Elizabeth Hamilton, have all been from Canton.
