CHARITY

HockomockSports.com will be donating all proceeds from the 2016 Soccer Charity Event to The Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute on behalf of Taunton High junior Marc deSousa.

Many in the Hockomock League know Marc after he emerged as a top goalie in the league during his sophomore season with the Tigers. Heading into the 2016 season, Marc believed he had a concussion during summer league. After a CAT scan, doctors instead discovered a brain tumor, forcing Marc to the sideline for the season.

In a blink of an eye, Marc and his family had their lives turned upside down. Over the summer, Marc had brain surgery that removed 80% of the tumor. The 20% that was inoperable at the time meant that he would have to undergo a couple of rounds of chemo to attempt to shrink or eliminate the tumor. Marc, an honor student, has not only had to miss time on the pitch but also time in the classroom.

In late October, Marc underwent another surgery aimed to remove the rest of the tumor.

The Jimmy Fund solely supports Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, raising funds for adult and pediatric cancer care and research to improve the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world.
