Hockomock Schedule & Scoreboard – 05/14/14

Here are today’s Hockomock games. 

Baseball
Attleboro, 3 @ Taunton, 10 – Final – Taunton’s Luke Figueira tossed a complete game and struck out 10 and helped his cause at the play with three hits and two RBI. Sam Moor picked up two hits, two RBI and scored two runs and Dylan Poillucci and Jared Jored each had had two hits. For Attleboro, Tom Burns had two hits and two RBI and Matt Elliot had two hits, a run scored and an RBI.

Canton, 7 @ Foxboro 1 – Final – Canton sophomore Kevin Powers pitched a complete game for the win. Powers gave up one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts and also helped his cause out at the plate with a two RBI triple. Pat Vartanian was 3-3 at the plate with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored. Joe Bires picked up his first varsity hit, going 2-2 with a double, walk, run scored and RBI. Griffin Jerrier, Joe Peccia and Kevin O’Brien all went 2-4.

King Philip, 2 @ Franklin, 5 – Final – Zane Byrne had a terrific game on the mound for the Panthers, pitching a complete game one hitter with six strikeouts and no earned runs. Anthony Chaiton was 2-4 at the plate and, with the game tied 2-2, had a two-out bases-loaded double that cleared the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning. Drew Inglesi also had a solid day at the plate, going 3-4 with a double and a run scored.

Mansfield, 2 @ North Attleboro, 1 – Final – Both Mansfield’s Jeff Perillo and North Attleboro’s Justin Gallagher pitched complete games and kept the game scoreless through five innings a play. Both teams scored a run in the sixth inning but Mansfield tacked on the winning run in the top of the seventh inning.

Milford, 1 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final – Milford pitcher Garrett Handley went the distance for the win in a complete-game shutout effort, allowing just one hit with eight strikeouts and just three walks. Stoughton’s Michael Gallagher also had a strong day on the bump, going five innings, allowing just one hit and striking out nine, giving up an unearned run. The Scarlet Hawks scored on consecutive errors from the Black Knights.
 
Oliver Ames, 11 @ Sharon, 2 – Final

Softball
Attleboro, 0 @ Taunton, 11 – Final – Taunton’s Jesse Aleixo (4 IP) and Aimee Kistner (3 IP) combined for the shutout, each surrendering just one hit with Kistner striking out four and going 3-4 with two home runs and six RBI at the plate. MacKenzie Navarro was 3-4 with a double and a triple and three runs scored and both Jordan Wade and Kailey March went 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Meghan Navarro went 2-4 with an RBI for the Tigers.

Canton, 1 @ Foxboro, 14 – Final (5 innings) 

King Philip, 4 @ Franklin, 1 – Final –  KP’s Kali Magane fanned 14 batters and allowed just three hits and helped her cause at the plate, going 1-2 with an RBI. Shannon Jones went 2-4 with an RBI and Bri Sebio was 2-3 with two RBI for the Warriors. Franklin’s Sabrina LoMonaco  was 2-3 and Olivia DiGiacomo had the lone RBI for the Panthers. Lilly Criscione struck out five and allowed just two earned runs in the loss.

North Attleboro, 5 @ Mansfield, 0 – Final – Meg Colleran tossed another no-hitter, striking out eight, to help the Rocketeers bounce back from two straight losses and issued just one walk. Mycala Moody, McKenzie Sherman and Marissa Gifford each picked up two hits each. Mansfield’s Maddie Letendre notched 13 strikeouts in the circle. 

Stoughton, 1 @ Milford, 9 – Final – Freshman Maggie Farrell was 3-3 with three doubles and three RBI, Sam Bonvino was 3-4 with two runs scored, Leah Murray was 2-3 with two RBI and Allie Piergustavo went 2-4 with two RBI for the Scarlet Hawks. Jenny Levine picked up the win, allowing four hits in a complete game effort with seven strikeouts. Stoughton’s Emily Cramer and Katie Cellucci each had two hits.

Sharon, 1 @ Oliver Ames, 4 – Final – Oliver Ames clinched a playoff berth behind a complete game effort from Mattea Sarnecki, who struck out seven without surrendering an earned run in the circle. On Senior Day, senior Erin Lynch was 2-3 with a two RBI triple, a stolen base and run scored. Seniors Nicole Cosgrove also added an RBI, Rachyl Mosley had a strong game defensively at third base and scored a run and Gillie D’Antonio was 1-3 at the plate. Sophomore Missy Krim was 2-2 with an RBI and two stolen bases.

Boys Lacrosse
King Philip, 18 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final – The Warriors notched their first shutout of the year and had multiple players appear on the score sheet. Aidan Fitzpatrick recorded his first goal of the season and added an assist, freshman Zach D’Amico scored his first career goal, sophomore Harry Butler picked up an assist for his first varsity point and junior Nick Sajdak had a hat trick and one assist. Nick Roberts and Nick Bernier-Garzon each scored a goal for the Warriors and Brandon King (two goals, two assists), Johnny Piatelli (four goals, two assists) and Brett McEvoy (four goals, one assist) chipped in offensively too.

Milford, 3 @ Canton, 13 – Final – Senior Ben Lodge made 21 saves in net before switching out and going on to score a goal. Tommy Galvin registered six points with four goals and two assists, Ben O’Neill had a hat trick and three assists and Austin Zannino had two goals and three assists. Freshman Dan Dillion netted his first varsity goal and added two helpers and freshman goalie Matt Minichello made five saves in his first varsity action.

Franklin, 17 @ Mansfield, 6 – Final – Marta Versprille netted a game-high five goals for the Panthers and Maegan Schmauder and Emily Jeffries added four goals each. Franklin’s Nicole Ellin had an assist and three ground balls.

Boys Tennis
Taunton, 2 @ Attleboro 3 – Final – Brendan Briggs (Taunton) won 6-2, 6-3 at first singles, Amil Mahesh (Attleboro) won 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 at second singles and Pat McAndrews (Taunton) won 6-3, 6-2 at third singles. The team of Eric Carey and Brent Proulx (Attleboro) won 6-1, 6-2 at first doubles and Sagib Chardhery and Shawn Nguon (Attleboro) won 6-2, 6-1 at second doubles.

Foxboro, 3 @ Canton 2 – Final

Mansfield, 4 @ North Attleboro, 1 – Final – Eric Sun (Mansfield) won 6-0, 6-1 at first singles, Jake Cavicchi (Mansfield) won 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 at second singles and North Attleboro sophomore Mitchell Dyer won 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 at third singles. John Menz and Matt Medeiros (Mansfield) won 6-2, 6-4 at first singles and Tomek Nowakowski and Jackson Peters (Mansfield) won 6-2, 6-1 at second doubles.
