Canton HIGH SCHOOL
CLASS OF 2027

My name is John Flood, and I am a junior at Canton High School, where I am an energetic, outgoing, and hardworking student-athlete dedicated to leadership, teamwork, and personal growth. I have played sports my entire life and currently compete in golf, hockey, and lacrosse, all of which have shaped my work ethic, communication skills, and ability to support others both on and off the field.

Alongside athletics, I maintain a strong academic record with a 4.1 GPA while taking both Honors and AP courses.

One of the most meaningful parts of my development has come from my work at Kids Camp, a weeklong summer program run through St. Oscar Romero Church. Over the last few years, I have served as both a junior counselor and a head counselor, leading groups of eleven- and twelve-year-old campers.

Through this role, I learned that effective leadership depends not only on guiding others but also on listening to them. I helped my campers build skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and respect, and I regularly adjusted our daily plans based on their feedback.

By the end of each week, seeing the campers leave with new confidence and stronger life skills showed me the positive impact of patient and thoughtful leadership.

Team culture is extremely important to me as well. I believe the strongest teams are built not only during practices and competitions but also through shared experiences off the field.

I often help create team-bonding opportunities, such as hosting team dinners or inviting new teammates out to eat, because these moments help people connect, build trust, and feel included. This year, I made sure newer athletes were welcomed into our team traditions, which strengthened our chemistry and helped us compete with more unity.

My leadership also extends into athletics through my experience as a swing player in lacrosse. Working closely with less experienced teammates taught me patience, encouragement, and the importance of teaching through example.

Helping a freshman defenseman develop from struggling with basic skills to confidently playing his position showed me how mentorship can transform a player’s growth. By communicating calmly and positively, even during mistakes, I became someone my teammates could trust and depend on.

Beyond sports and volunteering, I stay involved in my school community through Student Council, the Make-A-Wish Club, and the Community Service Club. I also work as a host at Northern Spy Restaurant and volunteer annually at the Wampatuck Veterans Golf Tournament, where I help ensure the event runs smoothly.

My dedication has been recognized through opportunities such as attending the Matt Light Leadership Conference, earning JV Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Year, and consistently making the Honor Roll.

With my background in leadership, teamwork, service, and communication, I hope to represent Canton High School as a member of the LEAP Program. I am confident that I would bring positivity, responsibility, and a strong commitment to helping others grow, just as my coaches, mentors, and teammates have helped me grow.
