Nevaeh Young

Taunton HIGH SCHOOL
CLASS OF 2027

Hi, my name is Nevaeh Young, and I’m a junior at Taunton High School. I’m involved in both varsity cheer and track, and these activities have shaped my high school experience in ways I never expected.

Cheer has taught me not only how to lead with energy and enthusiasm, but also how to encourage others, both on and off the mat. It’s all about teamwork, supporting your teammates, and pushing each other to be better every day.

Being on the track team has shown me how much discipline and self-motivation are needed to succeed. Whether I’m sprinting down the track or cheering my teammates on, I’ve learned that leadership isn’t just about being in the spotlight; it’s about being dependable and setting an example through hard work and dedication.

Along with school and sports, I also work at the YMCA, which has been an eye-opening experience. At the Y, I interact with people of all ages, from kids in after-school programs to adults working out or attending events.

This job has given me a sense of responsibility that is hard to learn in a classroom. I’ve learned how to manage my time effectively, balance multiple priorities, and take on leadership roles even in small moments.

I’ve also seen how a positive attitude and a willingness to help others can create an environment where everyone feels supported and valued. Whether I’m supervising a class or assisting with a program, I always aim to be someone people can rely on.

In addition to my extracurricular activities, I’m also proud to be a member of the National Honor Society. NHS isn’t just about academic excellence; it’s about service and character.

Through NHS, I’ve had the chance to participate in community service projects that have taught me the importance of giving back. It’s one thing to do well in school, but it’s another to use your skills and knowledge to help others.

The combination of sports, work, and service has helped me build a strong foundation for leadership. I’ve learned that leadership is not just about being in charge or taking the lead in big moments; it’s about showing up, being consistent, and making the people around you feel heard and supported.

Whether I’m on the field, at work, or in the classroom, I try to lead by example and inspire those around me to do their best.

One of the main reasons I’m excited to apply for the Hockomock League LEAP Program is because I know I have so much more to learn about leadership. I want to continue building my skills by connecting with other student leaders, learning from mentors, and discovering new ways to lead with confidence and compassion.

I’m especially excited about the opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone, gain new perspectives, and work alongside others who share my passion for making a positive difference.

In the future, I hope to continue developing my leadership abilities and use them to inspire others, whether it’s on the field, in my community, or eventually in my career.

The experiences I’ve had so far have taught me the value of hard work, responsibility, and teamwork, and I’m eager to take those lessons with me into the future. I truly believe that leadership is about lifting others up, and I’m committed to continuing my journey to become the best leader I can be.
