Canton junior Cam Guerschuny has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Jan. 18 through Jan. 24. Guerschuny is the 20th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year and the sixth in the winter season.
Guerschuny scored twice in both games last week, as Canton bounced back from its first loss of the season with a dominant win over Newburyport, a critical league win against King Philip, and an early-morning victory over Reading in the opening round of the Ed Burns Cup. Guerschuny’s four goals moved him into double digits for points this season.
“Coming off a tough loss to Bishop Feehan where scoring was hard to come by, Cam answered in the biggest week of the season with four goals across two games, leading us past two quality teams in Newburyport and KP,” said Canton head coach Brian Shuman. “Time and again this season, Cam has saved his best for the moments we needed him most. Alongside Gavin O’Toole and Brayden Dickie, he has helped form a line that has grown into a legitimate force and one that can go toe-to-toe with any top line in the state.”
Coming off a tough loss against Bishop Feehan, Canton made quick work of visiting Newburyport on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs scored twice in the first and third periods and netted six in the second for a convincing 10-2 win over the team sitting at No. 21 in the Div. 2 power rankings. Guerschuny had a pair of goals for the Bulldogs.
Three days later, Canton had a showdown with fellow league leader KP. Guerschuny got the Bulldogs off to the perfect start, scoring a pair of first-period goals to stake the hosts to a 2-0 lead. The first came from a face-off win by Gavin O’Toole and Guerschuny snapped a quick shot that gave the goalie no chance to react. Later in the first, Brayden Dickie drove to the end boards and cut a pass back to Guerschuny in the slot for a one-timer. KP rallied to tie it but Canton would pull out the win and the third line, including Guerschuny on the wing, gave the Bulldogs a spark the whole game.
