King Philip senior Hayden Patel has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for April 13 through April 19. Patel is the 30th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year and the third in the spring season.
Patel established a new program record for career assists while helping the Warriors go 2-1 on the week. He finished the week with 563 career assists, which broke the previous record of 542 held by Ryan Mahoney, and has played a key role in the Warriors getting off to a 5-3 start (already eclipsing the three wins that KP had in all of 2025).
“Hayden has been apart of this program for four years and has spent two of those years on varsity — I am hard on all of my players but especially Hayden with him being a setter and I was a former setter for this program,” said first-year KP head coach Cam Corey. “All of the years of boys volleyball at KP, we’ve had tremendous setters and it’s been his position to step into and make it his own the past two years. This year he has grown a lot being a leader on and off the court but setting the tone in the gym everyday! There has been a lot of changes to our offense this year with a much faster tempo and new hitters being thrown into the offense. As a setter all eyes are on you making the best right decision on every play. He has matured this year by taking it one ball at a time.
“This past week Hayden found his hitters early and knew when to go to what hitter. He is not afraid to keep it fast to all hitters or slow it down and make our hitters go and get it. As much as this is an individual acknowledgment for Hayden and the work he has put in this season, this is also a team acknowledgment as our passers have been able to give Hayden great balls in system and our hitters are getting available fast swinging away with no fear. We play our best volleyball when we play together!”
After recording 34 assists in a four-set win over Taunton, Patel had 22 assists and nine digs in a sweep of Norwood to kick off this week. He delivered a terrific all-around performance in a sweep of Hock rival Attleboro, finishing with 35 assists, two kills, and seven service points. The Warriors saw their five-match win streak (all at home) come to an end on the road at one-loss Nipmuc, but Patel recorded 22 more assists to set the new program record. He has 226 assists this season with only 22 errors.
