Oliver Ames senior Landon Sarney has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Oct. 19 through Oct. 25. Sarney is the eighth athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year.
Sarney won the boys race at the annual Hockomock Cross Country Championships held over the weekend at the Wrentham Development Center. The Northeastern University-commit finished in a time of 15:31.60, beating North Attleboro’s Anthony Malakidis (who finished second in back-to-back-years) to the line by a little over a second. Sarney helped OA win the Davenport division title for the sixth straight year and the team title at Hocks by 61 points.
“Landon has dominated the Hockomock League throughout the regular season, and at the Hockomock League Championships, secured the individual title, helping the boys team to a dominant victory,” said Oliver Ames head coach Kyle Sousa. ” Landon’s dedication and leadership has been crucial to the program, and his commitment and sacrifice have really shown on race day
Sarney got off to a great start to Saturday’s race, taking the lead from the opening gun and racing out to a seven second lead of Malakidis a little over midway. He ran the opening 3K in 9:30.5 and the final 2K in 6:01.10. Although Malakidis picked up six seconds on that closing 2K, Sarney’s lead never looked in danger and he was able to make a final push down the hill and to the line to secure the win. He improved his time by 36 seconds from his third-place finish last year. Sarney joins his brothers Ryan (2023) and Kyle (2021) as Hockomock champions. This season, Sarney has set course records at the Tigers’ home course of Borderland as well as at Foxboro and Mansfield, and is undefeated in Hockomock competition.
