Player of the Week: Lauren Raffetto, Canton Cross Country

Lauren Raffetto

Canton senior Lauren Raffetto has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Oct. 25 through Oct. 31. Raffetto is the eighth athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2026-27 school year.

Raffetto continued her impressive senior season with her second consecutive individual title at the annual Hockomock Cross-Country Championships held on Saturday morning at the Wrentham Development Center. With Raffetto and teammate Adileh Azar finishing in the top two spots, Canton ran away with a second straight team title. The Bulldogs scored 46 points, well ahead of Franklin’s 81.

“Lauren executed her race plan perfectly on Saturday, just like she’s done all season long,” said Canton head coach Brian Gotsell. “Going into the race, she knew she needed to lead and set the pace, and she did exactly that. I couldn’t be prouder of how she raced and I am thrilled to see her successfully defend her title and help the team claim back to back Hockomock championships. She truly is a special talent and will go down as one of the best distance runners in league history.

Dominant since the start of her Canton career, Raffetto went undefeated (20-0) in dual meets during her four years on varsity, and is believed to be the first to do so since the 1990’s. The Wake Forest-commit took fourth in her first two years at the Hockomock meet but has taken first by more than 30 seconds each of the last two seasons. This weekend, Raffetto finished in a time of 18:24.5, which is six seconds faster than her winning time from 2025. She was more than 32 seconds faster than Azar in second (who improved her time by 35 seconds after finishing fourth as a sophomore). This season she broke her own school record in the 5km at the Bay State Invite with a mark of 17:45.3, and also broke her own course record at Pequitside Farms with a time of 19:36.

Raffetto joins a group of talented runners who have won back-to-back individual titles at the Hockomock Championships over the last 15 years. The list includes Oliver Ames’ Katie Sobieraj (2022 and 2023), Sharon’s Daphne Theiler (2020 and 2021), Franklin’s Nicole Clermont (2015 and 2016), and King Philip’s Mike Griffin (2018 and 2019) and Owen Gonser (2012 and 2013).
