Stoughton seniors Julia Monaghan and Jake McSweeney have been selected as recipients of the 2026 Boston Bruins-MIAA Sportsmanship Award, presented each year to high school hockey players across the state.

Presented annually by the Boston Bruins and the MIAA, the award honors high school hockey players across the state who “exemplify a commitment to sportsmanship, teamwork and dedication both on and off the ice.” Recipients are chosen by league representatives based on their conduct, respect for opponents and officials, and ability to positively impact their teams and communities.

Monaghan, who represented the Hockomock League on the girls side, capped a standout career defined by leadership and versatility.

“Julia has been a four-year member of our team and served as a captain during this past season,” said head coach Chad Kelley. “Julia has been the consummate teammate and opponent throughout her time at Stoughton High School. She balances fierce competitiveness with a genuine love of playing, which is what educational athletics should be. She’s a model for others to emulate.”

McSweeney, selected as an independent representative, earned recognition from legendary head coach Dan Mark for both his production and discipline.

“Jake averaged only four penalties over his four-year career. This year, he only had two penalties,” said head coach Dan Mark. “He has been a two-year captain and provided excellent leadership and set a great example for his teammates. He has had an impressive career, scoring 50 goals and 27 assists, but his sportsmanship has been his most impressive accomplishment.”

Both were honored with other honorees during the second intermission of the Bruins’ March 19th game against the Winnipeg Jets.
