Girls Basketball

Franklin dominated the first and third quarters and rolled to a big win over the second place team in the Kelley-Rex. The Panthers opened the game on fire, taking the first quarter 24-7. Attleboro played nearly even in the second (10-8), but the Franklin stormed out of halftime with an 18-4 third to put the game out of reach. Franklin’s full-court press and interior defense proved too much, as the Panthers have allowed only three teams in 11 games to score more than 33 points in a game. Katie Peterson led all scorers with 15 points, and added two blocks and three steals. Stefany Padula chipped in with 10 points, eight of them in the first quarter. Brigid Earley scored seven and had three blocks and Olivia Quinn scored six points. Attleboro was led by Meghan Gordon, who scored eight points despite being under the weather. Rylie Camacho added five and Sarah Maher and Lily Routhier each scored four for the Bombardiers.

Mansfield, 45 vs. Fontbonne, 32 – FinalKara Santos scored 18 points and Mansfield held Fontbonne to 10 or fewer points in each quarter to pull out a non-league win in the rescheduled finale of the Hornets’ holiday tournament. Santos, who was named to the all-tournament team, scored six points apiece in the first and third quarters. Mansfield held a 13-7 lead after the first, extended it by a point in the second, and then pushed it to double digits in the third. The fourth quarter was a defensive stalemate, with both teams scoring seven points, as the Hornets closed out the win. Abby Wager had nine points for the Hornets, while Rose Maher knocked down a pair of threes for six points, and Bridget Hanley added five in the win.

Taunton, 52 @ New Bedford, 49 – FinalTaunton rallied in the final minute to pull out a non-league road win against the Whalers. Kameron St. Pierre led all scorers with 25 points. The junior guard knocked down three from beyond the arc and shot 8-of-9 from the line. The game was tied at 12 after one, with St. Pierre scoring eight points for the Tigers, including a pair of threes. New Bedford grabbed a three-point lead going into halftime, but the Tigers answered back with strong third quarter to go ahead by four. The Whalers battled back in the fourth, leading 47-46 in the final minute, but then Taunton closed on a 6-2 run to seal the win. Olivia Gannon had a big night for Taunton scoring 12 points and grabbing 15 boards. Jillian Doherty added 11 points in the win.
