Boys Basketball
Milford, 38 @ Attleboro, 61 – FinalAttleboro orchestrated a 14-0 run between the first and second quarters and never looked back to grab a big win over visiting Milford. Tied 9-9 early on, the Bombardiers staked a 16-9 claim by the end of the first and then outscored the Scarlet Hawks by nine in the second to build a 35-19 halftime lead. Senior Alvin Harrison scored a career-high 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the way for the Bombardiers. Senior Joe Francois-Annevil added 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists and senior Evan Houle chipped in with 11 points and five assists. Sophomore Jake Soares scored a team-high 11 points while freshman Andrew Rivera added eight points and four rebounds.

Mansfield, 51 @ Bishop Feehan, 41 – FinalMansfield senior Andrew Slaney hit three three-pointers in the fourth quarter and scored all 13 of his points in the final frame as the Hornets pulled away from the upset-minded Shamrocks. After a close first quarter (14-11), the Hornets limited the hosts to just two points in the second to stake a 27-13 lead by halftime. Feehan responded with a big quarter of its own, holding Mansfield to five points in the frame to make it a one-point game, 32-31, going into the fourth. Slaney hit back-to-back threes, Chris Hill (10 points) converted a putback, and Matt Hyland (16 points) hit two from the line to complete a 10-0 run over the first three minutes of the fourth. Feehan cut it to seven with three minutes left but Slaney sank another three to keep the Hornets ahead for good.

Boys Swimming
Franklin, 79 @ Attleboro, 86 – FinalFranklin had more first place finishes but Attleboro’s depth helped earn key points for a win over the Panthers. Matt Marcil was a double-winner in individual races while also adding a relay win to help Attleboro get the win. Marcil took first in both the 100 back (qualifying for sectionals) and anchored a sweep in the 100 fee (followed by Matt Brewster and Andrew Collins). Marcil was joined by Collins, Brewster, and Zach Dorrance to win the 200 free relay. Alex Harrop added a first place finish in the 100 fly.

Girls Swimming
Franklin, 95 @ Attleboro, 64 – FinalAttleboro freshman Zuri Ferguson broke a 30-year old program record, setting a new time of 5:16.44 in the 500 free, breaking the record by 2.28 seconds but the Bombardiers fell to a deep Franklin team. Ferguson also won the 50 free, qualifying for sectional in both events. Ella Lynch-Bartek took second in the 50 free and third in the 100 free, Caroline Lynch-Bartek placed third in the 50 free, and Sydney Dorval was third in the 100 fly. Ferguson, Lynch-Bartek, Lynch-Bartek, and Dorval teamed up to take second in both the 200 medley and 200 free relays. Abbi Rodriques and Natalia Kotnisz also won key points for the Bombardiers.

Thursday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 06/03/21

Baseball
Canton, 3 @ Oliver Ames, 5 – FinalOliver Ames scored all five of its runs in the first inning and that was enough as it held on for the win over Canton, completing the sweep of the Bulldogs to stay in a first place tie in the Davenport with North Attleboro. Ryan McKenney cleared the bases with a double and Jack Muir added an RBI triple to spark the Tigers in the opening inning. Max Tower added two hits in the win while Jadon Ricci (two hits) had a triple. Jack Richardson allowed just two earned runs in 4.2 innings of work to earn the win while Kosta Spiliakos earned the save with 2.1 scoreless innings in relief.

Franklin, 0 @ Mansfield, 2 – FinalMansfield scored back-to-back runs in the bottom of the fifth and the duo of Aaron Blinn and James Gilleran combined for a shutout as the Hornets handed Franklin its first loss of the season. Gilleran reached on an error and Liam Anastasia had a bunt single to put two runners on. Junior Colby Geddis followed with a single to bring in courtesy runner Andrew Slaney, and junior Anthony Sacchetti followed with an RBI single of his own to plate Anastasia. Blinn got the start for the Hornets, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Gilleran came on in relief to close it out, giving up just one hit in 3.2 innings of work, striking out four. Franklin starter Jacob Jette had just two unearned runs allowed on four hits and one walk, striking out four in 4.2 innings.










Softball
Oliver Ames, 4 @ Canton, 5 – FinalSophia Santos went the distance to pick up the win in her first start of the season. The junior struck out five to help the Bulldogs split the two-day series with OA and move into a tie with the Tigers in the Davenport. Liz Bickett sparked the offense for Canton, going 2-for-3 and driving in a pair. Audrey Koen went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Taylor Reynolds went 1-for-2 and played great defense in the win. OA rallied in the final two innings, putting the tying run on base in the seventh but Canton closed the game. Katie Melendy drove in Lexi Galsband in the sixth and the Tigers used back-to-back squeeze plays to score in the seventh.

Mansfield, 1 @ Franklin, 2 – FinalFranklin scored twice on three hits in the first inning and was able to hold off the Hornets to earn a split of the season series. Mansfield got its lone run in the top of the second. Molly Kucharski, Ashlyn Conley, and Nicole Kobasa had three straight singles and then a fielder’s choice by Abby DeCoste plated the run. Conley, who was 3-for-3 at the plate, was strong in the circle, despite picking up the loss. She allowed only one hit after the first inning.

Mansfield, 4 @ Franklin, 16 – Final

Boys Tennis
Canton, 5 @ Oliver Ames, 0 – FinalCanton went on the road and won all five matches in straight sets to knock off Oliver Ames, 5-0. In doubles action, Elias Jabbour and Jalen Townsend secured a 6-1, 6-3 win at first doubles while the team of Jad Antoun and Jorge Nebril didn’t drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at second doubles. Suraj Ramanathan was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at first singles, Minh Duong added a 6-4, 6-1 win at second singles, and Ethan Nguyen picked up a 6-3, 6-3 decision at third singles.

Franklin, 4 @ Mansfield, 1 – FinalBehind a pair of wins in both singles and doubles action, Franklin earned a 4-1 victory on the road over Mansfield. Senior Liam Marr had a strong outing at first singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win while junior Vayshnav Malhotra added a 6-1, 6-3 win at second singles. Senior Anish Gundimeda and junior Sameen Shaik battled to a 4-6, 7-6 (5), 10-6 win at first doubles while Thomas Broyles and Jay Gorgas added a 6-1, 6-2 verdict at second doubles.

Boys Outdoor Track
Canton, 46 @ Oliver Ames, 90 – FinalDeyontai Dennis won all four events he competed in and Jonathan Chery added his name to the record books once again but the Bulldogs fell on the road at OA. Dennis took first in the 400M hurdles (59.8), the 110M hurdles (15.6), the long jump (20’3″), and the triple jump (42’6.5″). Chery tied the school record with a first place finish in the 100M (10.8) while adding wins in the 200M (22.1) and the high jump (5’4″).

Girls Outdoor Track
Canton, 81 @ Oliver Ames, 55 – FinalCanton swept four events to earn their fourth win of the season on the road at OA. The Bulldogs took all three spots in each the 100M, the triple jump, the discus, and the 100M hurdles. Maddie Rousseau paved the way by setting a new school record in the 100M (12.4) with Talya Mendez-DeGraw (12.7) and Katie Oliver (13.1) rounding out the scoring. Rousseau was also first in the triple jump (34′), Leah Murphy was second (31’1.5″), and Oliver was third (30’3″). the Bulldogs also swept the discus (Angie Elias, 65’11”; Emma Massih, 65’10”; Katie Dever, 65’2″) and the 100M hurdles (Leah Murphy, 17.5; Kiley Hanlon, 19.7; Angie Elias, 20.4).
