Boys Basketball
Attleboro, 50 @ Canton, 53 – FinalCanton held a one-point lead at halftime (28-27) but used an 8-0 run to start the second half to create the separation it needed. The Bulldogs went up 51-41 with 5:29 to play, but Attleboro’s switch to a zone defense stalled Canton’s offense and got the Bombarders back into the game. Attleboro had a 9-2 run and had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer but the shot missed and Canton picked up its first win over Attleboro since 2013. Senior Tony Harris scored a game-high 18 points while hauling in 15 rebounds, senior Austin Maffie added 11 points and junior Devin Foster finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Attleboro junior Dom Victor had a team-high 16 points while sophomore Qualeem Charles had 12 points.

King Philip, 53 @ Milford, 47 – FinalMilford held the lead until the final minutes of the game, but King Philip took the lead late and earned the win on the road. Milford junior Brendan White dropped a career-high 20 points while senior Kayden Kelley had 15 points for the Hawks.

Oliver Ames, 64 @ Stoughton, 53 – FinalStoughton rallied at the end of the first half, using seven straight points from senior Greg Firmin (career-high 14 points) to take a 34-32 lead at halftime. But Oliver Ames switched to a 2-3 zone and took control of the game in the second half. OA senior Jack Spillane led all scorers with 24 points while junior Jake Erlich scored 13 points for the Tigers.

Taunton, 64 @ Sharon, 62 – FinalSharon overcame a 13-point deficit over the final 90 seconds and had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but came up just shy. Taunton jumped out to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter before taking a 34-25 lead into the locker room. The Tigers kept their lead in double-digits, 50-40, heading into the final quarter. Sharon outscored Taunton 22-12 in the final frame but the Tigers escaped with the win. Sophomore Dante Law netted a team-high 20 points for Taunton while junior Lou Vendrell scored a career-high 18 points. Sharon senior Malik Lorquet led all scorers with 22 points and 12 rebounds, Jimmy Fitzhenry added 14 points and Lester High had 11 points.

Girls Basketball
Canton, 39 @ Attleboro, 37 – FinalHannah Jerrier scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and Erin Devine added eight points, eight rebounds, three blocks, and three assists as Canton rallied in the final minute to open its season with a road victory. The Bulldogs trailed 37-36 with a minute left and scored to take the lead, adding a free throw in the final 20 seconds. Julia Hamilton added seven points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs. Attleboro was led by Sam Pierce’s 12 points, while Jordyn Lako scored 10 in the loss.

Foxboro, 43 @ Mansfield, 37 – FinalThe Warriors got 12 points from Grace Tamulionis and nine points from Lily Sykes (on a combined five three-pointers) to win the Hockomock opener for both teams in a battle of last season’s league champions. The Warriors took the lead with a 15-6 fourth-quarter run. The game was tied 37-37 with 2:00 remaining and Shannon Smally scored the go-ahead basket for Foxboro. Mansfield got 11 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks from Meg Hill and nine points on a trio of three-pointers from Ann Maher.

North Attleboro, 37 @ Franklin, 61 – FinalAli Brigham scored 16 points to lead Franklin to a win in the Hockomock League opener for both teams. Bea Bondhus added 15 points and freshman Elizabeth Wilson had 12 for the Panthers.

Milford, 56 @ King Philip, 64 – FinalShannon O’Connor scored a game-high 26 points to give new head coach Amy Siggens a win in her first game in charge. Faith Roy added 10 points and Faye Veilleux had nine for the Warriors. Siggens said it was a total team effort and highlighted KP turning the ball over only 10 times in the game. She added, “They just played so well together.” Milford was led by Kate Irwin with 22 points and Emily Piergustavo scored 16 in the loss.

Stoughton, 48 @ Oliver Ames, 55 – Final Oliver Ames held a comfortable 45-29 lead after three quarters, but the Knights rattled off a 17-4 run over the first five minutes of the final quarter to make it a three-point game. OA’s defense clamped down and allowed just two more points the rest of the way while Abby Reardon and Tori Harney hit key free throws to seal the win. Kayla Raymond scored 25 points and Caroline Flynn added 14 to lead Oliver Ames to a season-opening victory.

Sharon, 42 @ Taunton, 58 – FinalTaunton got 15 points from Hannah Moniz to open its season with a second straight win, exceeding the win total from last winter. Jaelyn Fernandez added 11 points, Mackenzie Handrahan had 10 points and seven boards, Alexa White had eight points and six steals, and Lily Patneaude and Kelsey White each had seven points in the victory. Emma Eberhardt scored 21 points and Kaitlyn Wallace added 16 for the Eagles.

Boys Basketball
Oliver Ames, 62 @ Attleboro, 49 – FinalOliver Ames built a 10 point lead by halftime and extended its lead to 17 in the third quarter to earn the road win. Attleboro battled back to cut the deficit to eight (48-40) entering the fourth quarter but Oliver Ames closed out the game with a 14-9 final quarter. Nick Welch scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Tigers while Jack Spillane added 15 points for OA.

Sharon, 49 @ Canton, 63 – FinalThe Bulldogs turn a close game at halftime (29-22) and built a 20-point lead in the third quarter. Sharon was able to cut it to 12 (46-34) entering the fourth quarter but Canton’s offense didn’t slow down with 19 points in the final quarter. Sophomore Devin Foster led the Bulldogs with a team-high 19 points while junior Austin Maffie netted 17 points and hauled in 7 rebounds. Sharon’s Malik Lorquet had 17 points and eight rebounds while Ricardo Ripley added 15 points and three steals.

Foxboro, 52 @ Milford, 65 – FinalMilford turned a one-point deficit at halftime into a lead behind 25 points in the third quarter. Foxboro got within six at just under six to play but couldn’t close the gap. Shane Cosquete scored a career-high 19 points to lead the Scarlet Hawks while Zack Tamagni added 18 points and Kayden Kelley had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Taunton, 51 @ King Philip, 70 – Final

Stoughton, 54 @ North Attleboro, 68 – FinalNorth Attleboro was able to break the press and race out to a 22-6 lead through the first eight minutes. Stoughton’s Cam Andrews scored 12 of his game-high 21 points in the second quarter to get the Black Knights within 10 (32-22) at the break. Both offenses poured it on in the third quarter, totaling 55 points between the two teams. North Attleboro’s Chad Peterson scored eight of his 16 points in the final quarter, including a pair of key three pointers to help the Rocketeers ice the game. Jonny Friberg had a team-high 17 points for North while Brent Doherty added 13 points. The Rocketeers went 20/24 from the free throw line in the win.

Girls Basketball
Attleboro, 48 @ Oliver Ames, 60 – FinalOliver Ames used a dominant second half, outscoring the Bombardiers 34-19, to score a key division win over Attleboro. “It was a great defensive effort for us,” OA head coach Laney Clement-Holbrook said. Sadie Homer scored a career high 24 points to lead the Tigers while, Kayla Raymond had 12 points, Niyera Mitchell had eight points, 10 rebounds and five blocks and Abby Reardon chipped in with nine points.

Sharon, 54 @ Canton, 60 – FinalCanton used a 23-11 fourth quarter to pull out the victory. Hannah Jerrier scored 20 points (12 in the fourth quarter alone) and pulled down 14 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Emma Murphy chipped in with 11 points and Erin Devine had 10 for Canton. Emma Eberhardt scored 22 points in the loss and the Eagles also got 10 points apiece from Shira Stoller (six assists and seven rebounds) and Veronica and Kaitlyn Wallace.

Mansfield, 43 @ Franklin, 50 – FinalBea Bondhus scored a game-high 13 points for the Panthers, 10 in the second half, to help Franklin hand Mansfield its first league loss of the season. Carli Koffinke scored 12 points and Ali Brigham had 11 for the Panthers. The Hornets were led by Ann Maher’s 12 points, while Maggie Danehy scored nine and Jen Peel added eight (seven in the first quarter).

King Philip, 61 @ Taunton, 34 – FinalSophomores Shannon O’Connor and Julia Leroux each scored 14 points to lead the Warriors and freshman Faith Roy added 10. Hannah Moniz was the top scorer for Taunton with 11 points.

Attleboro, 64 vs. Durfee, 53 – FinalAttleboro pulled away in the second half after holding just a two point lead (28-26) at halftime. Jake Dunkley led the Bombardiers with 21 points while senior Berlyns Abraham added 12 points and Lucas Boucicaut had 10 points and five assists. Andrew Milliken chipped in with nine points and Nate Douglas had eight points.

Canton, 67 vs. Archbishop Williams, 38 – FinalJunior Tony Harris grabbed a double-double as Canton ran away with a big win over Archies to begin 2017. Harris had 13 points and 15 rebounds to pace the Bulldogs while sophomore Devin Foster scored 15 points and junior Austin Maffie finished with 11 points.

Franklin, 57 @ Catholic Memorial, 58 – Final

North Attleboro, 70 @ King Philip, 64 – FinalNorth Attleboro had a strong first half by King Philip chipped away to tie the game in the second half. North Attleboro was able take a 54-52 lead into the fourth quarter and then hold onto a 66-64 lead with 1:28 to play. Jonny Friberg led the Rocketeers with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Tom Reynolds added a career-high 16 points. Seniors Brent Doherty (13) and Kyle McCarthy (12) combined for 25 points. King Philip’s Seth Sullivan scored a career-high 26 points while sophomore Kyle Layman had 16 points.

Oliver Ames, 63 @ Barnstable, 56 – Final Facing an 18 point deficit in the fourth quarter, Oliver Ames scored 35 points in the final quarter to earn head coach Don Byron his 400th career win. Junior Jack Spillane scored 19 of his career-high 31 points in the fourth quarter to spark the large comeback. Senior Dylan Mahoney scored 15 points and sophomore Jake Erlich had 12 points for the Tigers.

Taunton, 78 vs. New Bedford, 55 – FinalTaunton senior Tommy MacLean dropped a team-high 16 points as the Tigers swept the season series against the Whalers. Lens Esquil and Lou Vendrell each added 12 points in the win while freshman Dante Law finished with 10 points.

Canton, 74 @ Avon, 33 – Final – Canton senior Griffin Jerrier recorded his first double-double of the season with a game-high 16 points and 11 rebounds. Tony Harris added 14 points, freshman Devin Foster had 11 points and Austin Maffie and Eric Olshaker each scored eight points for the Bulldogs.
Oliver Ames, 39 vs. Archbishop Williams, 25 – Final
Sharon, 54 @ Wilmington, 47 – Final – Sharon’s Matt Lowerre dropped in a team-high 16 points and Andrew Filipkowski drained four three pointers and totaled 14 points to help the Eagles. 
Stoughton, 79 vs. Natick, 66 – Final – Brandon Teixeira scored a game-high 25 points and had nine rebounds as the Black Knights opened with a win at the Randolph Holiday Classic. Cam Gomes added 15 points and five rebounds, Ryan Sullivan had 12 points and four rebounds and Cam Andrews had 11 points and four rebounds. Drayton Tisdale had six points, nine rebounds and four assists. 
Taunton, 49 @ Durfee, 65 – Final – Jose Mercado scored 13 points and Tommy MacLean scored 12 points in the loss for the shorthanded Tigers. 
Girls Basketball
Mansfield, 43 vs. Cooperstown, 28 – Final – Caroline Maher was the top scorer for the Hornets, who ended Cooperstown’s 30-game win streak. Jackie Carchedi added 11 points for Mansfield and combined with Jen Kemp to hold Cooperstown’s top scorer, who came in averaging 26 per game, to just seven points.
Oliver Ames, 56 vs. Walpole, 40 – Final – Kaitlyn McCarthy and Francesca Calabraro each scored 13 points for the Tigers. McCarthy added seven rebounds and four assists. Kayla Raymond scored 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. Sam Bamford scored eight for OA, which advances to face Needham on Tuesday.

Marshfield Tournament (Mansfield, North Attleboro, Sharon, Oliver Ames) – North Attleboro had all members of the team earn points as they finished first overall out of 37 team with 223 points. Sharon finished seventh with 128.5 points, Oliver Ames placed 20th with 67 points and Mansfield was 34th with 26 points. North Attleboro’s Devin Spratt was named the Marshfield Holiday Tournament Outstanding Wrestler after winning at 120 with a pin over St. John Prep’s Malcolm Mitchell. Sharon’s David Ellis-Rech won at 138 with a 4-1 decision over Hingham’s Joey Ryan.
