Player of the Week: Chris Hanewich, North Attleboro Football

North Attleboro senior Chris Hanewich has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Sept. 4 through Sept. 10. Hanewich is the first player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2023-24 school year.
Hanewich accounted for more than 150 totals yards and four touchdowns (two receiving and two rushing) to help the Rocketeers pull out a 29-19 win over neighboring rival Bishop Feehan. The senior, who battled injuries most of his junior season, had 44 yards on 10 carries and caught four passes for 94 yards, including a TD in the final five minutes that sealed the win for Big Red.
On a sweltering night at a packed Beaupre Field, Hanewich’s impact was immediate. North lined up for its first play from scrimmage in a power set but went with play action and sent Hanewich (lined up at tailback) deep. He got behind the Feehan defense and pulled in a 46-yard touchdown pass from Chase Frisoli to get the Rocketeers off to a perfect start. Hanewich added a seven-yard touchdown and two-point conversion to put North ahead 16-7 and scored from three yards out to extend the lead to 16 before halftime. Late in the fourth quarter, with Feehan hanging around down 10, North faced fourth down from the Shamrocks’ eight. Frisoli looked for Hanewich, who fought cramps throughout the second half, and he was able to leap over double coverage and pull in the score that gave North a 16-point cushion with less than five minutes to play.
