Franklin sophomore Clara Blongastainer has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for May 24 through May 30. Blongastainer is the 26th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year and the ninth in the spring season.
One of the league’s leading scorers in the regular season, Blongastainer has continued her impressive performance into the playoffs, helping the Panthers make a run to the Div. 1 quarterfinal. The reigning HockomockSports.com Underclassman of the Year scored six times in the opening round and helped dominate the draw on Saturday to earn a road win over Bishop Feehan.
“Clara is only a sophomore, but she is playing like a veteran on our team,” said Franklin head coach Kristin Igoe Guarino. “Not only is she a scoring machine, but she also plays a huge role in helping us gain possession at the draw circle. I am so impressed with her confidence, teamwork and improvement this season.”
After finishing the regular season with 104 points, which was second in the Hock, Blongastainer came out firing in Franklin’s opening tournament game against Andover. Seeking revenge for last year’s upset loss, the Panthers controlled the second half and ran away with a 15-5 win. Blongastainer scored four times in the first half, as Franklin went into the break ahead 8-3, and added two more in the fourth quarter as the Panthers broke the game wide open.
On Saturday, in the rain and wind at McGrath Stadium, Blongastainer scored a pair of goals and dished out two assists in the win over Feehan, but it was her work on the draw (four draw controls) that stood out, enabling Franklin to turn a one-goal game into a five-goal lead in the space of just a couple minutes in the third quarter. The win, Franklin’s second over the Shamrocks in the space of two weeks, has the Panthers on the brink of the Final Four. They travel to No. 4 Westford Academy on Tuesday.
