Foxboro, 3 @ Attleboro, 1 – FinalAfter a scoreless first period, Foxboro found the back of the net twice in the second and tacked on a third in the final period to pick up a win over Attleboro in a non-league clash. Junior Kirk Leach opened the scoring on an assist from Jack Watts, and Eoin Reager doubled the lead on an unassisted goal to make it 2-0. Sebastian Ricketts scored in the third period to make it 3-0 before Attleboro’s Ryan Morry got the Bombardiers on the board.

North Attleboro, 5 vs. Smithfield (R.I.), 3 – Final

Oliver Ames, 2 @ Medway, 3 – FinalOliver Ames went on the power play and pulled its goalie for the final 1:40 of the game but couldn’t find the tying goal, falling to Medway in its season opener. Senior Duncan Pereira and junior Luca DeCillia (first career goal) scored for the Tigers while senior Owen Connor (29 saves) played well in net.

Stoughton, 0 @ Dartmouth, 3 – FinalStoughton goalie Ryan Spano was outstanding in net for the Black Knights, making 44 saves.

Girls Hockey
Canton, 5 vs. Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake, 0 – FinalCarolyn Durand made 15 saves to record her second shutout in as many games, as the Bulldogs won for the second time in three days to start the season.

Stoughton, 0 @ Franklin, 7 – FinalFranklin opened the season with a big win at home over visiting Stoughton. Freshman Lyndsey Atkinson had a big debut, scoring her first goal while adding a pair of assists to lead the way. Sophomore Maggie McCaffrey, freshman Shaw Downing, and freshman Molly Hurley also scored their first career goals for the Panthers win the win. Gabby Colace had a 12-save shutout for the win.

King Philip, 0 @ Mansfield/Oliver Ames, 4 – FinalMOA’s Lily O’Brien scored twice, Julia Muttart anchored the defense, and Jess Widdop notched the shutout in goal as the Warriors skated to a league win over King Philip. Melissa Shanteler put the hosts up with a goal with 5:49 left in the opening period while O’Brien scored twice in the first five minutes of the second. Junior Emma Pereira found her younger sister Reese Pereira with a pass, and she connected with O’Brien down low to make it 2-0. Three minutes later, O’Brien had her second after burying a rebound off a shot from Ella Waryas. Alex Ledin added another second period goal to put MOA up 4-0. Widdop finished with 18 saves for the shutout.

Wrestling
Ashland Early Bird (North Attleboro) – North Attleboro earned 106.5 points to take eight place overall at the Ashland Early Bird Tournament to kick off the season. Tanner Ferguson (106) picked up the first tournament win for the Rocketeers, earning two pinfall victories, including one in the final over the top seed. Michael Edmonds (170) and Montrel Jackson (182) each had third place finishes for the Big Red.

Devin Ness Tournament (Oliver Ames) – Oliver Ames hosted its annual Devin Ness Invitational to kick off the 2019-2020 season, with the Tigers taking fifth overall with 144.5 points. Ness was a captain on the OA wrestling team that died unexpectedly in January 2013, and the Tigers have hosted this memorial tournament since the start of the 2013-2014 season. Senior Max Anderson opened the season in style, winning the 195 bracket. Anderson won his first two matches by fall, the semifinal matchup by major decision, and then pinned his opponent in 1:52 to win the bracket. Stavros Constantinou (120) and Remi Creighton (126), and Gavin Morrison (285) each earned third place finishes for the Tigers.

Watertown Quad (Taunton) – Taunton’s Luke Fraga and Ethan Harris both went undefeated on the day while the Tigers post a 1-2 record at the quad meet. Taunton knocked off Carver (48-18) but suffered setbacks to Norwood (24-45) and Watertown (27-41). Fraga went 3-0 wrestling at 113 while Harris had three wins at 152. Taunton’s Christian Balmain (160), Nico Sallaway (170), 182 Peter Ye (182), and Sean Guilmette (195) each had two wins.

Foxboro, 51 @ King Philip, 59 – FinalFoxboro won a pair of relays and one solo event but came up just short against King Philip. Kris Anderson won the 100 breaststroke in 1:29, and was a member of the winner 200 relay with Anthony Amico, Dimitrios Davis, and Jared Roke (2:11). Foxboro’s 400 relay team of Marek Stone, Amico, Roke, and Joseph St. Pierre won in 5:17.

Foxboro, 77 @ King Philip, 97 – FinalFoxboro’s Megan Lanthrop recorded a pair of sectional qualifying times in the meet against King Philip. Lanthrop won the 100 fly with a time of 1:06, and took second overall in the 500 free in 5:51.

Boys Hockey
Franklin, 5 @ Attleboro, 0 – FinalScott Elliott scored a pair of goals and three other Panthers found the back of the net as Franklin skated to a shutout win over Attleboro. Senior Joey Lizotte, senior Zac Falvey, and sophomore Declan Lovett also scored for the Panthers in the win.

Canton, 1 vs. Westwood, 1 – FinalCanton sophomore Lizzie Tassinari scored with 1:41 left in the game to help the Bulldogs earn a tie in what felt like a championship level game according to CHS head coach Dennis Aldrich.

Franklin, 6 vs. Medway, 3 – FinalFranklin senior Cassi Ronan scored a hat trick to pace the Panthers to a win over Medway at home on Saturday night. Ronan also had an assist while Regan Paterson and Gianna Cameron scored once. Libby Carter, Katelyn Brown, and Tina Pisano added assists while Gabby Colace made 12 saves to earn the win.

Mansfield/Oliver Ames, 1 vs. Dedham, 1 – FinalDedham scored on a shorthanded goal in the second period but MOA responded within two minutes to tie the game, and that ended up as the final score. Ella Waryas connected with Kylie O’Keefe, and she in turn hit a streaking Emma Garland, who tucked the puck through the goalie’s pads to tie the game. Warrior freshman goalie Jess Widdop had a standout game, making 30 saves.

Stoughton, 0 @ Cohasset, 6 – Final

Wrestling
Norton Quad (Canton, Stoughton) –

Foxboro Quad (Foxboro) – Foxboro hosted Carver, Hanover, and Hingham for a quad meet, picking up two wins but suffering a loss to the Harbormen. The Warriors defeated Carver (84-0) and Hanover (58-21) but lost 44-36 to Hingham. TJ Whitehouse (113), Adam Lanctot (120), Tom Cullen (170), William Ogbebor (220), and Billy McNeil (285) each went 3-0 on the day for Foxboro.

Algonquin Quad (Franklin) – Franklin picked up three impressive wins at the Algonquin quad, including a dramatic come-from-behind victory. The Panthers beat Framingham (36-29), Algonquin (49-12) and used a last match pin from Drew DiFilippo to secure a 33-28 win over West Springfield. Dominic Sackley went 3-0 for Franklin with three pins.

Milford @ Wilmington, 9:00

Cumberland Meet (North Attleboro, Oliver Ames) – In a tournament featuring some of the top teams from around New England, North Attleboro took fifth place with 122 points and Oliver Ames was eighth overall with 85.5 at the John Gorman Invitational. North Attleboro senior Mateusz Kudra (2850 remained unbeaten on the season, picking up three pins to advance to the final where he earned a 7-0 decision over second-seeded Edison Guarcas of Hope High School. Liam Rizk (182) added a third place finish for the Rocketeers while Michael Burns (138) and Ethan Smith (120) each took fourth overall. Oliver Ames’ Dean Pacini (195) picked up an individual title with an upset in the final round. Pacini had three wins to get to the final, and trailed top-seeded Kaream Sangare of Cumberland High 4-1 after the first round. Pacini was down 6-3 late in the third round before earning a takedown and getting at pin at 5:31 for the title. Billy Tat (170) added a third place finish for the Tigers, Remi Creighton (113) was sixth, and Nick McGovern (120) went 4-2 on the day.

St. John’s Shrewsbury Quad (Sharon) – Sharon picked up a pair of wins at the St. John’s Shrewsbury quad. The Eagles recorded victories over the hosts (57-12) and Marlboro (34-32) but came up short against powerhouse Masconomet (42-33). Jon Wald (182) and Amit Levin (120) each went unbeaten on the day while Nathan Daley (285) earned his first varsity win.

Methuen Quad (Mansfield, Taunton) – Mansfield earned three wins while Taunton picked up one at a super quad at Methuen High School. The Hornets beat Monty Tech (46-14), Silver Lake (58-9), and Marshfield (48-18) but lost to host Methuen (34-31) in a close match. Taunton recorded a win over Monty Tech (45-21). Mansfield’s Antonios Sevastos, CJ Glaropoulos, George Glaropoulos, Jayden Curley, and Ethan Nirenberg were all undefeated throughout the day. Taunton’s Tyler Lima (120, dec. 6-5), Wansly Perceval (126, pin), and Mason Frank (285, pin) picked up wins in the victory over Monty Tech.

Boys Basketball
Franklin, 55 vs. Bridgewater-Raynham, 47 – FinalFranklin started and finished strong in the championship game of the Larry Fisher Holiday Tournament to beat the hosts. Franklin junior Steve Karayan connected on six three-pointers, including two in the first and two in the fourth quarters, for a career-high 18 points. The Panthers led 36-34 heading into the final quarter but outscored the Trojans 19-13 in the frame to pull away with the win. Senior Jalen Samuels added 14 points and was named tournament MVP while senior Jake Macchi added a career-high 12 points.

Oliver Ames, 51 vs. Cardinal Spellman, 45 – FinalOliver Ames limited the Cardinals to four points in the second quarter to build a 25-14 advantage at the break, and took a 40-26 lead into the final frame but had to hold off a furious charge from Spellman to earn the win. Spellman cut the lead to 48-45 with 31 seconds to go but OA secured the win in the championship game of the Muscato Holiday Tournament. Senior Ethan Eckstrom scored 13 points and was named tournament MVP while junior Jay Spillane also scored 13 points for the Tigers.

Girls Basketball
Foxboro, 63 @ Hopkinton, 23 – FinalClick here for a Photo Gallery from this game. Lizzy Davis led the Warriors with 16 points, while Katelyn Mollica had 15 and Yara Fawaz added 10. Shakirah Ketant came off the bench to add seven points, nine rebounds, and four blocks for Foxboro, which didn’t allow a made field goal during the second and third quarters.

Mansfield, 40 vs. Ridgefield (Conn.), 32 – FinalMansfield led by just two points entering the fourth, but pulled away by holding Ridgefield to only five points in the final quarter. Defense was the key for the Hornets, who led 20-10 at halftime despite shooting 0-for-16 from the field in the second. Sydney Mulkern had 14 points and Maggie Danehy recorded a second double-double in as many days with 10 points and 14 boards.

North Attleboro, 49 vs. Dighton-Rehoboth, 55 – FinalAmanda Kaiser led the Rocketeers with 22 points in the consolation game of their holiday tournament.

Attleboro, 26 vs. Norwood, 39 – FinalThe Bombardiers played even with unbeaten Norwood in the second half but couldn’t overcome a tough start on the offensive end after falling behind 21-8 at halftime. Liv McCall scored a team-high seven points and was named to the all-tournament team. Nyah Thomas added six points for Attleboro.

Boys Hockey
Attleboro, 2 vs. Dartmouth, 2 – FinalAttleboro rallied for a pair of third period goals to earn a tie with Dartmouth. Cam Littig scored twice in the final period to bring the Bombardiers level, with Ryan Morry assisting on both goals. Sam Larkin and Aidan Diggin also had an assist for Attleboro.

Canton, 4 vs. Westwood, 0 – FinalCanton’s Ryan Nolte and Johnny Hagan scored in the second period and Timmy Kelleher and Chris Lavoie tacked on goals in the third period as the Bulldogs claimed the Joe Donnelly Cup with a win over Westwood.

Foxboro, 8 vs. St. John Paul II/Sacred Heart, 2 – FinalKirk Leach picked up five points and Ronnie MacLellan registered four points as the Warriors skated to a win in the championship game of the JP2 Hockey Classic. Leach scored twice and picked up three assists while MacLellan was responsible for one goal and three helpers.

King Philip 7, vs. Brockton, 4 – FinalKing Philip scored four goals in the second period, turning a deficit into a lead, and tacked on two more in the final period to get the win over the Boxers. Senior Luke D’Amico put the Warriors on the board in the first but KP trailed 2-1 after one. Goals from Brendan Shandley, Rocco Bianculli, Aidan Boulger, and Garrett Maxwell helped the Warriors take a 5-4 lead into the final period. Jack Coulter and D’Amico scored insurance goals in the third period while James Lewis finished with 14 saves in net.

North Attleboro, 2 vs. Moses Brown (R.I.), 3 – Final

Canton, 1 vs. Westwood, 5 – FinalLauren Fitzpatrick scored Canton’s only goal.

Mansfield/Oliver Ames, 4 @ King Philip, 3 – FinalKing Philip scored early in the third period to go up 3-1 but Mansfield/Oliver Ames rallied for three straight goals, including the game-winner with just over a minute left to pick up a win over the Warriors. Sydney O’Shea and Morgan Cunningham scored first period goals to put KP up 2-0. Izzy Shanteler got MOA on the board in the second but Meghan Gorman made it 3-1 with an early third period goal. But Emma Pereira scored with 10:47 left, Shanteler got her second with 5:10 to go, and Pereira tallied her second with 1:04 to play for the game-winner. Skyler Sharfman had two assists for MOA while Jess Widdop made 18 saves in goal.

Stoughton, 2 @ St. Joseph Prep/Mt. Alvernia, 8 – Final

Wrestling
Agawam Tournament Franklin had eight wrestlers finish fifth or better and took fourth overall as a team with 145 points. Drew DiFilippo was the 106 champion, winning 13-8 in the finals over Moses Oquendo of Holyoke. Alex Facassa (126) and Liam Cogavin (182) each took second, Matt Leofanti (220) earned a third place finish, Luke Cashin (152), Nolan Sheridan (195), and Quinn Fila-Montgomery (113) each placed fourth, and Michael Hasenfus (132) took fifth overall.

Taunton, 5 @ Somerset-Berkley, 1 – FinalTaunton led by a goal at the end of each the first (1-0) and second periods (2-1), and then scored three third period goals to secure the win. Mike Albert (goal, two assists), Andrew Carter (goal, assist), Nick Vandermeel (goal, assist), and Cam Faria (two assists) each had multi-point games for the Tigers. Andrew Gomes made 26 saves to earn the win.

Canton, 8 @ Whitman-Hanson, 0 – FinalMaggie Malloy notched a hat trick, giving her seven goals in the last two games, and freshman Tess Khoury had a pair of goals to lead the Bulldogs to the road win.

Franklin, 4 vs. Algonquin, 1 – FinalCassi Ronan scored two goals for the second straight game to help Franklin stay unbeaten on the season and hand the T-hawks their first loss. Gina Vignone and Amanda Lewandowski also scored for the Panthers, while sophomore Gabby Colace returned from injury to pick up her first win in net.

Monty Tech Duals – King Philip finished second overall at the tournament.

Norton Quad – Sharon went 1-2 on the day, beating Danvers (48-28) but losing to Hingham (36-30) and to Norton (45-22). Alex Bolt went 3-0 for the Eagles.

Whitman-Hanson Quad – Stoughton went 4-1 on the day, losing to Plymouth South (46-27) but beating Carver (51-12), Middleboro (54-29), Josiah Quincy (47-18) and Whitman-Hanson (51-30).

Brockton Quad (Taunton) – The Tigers suffered setbacks to Brockton, Wayland, and Sandwich. Mason Frank (285) had two wins for the Tigers, both by pins. Brandon Mendes (106, pin), Ben Mandeville (113, pin), Tyler Lima (126, pin), Candido Santos (160), Ryan Silva (195, pin), and Devin Wilson (220, pin) each had a win for Taunton.

Franklin, 136 @ King Philip, 131.6 – FinalFranklin’s Mia Lizotte won the all-around with a score of 36.35. Lizotte finished with scores of 9.35 on the bar, 9.2 on the vault and the floor exercise, and 8.6 on the beam. Sophomore Emma Owens (8.9), freshman Kate Rudolph (8.85), and sophomore Lexi Lupien (8.5) also had high scores on the vault. On the floor, Franklin got an 8.8 from Rudolph and 8.5 from her classmate Caroline Woelfel, as well as scores of 8.4 from Owens and senior Sadie Rondeau.

Matt Copponi added three assists while Jake Lund and Braedon Copparini each tallied one goal apiece.

Oliver Ames, 7 vs. Pembroke, 3 – FinalOliver Ames senior Max Ward scored a hat trick to pace the Tigers to a win over visiting Pembroke. Senior Cullen Gallagher had five points, with one goal and four assists, sophomore Matt Nigro netted his first career goal, and junior Owen Connor made 19 saves in net for the win.

Jayden Curley (182) needed just 15 seconds to earn a pinfall victory for the Hornets, and Will Stratton (145), George Glaropoulos (170), and Shane Cremmen (220) all won by fall as well. Antonios Sevastos (120), CJ Glaropoulos (152), and Ciaran Connolly (160) each by by decision.

Stoughton, 24 @ Oliver Ames, 49 – FinalOliver Ames had six grapplers win by fall and two more by decision to pick up a win over neighboring Stoughton. Remi Creighton, Joey Savino, Braeden Kelley, Billy Tat, Jeremy Clark, and Dean Pacini each won by fall while Nick McGovern and Andrew Fraser emerged victorious by decision for the Tigers.

Sharon, 45 vs. Woonsocket (R.I.), 32 – FinalSharon built a big lead early and fended off a comeback attempt from Woonsocket during the lighter weights to record the win. Sharon’s Kevin Simons (138), Tyler Cashton (152), Tyler Feedman (170), Philip Varvak (182), and Alex Bolt (195) all won by fall while Vinay Chinnam (126) and Huegens Pierre (145) won by decision for the Eagles.
