Canton, 0 @ North Attleboro, 3 – Final – North Attleboro’s offense exploded for three goals, snapping Canton’s seven game unbeaten streak. Gabe Pinhancos opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing off a cross from Zach Matracia to put North up 1-0. Leo Charlebois doubled the lead, converting from the penalty spot after Andrew Fontaine drew the foul inside the area. Pinhancos got his second of the game in the 53rd minute, taking a through ball from Conor Danahey to put the Rocketeers up 3-0. Shawn Watters made six saves in net and North head coach Geoff Burgess said John Brennan was huge defensively for Big Red.

Foxboro, 1 @ Sharon, 2 – FinalSharon scored once in each half to pick up a key division win against Foxboro. Jake Teven opened the scoring in the first half, scoring an unassisted goal from just outside the area to put the Eagles up 1-0. Andrew Reyes-Jones doubled Sharon’s lead, converting a long throw from Tyler Hippler to make it 2-0. An own goal with three minutes to play put Foxboro on the board.

Taunton, 0 @ Mansfield, 3 – FinalCullin Anastasia scored inside the opening 10 minutes off an assist from Sam Hyland to set the tone for the Hornets. John Cooney doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, scoring off an assist from Max Gurnon and James Chotkowski iced the game in the 72nd minute off an assist from Anastasia. Nick Ferraz notched his first career shutout with four saves. Head coach Steve Sheridan had high praise for Sam Nugent, Ethan Brill-Cass, Harry Braidt, Jalaj Singh, Jake Tuleja and Gurnon for their defensive play.

Franklin, 1 @ Oliver Ames, 0 – Final Kevin Hall scored the lone goal of the game in the second half on an assist from Noah Scafati to help the Panthers earn the win. Freddie Beckmann recorded the shutout in net for Franklin.

Stoughton, 1 @ Milford, 0 – FinalStoughton’s Marco Antunes scored his first goal of the season early in the second half as the Black Knights beat Milford. Noah Schulze served in a free kick that Antunes was able to eventually latch on to. Matt Gallagher recorded his second straight shutout of the year. “Milford was excellent and made us play hard for the win tonight,” Stoughton head coach Aaron Salter said. “Marco Antunes was excellent and so was my defense.” Milford head coach Brian Edwards said Andre Oliveira and Marcello Panno put in great performances in midfield for the Scarlet Hawks.

Girls Soccer
King Philip, 3 @ Attleboro, 0 – FinalKing Philip freshman Avery Snead scored a pair of goals in the first 20 minutes of the game to lead the Warriors, who qualified for the postseason with the win. Snead converted a pass from classmate Chloe Layne for the game-winner in the eighth minute and doubled the lead in the 19th minute, netting a through ball from Julia Massarone from 10 yards out. Riley Magane iced the game on a shot from just inside the area off an assist from Skylah Caruso.

North Attleboro, 1 @ Canton, 1 – FinalRiley Duserick gave Canton a lead in the first half but North Attleboro’s Aine Mendonca leveled the scoring before the break, scoring on a free kick. North Attleboro head coach Bill Wallace said Haley Guertin, Rachel LaBonte and Emily Chiasson played well for the Rocketeers.

Sharon, 2 @ Foxboro, 1 – FinalAlex Rabb scored a pair of goals, putting Sharon ahead 1-0 just over 10 minutes into the game and then netting the game-winner on a free kick from 30 yards out just before halftime. Ally Filipkowski notched the assist on Rabb’s opener. Foxboro’s Kristen Bortolotti scored on a penalty kick in the first half for the Warriors.

Mansfield, 2 @ Taunton, 0 – FinalHannah Reiter netted a pair of second half goals to lead Mansfield to the win on the road.

Oliver Ames, 0 @ Franklin, 0 – FinalRegan Benton had the shutout for Oliver Ames in Net. OA head coach Britt Sellmayer said Zoe Chazan, Dana Lowney and Kiana Lozzi had strong games for the Tigers.

Milford, 6 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final Gabbie Riley and Maggie Boyle each scored a pair of goals while Julianna France and Sydney Morrison each netted one goal to lead the Scarlet Hawks. Olivia Marshall notched the shutout in net for Milford.

Volleyball
Attleboro, 0 @ King Philip, 3 – Final King Philip defended its home court with a 25-16, 25-13, 25-19 sweep of the visiting Bombardiers. Kat Kmetz led KP with 16 service points while Carly Adams had 14 service points and Sydney Phillips finished with 12 service points and had a strong game at the net. Emma Lopez had six kills and Liv Balduf finished with four kills and 10 service points for the Warriors.

Canton, 3 @ North Attleboro, 1 – Final Canton dropped the second set but rebounded to get the next two for a 25-17, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20 win. “It was a gritty, hard fought battle,” Canton head coach Pat Cawley said. Nicole Poole dished out 21 assists and added six kills and six aces to lead the Bulldogs. Emma Murphy had seven kills six blocks and two aces, Cassie Loftus had her best all around match of the season according to Cawley with five kills and some impressive defensive play. Julia Panico controlled Canton’s defense with 15 digs.

Foxboro, 2 @ Sharon, 3 – FinalSharon won the second and third sets but had to battle all the way to the fifth set to earn the win over Foxboro. Sharon junior Jess Allan led Eagles’ offense with 10 kills along with seven aces. Junior Naomi Topal added nine kills and six aces, senior Faythe Gomolka tallied 17 assists and Cori Jermyn had five aces, six digs and four blocks.

Taunton, 0 @ Mansfield, 3 – FinalMansfield picked up the sweep, 25-19, 25-19, 25-19, at home against Tainton. Chloe Peters had 14 service points and 20 assists, Jess Haradon had 11 digs and eight service points, Meg Hill added 11 kills and Lexi Gardner chipped in with six service points .

Franklin, 3 @ Oliver Ames, 2 – FinalFranklin picked up a big division win in five sets on the road at Oliver Ames. Erin Skidmore led the Panthers with 12 kills while adding 23 digs and a pair of aces. Maddie Kuzio also had two aces while leading Franklin with 31 digs. Lauren McGrath had 31 assists to go along with an ace and Maggie Doyle had six kills and five blocks.

Stoughton, 0 @ Milford, 3 – Final

Field Hockey
Attleboro, 0 @ King Philip, 5 – FinalCaitlin Donahue scored a hat trick, netting two goals in the first half as KP held a 4-0 lead by the break. Liz Furfari and Alli Meehan each scored once for the Warriors.

Canton, 3 @ North Attleboro, 0 – Final

Foxboro, 7 @ Sharon, 0 – Final

Taunton, 0 @ Mansfield, 4 – Final

Franklin, 5 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – Final Franklin punched its ticket to the state tournament with an impressive win on the road. Sophomores Annie Walsh and Cassi Ronan each had scored two goals and grabbed an assist to lead the Panthers. Senior Kayla Marshall added a goal and senior Caroline Lounsbury had an assist. Franklin sophomore goalie Christina Lucini made four saves to get the win in net. Franklin head coach Lisa Cropper said Dana Lewandowski and Kate Morse had outstanding games through the midfield and on defense.

Stoughton, 5 @ Milford, 3 – FinalOlivia Schlehuber scored a pair of goals for Stoughton, while Kayla Oliviera, Mia Russell and Julia Russell scored once to pace the Black Knights.

Golf
Sharon, 167 @ Oliver Ames, 146 – FinalOliver Ames’ Brady Allbritton and Mark Bissonette shared medalist honors, both shooting 36 for the Tigers. Nolan Donze and Thomas Walsh each shot 37 for Oliver Ames. Sharon’s Andrew Glover and Max Avratin each shot 41.

Canton, 165 @ Attleboro, 178 – FinalCanton’s Joey Vaughan earned match medalist honors after shooting a low-round of 40 for the Bulldogs. Danny Powers shot a 41 and both Jackson Maffeo and Matt Minichiello carded a round of 42. Attleboro’s Corey McKenna shot a team-low 41 on the day.

Milford, 169 @ King Philip, 180 – FinalRyan Tomaso earned match medalist honors, shooting a round-low 36 for the Scarlet Hawks. Anthony Arcudi shot a 40 for Milford while Danny McLoughlin carded a team-low round of 41 for KP.

Saturday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 05/14/16

Today’s games are listed below.

Baseball
North Attleboro, 3 vs. Central Catholic, 6 – Final – North Attleboro was able to tie the game 2-2 through three innings but Central Catholic built a 6-2 lead by the seventh inning. John Brennan had an RBI single down the third base line and Zach DeMattio had an infield RBI grounder. Andy Katch capped North’s scoring with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. Matt Papineau pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four earned runs in a solid outing for Big Red.

Softball
King Philip, 1 @ Newton North, 0 – Final – King Philip scored its lone run in the first inning and senior Kali Magane retired 21 of the 22 batters she faced, giving up a bunt single and striking out 14. Christa Wagner led off with a single, stole second and came home on an errant throw trying to get Elise Pereira out on a bunt play. Magane and Caeli Bench each had a hit while Meghan Gorman had two hits for the Warriors.

Oliver Ames, 1 @ Mansfield, 2 – Final – Mansfield senior Bri Homer scored what turned out to be the winning run in the second inning and tagged out what would have been the tying run in the top of the seventh. Homer took a relay throw from Jocelyn Reardon after a throw from Amanda Giambanco in right field. Homer was 2-2 on the day, following a walk from Liz Mackin in the second inning with a single. Marissa Staffier hit a two-run single down the right field line next to put the Hornets up. Maddie Letendre got the win on the mound, striking out eight while allowing four hits. For Oliver Ames, Jamie Gottwald was 1-2 with an RBI triple, Victoria Ziner went 2-3 with a pair of doubles and a run scored and Caroline Mahoney had a double. Freshman Kayla Georgeu struck out five and allowed five hits in six innings of work.

North Attleboro, 2 vs. Bishop Feehan, 8 – Final – Abby Warren was able to keep the Shamrocks off balance for six innings but the away team plated six runs late. Kaylea Sherman went 2-3 with a pair of RBI and had an assist at the plate. Jordan Sharpe was 2-3 and Meg Barlow added a double for the Rocketeers.

Boys Lacrosse
Canton, 6 @ Dennis-Yarmouth, 3 – Final – Canton built a 2-0 lead after a quarter and held a 5-2 advantage by halftime. Dan Nadeau moved from his normal position in defense to play midfield and found the back of the net twice. Ben O’Neill led Canton’s offense with three goals and Ryan Lodge scored once.

Foxboro, 8 vs. Norwood, 3 – Final

King Philip, 8 @ Walpole, 15 – Final – King Philip rallied from a three goal deficit at halftime to knot the game at 7-7 but Walpole scored three straight goals in 67 seconds, stealing away the momentum and taking the win. Sam Agricola, Tim Watson, Harry Fallon and John DeLuca each scored twice for KP while Agricola, Collin DeVellis and Anthony Truini each had an assist.

Oliver Ames, 10 @ Whitman-Hanson, 9 – Final (2OT) – Senior attack Matt Gilson took a feed from Owen Gallagher in the second overtime and scored his fifth goal of the game to give Oliver Ames the win. Gilson’s five goals were complemented by a pair of goals and assists from Gallagher, two goals from Eric LeBlanc and a goal from senior Aidan Connly. Senior Jake Aronson made 17 saves in the cage for Oliver Ames.

Wednesday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 05/04/16

Today’s games are listed below.

Baseball
Stoughton, 12 @ Attleboro, 4 – Final (5.5 inn.) – Stoughton’s offense came to life, plating nine runs in the first five innings and tacking on three more in the top of the sixth before the game was called due to the weather. Ryan Sullivan went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs, Joe Piana went 2-4 with two runs and three RBI, Pat Hagerty contributed a clutch 2-out two RBI single, scored a run, and stole a base, Jack Connelly had a stolen base as well, with two walks and two runs scored and Luke Johnson scored three runs and had a double and RBI. Shortstop Doug Seaman played well defensively, overcoming the elements to record five assists and a put out with no errors. Nico Parmeggiani got the win on the mound, going five innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on just three hits with three strikeouts.

Franklin, 0 @ Canton, 2 – Final – Kevin Powers got the win on the mound for the Bulldogs, going the distance by tossing a complete game, giving up six hits while striking out three and issuing just one walk. Powers helped his cause at the plate, going 2-4 at the plate with an RBI. Jim Jenkins was 2-3, Mike McMahon was 1-3 with the run scored in a stolen base and junior Kevin Monagle had two hits for Canton.

Mansfield, 5 @ Foxboro, 6 – Final – Aaron Wentling earned the win, pitching six innings and senior Nick Wright came in to pitch the seventh inning for the save. Both AJ Bubencik and Jesse Galanti had two RBI singles for the Warriors.

Oliver Ames, 2 @ King Philip, 5 – Final – With the game knotted 2-2, the Warriors plated three runs in the fifth inning to break open the game. Jake Cavanagh threw a complete game for the Warriors, scattering eight hits and striking out six. King Philip’s defense played error free and the offense belted out nine hits. Jon Rolfe went 3-3 on the day with an RBI while Jake Lannigan and Jack DiCenso each knocked in a pair of runs for the Warriors. Ryan Adams and Matt Mancini each had two hits for the Tigers.

Milford, 0 @ Taunton, 3 – Final (5 inn.) – In a rain shortened game, the Tigers took advantage in the first and fourth innings to get the win. Sophomore Christian Simoes smacked a two run double in the first inning, scoring Matt Machado and Max Bowden. Senior Kevin Griffin added an RBI single in the fourth, knocking in sophomore Joe Manchester (hit, stolen base). Senior Luke Figueira improved to 5-0 on the season, throwing five innings, striking out six with just two hits allowed.

Sharon, 7 @ North Attleboro, 5 – Final (6 inn.) – Sharon took advantage of a five-run second inning to get the win in a rain shortened game. Mark Botaish reached base four times, going 2-2 with a double, Aiden Arnold had a three-run double and Spencer Singer went 2-3. Andrew Filipkowski gave up two hits in 2 2/3 innings in relief for save. North Attleboro’s John Brennan had a double and a home run, knocking in four runs for the Rocketeers.

Softball
Attleboro, 6 @ Stoughton, 7 – Final – Stoughton scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out the win, which was capped by Shannon Flaherty’s walk-off single to right. Flaherty also picked up the win in the circle after pitching a scoreless seventh in relief of Gina Carafa, who had allowed three earned runs in six innings.Jordan Lyons went 2-4 for the Black Knights and scored a pair of runs. Carafa, Courtney Campbell, and Bri Ferrandiz each went 2-3 for Stoughton.

Franklin, 14 @ Canton, 2 – Final Franklin broke the game open with an eight run third inning, tacking on five more in the final two innings after scoring one in the opening game. Alexx Niss went 3-4 with two RBI, a triple, and three runs scored, Olivia DiGiacomo went 4-5 and knocked in four runs and Olivia Haba, Julia Arms and Alyssa DaSilva combined for five RBI. Courtesy runner Kerry Blaney scored three runs for the Panthers. Emily Sawyer tossed a complete game, striking out four to earn the win.

Mansfield, 8 @ Foxboro, 5 – Final – It was a game to remember for freshmen twin sisters Mady and Kara Bendanillo. Mady went 4-4 at the play with two runs knocked in and Kara added three hits, knocking in two more runs. Liz Mackin also knocked in a pair of runs on two hits and Rachel Carafa had one RBI and two hits. Megan Letendre, Maddie Letendre, Marissa Staffier and Jocelyn Reardon all had a hit each for the Hornets, who totaled 16 hits. Maddie Letendre got the win for Mansfield, surrendering five hits while striking out 13.

King Philip, 10 @ Oliver Ames, 0 – Final – Oliver Ames freshmen Kayla Georgeu kept King Philip’s high powered offense in check through five innings but the Warriors exploded for eight runs in the the sixth inning. Christa Wagner had three hits while Meghan Gorman, Sydney Phillips and Elise Pereira each had a double in the sixth inning. Kali Magane struck out 11 to earn the win. Jamie Gottwald, Victoria Ziner, Caroline Mahoney (double), Missy Krim and Emma Papargiris each had a hit for Oliver Ames.

Taunton @ Milford – Postponed to TBD

North Attleboro, 10 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – Amelia Murphy threw her first career perfect game and helped her own cause offensively, scoring three runs. Kristina Murphy paced the Rocketeers’ offense, going 3-4 with a home run and five RBI. Jordan Sharpe had three hits, Gina Miceli and Liz Morehouse each had two hits and Mycala Moody had eight assists defensively.

Boys Lacrosse
Attleboro, 2 @ Foxboro, 12 – Final

Canton, 9 @ Oliver Ames, 2 – Final – Canton jumped out to an 8-0 lead on its way to a win over the Tigers. Head coach Bill Bendell said Chris Albert and Dylan Cunningham both played well in the cage and added seniors Dan Nadeau and Ben Berkowitz stood out on defense.

North Attleboro, 6 @ Franklin, 11 – Final – Franklin held a two goal lead at halftime (5-3) and went on to score six second half goals. Eric Civetti had five goals and an assist and Austin Kent Scored twice with one assist. Justin O’Callahan pitched in with three assists and freshman Jacob Alexander won 17/21 faceoffs.

King Philip, 5 @ Mansfield, 8 – Final – Mansfield goalie Sean Powers was strong in the cage, helping the Hornets edge the Warriors. Hunter Ferreria and Ryan Smith each scored twice for Mansfield while Cullen Murphy, Connor Finerty and Sam O’Connell each scored once. Both Grant and O’Connell also had an assist for the Hornets, who led 4-3 at halftime. King Philip’s Tim Watson scored twice and had one assist while Harry Fallon, Sam Agricola and Anthony Truini each scored once for the Warriors.

Sharon, 21 @ Milford, 3 – Final

Girls Lacrosse
Foxboro, 18 @ Attleboro, 3 – Final

Oliver Ames, 6 @ Canton, 12 – Final – Mary Nee led the Bulldogs, scoring twice and adding one assist in the win. For Oliver Ames, Sofia Masciarelli and Hannah Friend each scored twice while Carly Cidado and Erin Fitzgerald scored once.

Franklin, 13 @ North Attleboro, 9 – Final – Franklin freshman Annie Walsh paced the offense with four goals while Julia Jette had two goals and two assists and Caroline Lounsbury scored once and had one assist. Head coach Kristin Igoe said Dana Lewandowski played well on defense with two draws and two ground balls.
