Girls Basketball
King Philip, 52 @ Taunton, 44 – FinalEmily Sawyer scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the second half to help the Warrior hold off Taunton and pick up a road win. KP led 13-9 after the first quarter and extended its lead to five points at halftime. The teams were even in the third quarter, so the Warriors kept their five-point edge going into the the fourth. KP outscored Taunton 16-13 over the final eight minutes to secure the victory. Julia Marsden added 12 points for KP and Jackie Bonner had six. Kameron St. Pierre was Taunton’s top scorer with 16 points, including 11 in the second half. Jillian Doherty chipped in with 13 for the Tigers and Cali Melo had nine points before fouling out in the fourth quarter.










Boys Hockey
Stoughton, 1 @ Foxboro, 4 – FinalFoxboro senior Ben Ricketts found the back of the net twice to help the Warriors skate to a non-league win over Stoughton/Brockton. Ricketts scored the first goal for Foxboro and then the third goal, assists from Steve Bridges and Alex Coveillo on the first and Coviello again on his second. Derek Axon’s unassisted shorthanded goal proved to be the game-winner while Matt Grace (from Tom Marcucella and Brett Axon) tacked on a key insurance goal. Sophomore Trevor Marder played well in net for the Warriors with 24 saves. Anthony DeSousa scored the lone goal for the Black Knights.

King Philip, 2 @ Bridgewater-Raynham, 3 – Final (OT)

Girls Hockey
Canton, 5 vs. Dennis-Yarmouth, 2 – Final

King Philip, 4 @ Mansfield/Oliver Ames, 2 – Final – Kelly Holmes scored twice and Sydney O’Shea and Morgan Cunningham lit the lamp once each as King Philip skated to a league win over Mansifeld/Oliver Ames. Both Holmes and O’Shea also had a pair of assists and Cunningham had one, and Mallory Johnston had 19 saves in net for KP.

Stoughton/Sharon, 2 vs. St. Joseph’s Prep, 6 – FinalAva Buckley accounted for both of Stoughton/Sharon’s goals but the Knights fell to St. Joseph’s Prep. Zoe Bangs assisted on both goals while Peri Rodman recorded one helper.

Wrestling
D2 State Dual Meet (Oliver Ames, Sharon, Mansfield, Milford, North Attleboro), 10:00 (@ North Andover) – Milford won three meets to claim the D2 State Dual championship while Oliver Ames took third and Sharon rounded out the top four. The Scarlet Hawks picked up a win over Plymouth South (60-18) to advance to the semifinal, where they secured a win over the Tigers (42-24). In the championship round, Milford pinned down a win over Minnechaug (52-22). Oliver Ames opened with a win over Mansfield (56-21), moved to the semifinals with a win over Dracut/Tyngsboro (43-33), and then after falling to Milford, rallied to avenge its league loss to Sharon with a come-from-behind 35-32 win, capped by a pin from heavyweight Jaden Hinton. Hinton, Kyle Hardie (145), Giovany Juste (170), and Nathan Lipski (132) went 4-0 on the day. Chris Mills (220) rallied for a win that cut the Sharon lead to three going into the last match, won by Hinton.

Brockton Quad (Taunton) – Taunton had another impressive day on the mat, picking up four wins at the Brockton Super Quad. The Tigers secured wins over Woburn (78-6), Quincy/North Quincy (63-12), Brockton (45-24), and Xaverian (52-27). Six Taunton grapplers went 4-0 on the day: Michael Leskoski, Anthony Vieira, Xavier Sandoval, Christian Balmain, Ethan Harris, and Peter Ye.

Wednesday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 02/02/22

Boys Basketball
Canton, 48 @ Southeastern, 52 – FinalCanton made a final push in the fourth quarter but couldn’t quite catch Southeastern. The Bulldogs fell behind 21-12 after a quarter and were chasing the rest of the way. Southeastern carried a 46-39 lead into the final quarter, and Canton upped its defensive intensity to limit the hosts to just six points in the final frame but just couldn’t close the gap by the final buzzer. Matt Chafin led the way for Canton with 17 points, Lanse Dorcelus added nine points, and Jacob Solomon scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter.

Mansfield, 54 @ Bridgewater-Raynham, 55 – FinalMansfield held a three-point lead after a quarter and at halftime, and had a four-point advantage going into the fourth, but Bridgewater-Raynham was able to keep it close and scored the winning basket just before the buzzer to steal the win. Junior Chris Hill scored a career-high 23 points to lead the offensive charge for the Hornets. Matt Hyland added 13 points and Anthony Sachetti chipped in with 12 points for the Hornets.

Attleboro, 47 @ Bishop Feehan, 43 – FinalSophomore Neo Franco sank a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left to push the lead to four and Attleboro held on for a season sweep over the Shamrocks. Attleboro had a five-point lead at 32-27 going into the fourth quarter and, for the second straight game, opening the final period with a big run to extend its advantage. Joe Francois-Annevil drove to the rim for his only bucket of the game, Franco hit a three, and Colin Morais (team-high 15 points) converted a traditional three-point play as Attleboro’s lead ballooned to 40-27 in the first 90 seconds of the fourth. Feehan cut it down to two with just over a minute to go but Alvin Harrison (nine points) had another traditional three-point play to keep the Bombardiers ahead. Evan Houle (nine points) hit two threes in the first and Jake Struminski and Morais each had one as Attleboro raced out to a 18-7 lead. Feehan battled back to make it 25-21 at half, and then trailed Attleboro by five going into the fourth.

Girls Basketball
Franklin, 71 vs. Bishop Fenwick, 48 – FinalTwo players scored more than 20 points and the Panthers scored at least 17 points in every quarter to earn an impressive non-league win against another top 10-ranked team. Katie Peterson led the way for Franklin, scoring 16 of her team-high 22 in the second half. Stefany Padula added 20 points and Olivia Quinn had 12 in the win. Franklin led 18-10 after one and had a 10-point edge at halftime. After pushing the lead to 15 through three quarters, Peterson (eight), Padula (six), and Quinn (four) combined for 18 points in the fourth to put the game away and seal the win.

Boys Hockey
Foxboro, 6 @ Attleboro, 1 – FinalFoxboro erupted for five goals in the second period during its win over Attleboro. The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a nice backhand goal from freshman Dan Jacobs. Senior Ben Ricketts had a pair of goals in the win while Matt Grace, Tom Marcucella, and Dylan Pothier each scored won.

Stoughton/Sharon, 3 vs. Cambridge R&L, 7 – FinalAva Buckley scored a pair of goals but Stoughton fell to visiting Cambridge Rindge and Latin. Zoe Bangs added a goal and an assist while Lily Dinh and Mikayla Snyder each had an assists as well.

Wrestling
Foxboro, 44 @ Mansfield, 33 – Final

Oliver Ames, 30 @ Taunton, 49 – FinalIn a battle of two of the top five teams in the Hock, Taunton pinned down a win over visiting Oliver Ames. Michael Leskoski, Ryan Jones, Brandon Mendes, Xavier Sandoval, Ben Mandeville, Christian Balmain, Elijah Prophete, Peter Ye and Logan Frank had wins for Taunton.

Sharon, 36 vs. Andover, 37 – FinalAdam Landstein , Cam Birnbaum, Nick Varvak, Ben Shocket, Ben Grabie , Philip Varvak, and Cormac Horlbogen each won for the Eagles, who fell in a tight non-league clash with Andover.

Boys Basketball
Sharon, 76 @ Oliver Ames, 61 – FinalSharon scored 22 points in the opening quarter to build a double-digit lead that it never relinquished for its first win over Oliver Ames since 2016. Senior Will Hippler, junior Matt Baur, and sophomores Nate Katznelson and Jacob McLaughlin all connected from three-point range in the opening eight minutes as the Eagles shot nearly 60% from the field to establish a 22-11 lead. Katzneslon, McLaughlin and junior Jack Bates each added a three in the second for the Eagles, who hit seven of their 12 threes in the first half. Baur finished with a team-high 16 points and five rebounds to lead the way for Sharon, who held a 37-25 lead at half and a 55-35 lead going into the fourth quarter. Katznelson added 15 points and eight rebounds, McLaughlin finished with 13 points and five assists, and senior John Baez had eight points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals. Zach Tagliamonte led OA with a game-high 17 points and five rebounds while senior Drew Baxter and freshman Cole Craffey each had 10 points.

Boys Hockey
Mansfield, 4 @ Attleboro, 0 – FinalMansfield exploded for four goals in the second period to skate away with a league win over Attleboro. Senior Dillon Benoit scored a pair of goals for the second straight game, senior Ryan Doherty added one, and freshman Matt Tourigney scored his first career goal. The Hornets went a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill, improving to 9-for-9 on the kill in league games this year.

Canton, 2 @ Franklin, 1 – Final – Canton sophomore Brian Middleton scored the game-winning goal with just over three minutes left in the third period to help the Bulldogs avenge its loss to Franklin from earlier this season, this one in league action.

North Attleboro, 2 @ King Philip, 2 – Final

Taunton, 3 @ Oliver Ames, 4 – FinalSophomore Andrew Livingstone scored twice and junior Brandon Burke recorded 30 saves to help Oliver Ames edge out Taunton. Junior Noah Isleib scored his first career goal while sophomore Jack Corey scored once. Junior Sean McCarthy recorded two assists while junior Jack Perron, sophomores Matt Lawson and Jake Cunningham, and freshman Patrick DeLoughrey each had one assist.

Stoughton vs. Cardinal Spellman, 0 – FinalFour different players lit the lamp as Stoughton skated to a shutout win over Cardinal Spellman. Aidan Obrock, Joe McNulty, Colin Alessi and Sean Farley each scored once for the Black Knights while Chris Andrade posted the shutout in goal.










Girls Hockey
Canton, 0 vs. Norwood, 3 – Final

Franklin, 2 vs. Dedham, 1 – FinalFranklin picked up its second win over Dedham in the past two weeks, this time with a 2-1 decision in regulation. Julia Flynn and Shaw Downing (from Maggie McCaffrey) scored for the Panthers while Izzy Brown had a great game in net to earn the win.

Stoughton/Sharon, 2 vs. Old Rochester, 8 – FinalMolly Corvino and Zoe Bangs each scored for the Black Knights while Ava Buckley registered an assist on each goal but Stoughton fell to Old Rochester.

Wrestling
Canton, 24 @ Silver Lake, 51 – FinalAll four of Canton’s wins on the day were by pinfall, each earning six points but the Bulldogs fell on the road to Silver Lake. Yurii Leskiv (113, 2:14), Max Kupferman (126, 0:34), Cillian Collins (182, 1:52), and Ruairi Ritson (195, 4:28) each won for Canton.

Panther Invitational (Foxboro, King Philip), 10:00 (@ Whitman-Hanson) – King Philip had five finalists and two individual champions to take first place in the Panther Invitational held at Whitman-Hanson. The Warriors had a total of 140.5 points while second place Milton had 131 points. Foxboro had 47 points. Hunter Hastings won all three of his matches by pinfall, including the 195-pound championship with a fall in 1:52 in the championship round. After a bye in the first round, heavyweight Dan Nineve won the semifinal by pin in 1:37 and then took the championship with a pin in 3:24. Sam Debaggis (126), Colby Cloutier (152), and William Conniff (170) each finished second for the Warriors while Lodan Wells (120) took third and Michael Gorman (145) took fourth. Foxboro’s Maxwell Kornbluth (160) and Ryan Addeche (170) finished third while Adam Addeche (120) and Sebastian Zerpa Aguilar (285) finished fourth.

Norton Quad (Mansfield, Taunton) – Taunton senior captain Christian Balmain became just the second wrestler in program history to reach 100 wins and the Tigers went 3-0 on the day at the Norton Quad, beating the host Lancers (50-24), Mansfield (61-15), and Quabbin (72-12). Balmain, who wrestles at 152, earned a forfeit win, a major decision (12-4) over Norton, and a pinfall in 1:20 against Mansfield. Michael Leskoski (106), Xavier Sandoval (138), Ethan Harris (182), Avery Justa (195) also went 3-0 on the day while Ryan Jones (113), Brandon Mendes (126), Anthony Vieira (132), Ben Mandeville (145), John Mandeville (160), Charlie Rabel (170), Peter Ye (220), and Robert Tran (285) each won twice.

St. John’s Prep Super Quad (North Attleboro) – North Attleboro picked up three wins on the day, pinning down victories over Bridgewater-Raynham (42-36), Marblehead/Swampscott (55-24), and Beverly (51-24). Three Rocketeers won all three of their matches with Braxton Ferro (132) and Christopher Galligan (138) each grabbing three pinfalls and Jaad Ismail (170) had two pins and one decision. Tanner Ferguson (120), Tyler Tobias (126), Masen Oyola (145), Benjamin Lodi (160), Greg Berthiaume (182), Austin Dean (195), and Keysun Wise (285) each won twice for North.

Sharon Quad (Sharon) – Sharon picked up three wins at home, beating Belmont (57-24), Concord-Carlisle (48-27), and Catholic Memorial (54-18). Vehnil Rangaraman, Adam Landstein, Cam Birnbaum, Nick Varvak, Aaron Cashton, Philip Varvak, and Cormac Horlbogen all went undefeated for the Eagles on the day.
