Mansfield senior Abigail Scott has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Feb. 5 through Feb. 11. Scott is the 21st player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2023-24 school year and eighth in the winter season.
Scott continued her outstanding season with a pair of wins at the annual Hockomock League Indoor Track Championships held last week at the TRACK at New Balance. Helping the Hornets to second place in the team standings, Scott set a new meet record in the 55-meter dash and was part of the 4×200 relay team.
“I’m really proud of Abby’s performance at Hock’s last week,” said Mansfield head coach Kevin Butera. “After struggling at the Coaches Invite the previous week, Abby rebounded with one of her best practice weeks ever and was able to put together an incredible performance to break the previous school record in the 55M twice (7.25 prelim and 7.21 finals) and also helped the 4x200M smash their season best by three seconds. Abby rises to the occasion during the postseason so we are looking forward to see how fast she can go for the rest of the Indoor season and Outdoors.”
Scott got her meet off to a terrific start in the 55-meter dash, setting a new meet record with a time of 7.21 seconds, nearly 0.06 faster than the next closest runners. In the 4×200 relay, Scott teamed with Chloe Guthrie, Elyssa Buchanan, and Olivia Barry for a winning time of 1:45.45, which was more than a second faster than the team from Franklin. It was the fastest time in the state this year, according to the team’s X account. Scott’s two wins helped the Hornets amass 76 points, which was good for second place behind Franklin and six points above Davenport champ Oliver Ames.
