Oliver Ames junior Mitchell Callender has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Feb. 7 through Feb. 13. Callender is the 23rd athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year and the ninth in the winter season.
Callender continued his impressive junior campaign by securing the Div. 3 title in the shot put last week. His throw of 60’ 4-1/2” was nearly 10 feet better than the second-place finisher and was the best throw in any of the five divisions. This follows Callender’s meet record-setting throw at the Hockomock Championships (61’ 09.50”).
“Mitchell dominated the regular season, posting the best throw in the Hockomock League every single week of competition,” said OA head coach Kyle Sousa. “Mitchell is exceptionally good at noticing his technique and making adjustments, and that was key to his consistency this year. He stepped up to the pressure of championship season, capturing the Division 3 State title. Countless hours in the circle have really paid off for Mitchell this season.”
All six of Callender’s throws at the D3 meet would have won the title, but he saved his best attempt for last. After hitting 59’ 3-3/4” with his third attempt, Callender went more than a foot better on his sixth throw to seal the title. He was the only D3 athlete to surpass 51 feet. Across all the divisions, Attleboro’s Noah Williams had the next best throw when he hit 56’ 7-1/4” to win the D1 title. Williams finished second to Callender at the Hock meet.
