Taunton senior pitcher Sam Lincoln has been named the 2024 HockomockSports.com Softball Player of the Year. Lincoln had a dominant final season with the Tigers, lifting them to the outright Kelley-Rex division title for the first time since 2021, a perfect 25-0 record, and to a fourth consecutive Div. 1 state championship. She was selected as the Hockomock League MVP and the Gatorade Player of the Year.
“Sam was absolutely in control from start to finish this season,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry. “She just came up with big pitch after big pitch, not only living up to the giant expectations on her shoulders this spring but exceeding them. With Sam in the circle, even the best teams knew that the margin of error was so slim because she was always locked in.”
Lincoln took her performances to another level this season. She struck out 284 batters in 133 innings and finished with a minuscule ERA of 0.21. The Texas Tech commit was lights out in the playoffs, allowing three runs in five games and recording shutouts in each of the final two games to seal the state championship. She finished her career with 550 strikeouts, which is second all-time at Taunton. Although most of the focus was on Lincoln’s pitching, she was also a big part of the Taunton lineup. She batted 0.393 this season with a 0.493 OBP. Lincoln had six doubles and four homers, driving in 21.
“I am so proud of all the work she has put in to increase her velocity, command, and effectively using her off-speed,” said Taunton coach Michell Raposo. “She was confident on the mound and knew she had a strong defense behind her, so she just relaxed and got us out of a few tough spots this year.”
Lincoln is the fourth Taunton player to earn this award in the past six years that it has been given out. She joins Kelsey White (2019), Kya Enos (2018), and Aimee Kistner (2016) as the Tigers to receive this honor. All but two of the recipients of this award have been pitchers, including Milford’s Shannon Smith (2013), North Attleboro’s Meg Colleran (2014), King Philip’s Kali Magane (2015), White, and Kistner.
Honorable Mentions: Ali Gill (King Philip), Bella Bourque (Taunton), Aniyah Bailey (Taunton)
Please note that the HockomockSports.com awards are selected by our staff. They are completely separate from the Hockomock League All-Stars. Players are listed alphabetically by position.
HockomockSports First Team
Aniyah Bailey – Taunton – Catcher
Taunton freshman catcher Aniyah Bailey wasted no time making her mark in the lineup, coming up with an incredible debut season to help the Tigers win the outright league title for the first time since 2021 and win the Div. 1 state championship for the fourth straight year. The HockomockSports.com Underclassman of the Year (see below) led the Tigers with an average of 0.551, an OBP of 0.607, seven home runs, 40 RBI, and 38 runs scored. She also added nine doubles and six triples. Bailey was selected as an all-star by the league’s coaches. Taunton coach Michelle Raposo said, “She came up clutch in the regular season to give us the go-ahead [run]/walk off win. She continued to help us score runs and most importantly she kept Sam [Lincoln] calm throughout the postseason. She’s going to be great to watch the next few years.”
Sarah Boozang – Franklin – Infield
Franklin junior first baseman Sarah Boozang had another impressive season as one of the league’s top offensive threats, helping the Panthers book their place in the Div. 1 state tournament. Starting all 20 games for Franklin this spring, she had an OBP of 0.568, slugged 0.814, and only struck out five times in 70 plate appearances. Boozang also stole eight bases. Bourque was selected as an all-star by the league’s coaches. Taunton coach Michelle Raposo said, “She continued to put the bat on the ball and help us offensively, coming up with clutch hits. Defensively she was able to take away the bunt and forced teams to create offense otherwise.”
Ava Kelley – King Philip – Infield
King Philip senior third baseman Ava Kelley closed out her varsity career by helping the Warriors return to the state title game for the first time since 2016. Kelley batted 0.395 this season with 34 hits, including the 100th of her career. She drove in 23 and scored 33 runs, including the game-winning run in the 10th inning of the Div. 1 state semifinal against top-seed Wachusett. The Endicott College-commit was selected as an all-star by the league’s coaches. KP coach Kate Fallon-Comeau said, “Ava was the most steady, reliable, and consistent player on our team this season. She is a dangerous hitter with a violent swing that can do damage any time she’s at the plate.”

Covel also stole 12 bases and had a 0.967 fielding percentage in center. She was selected as an all-star by the league’s coaches. OA coach Lindsey Allison said, “Crystyliah is not afraid to lay out for balls, as a matter of fact, she did so almost every game in order to help us have the success we had this year. She had a hitter’s mentality and did whatever it took to get it done for her team, and when she was on base, we were usually scoring runs.”

She was also one of the most powerful hitters with the most home runs in the Hock. Her stats speak for themselves and she has the ability to change the game with just one swing, she’s such a clutch player!”
Emma Callahan – Foxboro – Utility
Foxboro junior Emma Callahan produced another excellent all-around season for the Warriors, helping them win a share of a second straight Davenport division title and book a spot in the Div. 3 Sweet Sixteen. It was the first time in 50 years that the Warriors won back-to-back league titles. Callahan led off for the Warriors and batted 0.343 with 24 hits and 27 runs scored. In addition to playing second base, Callahan stepped into the circle to win a couple of crucial games during the team’s title run. Walsh was 15-3 this spring, striking out 186 batters in 107.2 innings and finishing with an ERA of 1.63. Walsh was lights out during KP’s playoff run, including a 10-inning, one-run, 14-K performance against top seed Wachusett in the Final Four. She was selected as an all-star by the league’s coaches. KP coach Kate Fallon-Comeau said, “Even though she’s just a sophomore, McCoy was one of the best pitchers in the entire state. She has the ability to battle through tough situations and had some really gutsy performances throughout the year, and she was a major reason why we reached the state championship game!”
HockomockSports Second Team

KP coach Kate Fallon-Comeau said, “Maddie was solid both offensively and defensively for us this year. She has called just about every pitch in her 124 innings of work this season. Maddie is a big reason why our pitching staff is so successful.”

Mansfield coach Lori Letendre said, “As one of the senior captains this year, Liv led by example and earned the respect of her teammates and coaches. She showed great range at shortstop and made some exceptional plays in the field. Offensively, we could always count on Liv to come up with a big hit when we needed it.”
Devon Morris – Oliver Ames – Infield

She batted an impressive 0.533 with runners in scoring position and only struck out seven times in 73 plate appearances this spring. Morris was selected as an all-star by the league’s coaches. OA coach Lindsey Allison said, “Devon is a junior captain, on a team which there were seven seniors to choose from. This is just a true testament to the kind of teammate and player she is. Her leadership both on the field, in the batter’s box, and the intangibles she offers to her team to help them find success are all reasons she deserves to be selected.”
Lola Ronayne – Attleboro – Infield
Attleboro freshman shortstop Lola Ronayne made an instant impact for the Bombardiers, giving them a powerful addition to the lineup as they made a run for third place in the Kelley-Rex division and nearly upset eventual state finalist King Philip in the opening round of the playoffs. Foxboro junior pitcher Vittoria Cuscia put together her third impressive season as the team’s starter, one of the main reasons for the Warriors winning a second straight Davenport division title (for the first time in 50 years) and reaching the Div. 3 Sweet Sixteen. Despite missing a couple of weeks with an injury, Cuscia went 12-5 with a 2.02 ERA during the regular season. In the opening round of the state tournament, Cuscia threw a three-hitter to help the Warriors shut out Danvers and advance to challenge eventual state champ Dighton-Rehoboth. Mansfield sophomore pitcher Dani Jameson had a breakout season in the circle and at the plate this season, helping the Hornets to 13 wins (their most since 2017) and a return to the state tournament. Jameson pitched all 138 innings for the Hornets, allowing an opposing batting average of just 0.255 and an ERA of 3.40. She struck out 91 batters. Jameson also batted 0.323 with 20 hits, six RBI, and 18 runs scored, helping her own cause at the plate. Mansfield coach Lori Letendre said, “Dani pitched every inning this season and kept batters off balance with her mix of pitches. She was a big part of the success of our season. Offensively Dani’s bat came alive with some big hits in clutch situations.”
Taunton freshman catcher Aniyah Bailey has been named the 2024 HockomockSports.com Softball Underclassman of the Year. Bailey debuted behind the plate and in the heart of the order this spring and emerged as the team’s best power hitter during the Tigers’ run to the outright Kelley-Rex division title, a perfect 25-0 season, and the program’s fourth consecutive Div. 1 state championship.
“Coming in as a freshman and catching the Gatorade Player of the Year is a lot of pressure but Aniyah always looked like she was just enjoying herself,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry. “She has a smooth, powerful swing and always seemed to hit the ball hard somewhere. It’s a crowded field of underclassmen in the Hock, but Aniyah stood out because, whether she was at the plate or behind it, she was at the heart of Taunton’s title run.”
Bailey led the Tigers with a 0.551 average and 0.607 OBP. One of the league’s top power hitters, Bailey finished with a team-high seven homers and 40 RBI, and was tied for the team lead in runs scored with 38 (tied with classmate Bella Bourque). She also added nine doubles and six triples. Defensively, Bailey showed great composure as the battery mate for Taunton ace Sam Lincoln, working with the senior pitcher to attack opposing lineups and to make adjustments mid-game.
Taunton coach Michelle Raposo said, “She came up clutch in the regular season to give us the go-ahead [run]/walk off win. She continued to help us score runs and most importantly she kept Sam [Lincoln] calm throughout the postseason. She’s going to be great to watch the next few years.”
This is the fourth time in the past five seasons that a Taunton player has won this award. Bailey joins Jaime Brown (2017) and Hanna Aldrich (2018 and 2019) as Tigers to be honored as Underclassman of the Year. She is also the third freshman to earn this award along with Aldrich (2018) and Milford’s Emily Piergustavo (2017) and is the first catcher.
Honorable Mentions: Ali Gill (King Philip), Bella Bourque (Taunton), McCoy Walsh (King Philip), Jenna Callahan (Attleboro)
Coach of the Year – Michelle Raposo, Taunton
Taunton head coach Michelle Raposo has been named the 2024 HockomockSports.com Softball Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to the outright Kelley-Rex title for the first time since 2021, to a perfect 25-0 record, and to the program’s fourth consecutive Div. 1 state championship (and her second in as many years as coach).
“Taunton was the team to beat all season,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry. “A game against the Tigers was like a final for most teams, but Taunton never wilted. Michelle instilled a belief in her team and a togetherness that could stand up to being the target for every team in the state. The Tigers embraced being the best. Michelle had them focused and not only did they accomplish their goal of another title, but they completed a perfect season.
The Tigers finished 25-0, including three wins against league rival King Philip. After sharing the Kelley-Rex crown last spring, Taunton took the league title outright this year. The Tigers allowed just 16 runs this season, by far the fewest in the league, and scored 252 runs themselves, which was 60 more runs than the Warriors in second. They allowed three runs in five playoff games, recording shutouts in each of the last two, and outscored teams 46-3 in the postseason. This was all accomplished with only two seniors in the regular starting lineup and three freshmen.
Raposo is the second straight Taunton coach to win this award and third overall. She follows Carrie Consalvi (2022) and Dave Lewry (2014 and 2015). The award has gone to a Kelley-Rex division coach in each of the past three seasons. Other Kelley-Rex winners include Milford’s Brian Macchi (2013) and Franklin’s Kate Fallon-Comeau (2019).
Honorable Mentions: Kate Fallon-Comeau (King Philip), Mark Homer (Attleboro), Lindsey Allison (Oliver Ames), Mark Maguire (Foxboro)
