Milford junior Aidan Wilde has been selected as the Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for April 9th through April 15th. Wilde is the 26th athlete selected for the 2016-2017 school year and the second selection during the spring season. He is the first baseball player and fourth Milford athlete to be selected this school year.

Wilde, who was named the Underclassman of the Year as a freshman in 2015 and twice been named to the site’s first team, had a strong second week of the season, helping Milford go 3-1 during a busy stretch and get above .500 for the first time this spring.

“Aidan has proved he is more than just a hitter,” said Milford coach Paul Pellegrini. “He’s a complete player….more importantly, a team player.”

Pellegrini continued, “We were looking for him to be a closer but with some team injuries, he has been put into the starting role and has just produced. The funny thing is his real position is catcher. But Aidan will play wherever the team needs him. That is the type of kid he is.”

After a tough loss to Stoughton to open the week, Wilde got Milford going with a pair of hits, two RBI, and two runs scored in a win against Canton that started a streak of three wins in three days for the Hawks. On Thursday, Wilde threw a two-hitter against Franklin, allowing only one run and striking out seven. The following day, Wilde went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs scored in a big win over Hopedale.

The Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, is selected by the staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at midnight. There may be a poll posted on every Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
