Canton senior Alec Ragusa has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Sept. 4 through Sept. 10. Ragusa is the first player selected for the 2017-18 school year. In 2015, his brother Jake was also named a Player of the Week for Canton football.
Ragusa was a dominant force for the Bulldogs on Friday night and helped Canton to a 42-7, season-opening win against Randolph at World War II Veterans Memorial Field. The senior linebacker finished the game with eight tackles, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, as the Bulldogs dominated the visitors.
“We wanted to play with a lot of emotion and passion on Friday and Alec, being one of our captains and leaders, went out and did just that and I feel the rest of our kids followed his lead,” said Canton coach Dave Bohane.
Ragusa also played running back and scored three of the Bulldogs’ six touchdowns, as Canton took advantage of the great field position that the defense caused to put up 42 points. He scored on runs of three yards and twice of four yards in the first half, as Canton jumped out to a 35-0 lead by halftime.
The Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, is selected by the HockomockSports.com staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at midnight. There may be a poll posted on every Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
