King Philip freshman Brad Guden has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Jan. 3 through Jan. 9. Guden is the seventh player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2020-21 school year and first in the winter season.
Guden made an instant impact in the first two games of his varsity career. The rookie forward scored three goals and recorded five points to help the Warriors open the season with a pair of wins against Mansfield at the Foxboro Sports Center.
In the season opener, Guden had a hand in all four of the KP goals. He assisted on the opener by Conor Cooke and, after Mansfield had tied the game, scored his first career goal to put the Warriors back in front. He got his second assist on James Boldy’s goal, which turned out to be the game-winner, and then sealed the victory with his second goal of the afternoon.
Guden’s hot streak continued a couple days later in the rematch. Mansfield jumped out to a lead with a pair of first period goals, but Boldy scored early in the second to cut the lead in half. Four minutes later, Guden got free in the slot and picked the corner with a wrister to tie the game. Shaun Fitzpatrick would net the winner later in the third period to complete the sweep of the Hornets.
The Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, is selected by the HockomockSports.com staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at midnight. There may be a poll posted on every Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
