Sharon will have a new face on the sidelines this fall as Ben Shuffain takes over at the helm of the Eagles’ football program.
Shuffain, who graduated from Sharon in 1999, is coming off a terrific season with Carver. In his second year in charge, Shuffain guided the Crusaders to the Division 8 state championship. He was named the Boston Globe’s Coach of the Year for Division 8.
“Sharon football has always been a passion for me and I feel very fortunate to be able to lead the program I grew up playing for,” Shuffain told HockomockSports.com. “I’m looking forward to getting started and can’t wait to be back in the maroon and gold.”
The Eagles rejoined Hockomock League play this past season after a two-year hiatus that saw Sharon play a non-league schedule. Former Eagles’ head coach Dave Morse, who stepped down after the season, had been at the helm since the 2011 season and guided Sharon to its first and only state title with a 12-3 win over Wayland in the 2012 Division3 EMass Super Bowl.
Shuffain played both football and baseball while at Sharon, and went on to coach there before serving in the Navy. He went on to coach at rival Oliver Ames as well as at the collegiate level at Stonehill College. He coached varsity baseball at Canton for three seasons. This past season at Carver, Shuffain guided the Crusaders to their first South Shore League Tobin Division title since 2000, according to The Patriot Ledger.
