2023 Hockomock League Boys Soccer Preview
Attleboro
2022 Record: 12-5-3
Coach: Peter Pereira
With only four returning starters and the majority of its offensive production gone from the roster, legendary head coach Peter Pereira knows this could be a bit of a building year for his Bombardiers.
Attleboro lost four of its five leading scorers, with three gone to graduation and leading scorer and potential MVP candidate Alex Vecchioli electing for MLS Next. That means Pereira will start the season by leaning heavily on his returning starters, and he’s got a good group of them. Senior Tyler Rocchio returns for his third season starting in net and is one of the best keepers in the league while senior Zack Diffenderfer will be the veteran among the defenders. There’s some real good skill in the midfield with seniors Luke Hagopian and Billy Badger, who both had really strong 2022 seasons.
With departure comes opportunity so Pereira has been looking for some players to step into the lineup. Senior midfielder Kyle Neuendorf and forwards Nick Ticas and Clay Tyler are all good candidates to see more time after making an impact for the Bombardiers a year ago while senior Josh Codella is another reliable defensive choice. Junior Lucas Pereira and freshman Jaedyn Beland are candidates for roles along the back four, junior Corvengdjimy Thomas and sophomore Drew Ribeiro are looking to bolster Attleboro’s attack, and sophomore Mason Prive is in the mix in the midfield.
“Attleboro boys are going to have a building year since we only have four starters back from last year,” Pereira said. “After losing five players [from the program] to MLS next, we have a lot of work to do.”

Canton
2022 Record: 9-7-4
Coach: Danny Erickson
After graduating some dozen seniors from last year’s team that reached the state tournament, head coach Danny Erickson’s 2023 squad will feature plenty of new faces.
The Bulldogs boast some returners in key spots like senior captain Nick Ruggeri, who had a solid year in net for Canton during the 2022 campaign. In the field, seniors Matt DeVito and Zaza Francoeur along with junior Owen Morrissey have the most varsity experience, and they are the key players that Erickson will be relying on as new faces are incorporated into the lineup. Francoeur was tied for second on the team in assists last year with eight, Morrissey was fourth on the team in points with four goals and two assists, and DeVito chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Erickson is looking for senior Connor Harney to add energy and explosiveness for the Dogs this fall while sophomore James Howard is expected to add some size, grit, and a high soccer IQ to the middle of the pitch.
“We will certainly be a team that is looking to grow throughout the season,” Erickson said. “A true rebuild that we are all up for and excited about.”
Foxboro
2022 Record: 2-13-2
Coach: George Argyrou & Colin Meiselman
Foxboro begins a new chapter in program history with co-head coaches George Argyrou and Colin Meiselman coming over from Wayland to take over the program. And the new chapter has a lot of promise after the Warriors had a very successful offseason.
Foxboro took home the championship in August at the Forward Thinking summer league out of Norton, which features a handful of Hock squads. Argyrou and Meiselman have been impressed by the strong senior leadership thus far as they look to bounce back from last year’s two-win season. Senior captain Ryan Cotter is back in net after a breakout junior campaign in which his efforts earned him Hockomock League All Star honors. The Warriors midfield will have some veteran leadership as well with captains Ryan Flaherty and Pradyu Gubbala back in the mix.
While the Warriors look to try and fill some holes in the lineup, the new coaches are leaning on the seniors to lead the way. Nate Cote and Jake Anello are two options for minutes on defense, Ian Foley can play either in the midfield or in the back, and Jack Sullivan is vying for minutes on top in the attack.
“[We] are impressed with how the seniors have helped build chemistry over the first week of the preseason,” Meiselman said. “Their ability to bring in new members to the program will be key as we get into the regular season.”
franklin
2022 Record: 16-4-1 (Kelley-Rex division champions)
Head Coach: Fran Bositis
With over a dozen experienced returners back this season, the reigning Kelley-Rex champions have a good chance of making it two in a row, and maybe even more.
Hall of Fame coach Fran Bositis has 13 players back who played a significant role on last year’s team that won 16 games and its first Kelley-Rex division title since the program won four in a row from 2011-2014. With the talent on the roster this year, it’s possible we see another run of success atop the division. There’s experience all over the field but maybe none more than senior center back Rex Cinelli, a standout defender who has anchored Franklin’s defense for the past couple of seasons. Senior Andrew O’Neill had a strong junior season up front (four goals, six assists), an area of the field the Panthers could be very dangerous with fellow senior Hansy Jacques (seven goals, two assists) back and the return of senior Sean O’Leary, who was a target forward as a sophomore but took last season off.
Senior Noah Cain is a confident and skilled player back in the middle of the pitch again this year. Seniors Bradley Herndon, Gustavo Martinez, and Michael Fernandez-Martin all offer good speed on the wings and can create a lot of offense going forward. Juniors Wyatt Herndon, Matt Honekamp, and Garrett Scagliarini (four goals, four assists) all earned valuable minutes a year ago and should be impact players as Franklin tries to repeat as division champs. In net, seniors Paxton Rosen and Jack Perlman — who both saw some time last year due to injuries — have had a healthy battle in net and should both be involved in the lineup this year.
“I feel the strength of our team without question will be our senior leadership and our athleticism,” Bositis said. “We have a solid group of athletes and we are all excited about the upcoming season.”
King Philip
2022 Record: 7-11-0
Coach: Mike O’Neill
The Warriors had a lot of juniors and sophomores earn valuable minutes throughout last season and head coach Mike O’Neill is hoping that youth movement will pay off this year.
King Philip boasts over a dozen players returning to the pitch with varsity experience at a variety of positions. It all starts with the Warriors’ four senior captains: Will Bowen, Tommy Lomuscio, Neel McGrath, and Dermott Amorim. Both Bowen and Lomuscio are experienced and dangerous forwards that will give KP a veteran presence out on the wings, McGrath can play just about anywhere in the back, and Amorim orchestrates play from the midfield. Senior Ryan Keller can play both center back and in the midfield, junior PJ Sullivan is back at center back after an impressive sophomore season, and junior Sayan Panda solidifies the defense from his defensive center mid spot.
In goal, the Warriors have two accomplished seniors who are competing for playing time, pushing one another each day in practice in Jake Van Hoesen and Alex Nathan. Having two senior options in goal on top of a veteran defensive group anchored by McGrath, Sullivan, and Keller gives KP a reliable foundation in the back. Sophomore Marco Amorim had an impressive summer and his speed could make an immediate impact offensively for KP.
“It will be another challenging and competitive season in the Hockomock League,” O’Neill said. “I am excited to see what this group of players can do this year.”
Mansfield
2022 Record: 5-11-3
Coach: Steve Sheridan
A mix of key returners and an influx of new faces are just two ingredients to Mansfield head coach Steve Sheridan’s recipe for success this year. The key to putting it all together for the Hornets will be staying healthy.
Sheridan has familiar veteran faces in key spots all over the field and that gives the Hornets a solid foundation to build off of. Senior captain Derek McGrath and junior Matt Sullivan are reliable defenders that will anchor what is traditionally a stingy back four. In the midfield, the junior trio of Tyler Znoj, Cooper Austin, and Marco Geminiani all played valuable minutes a year ago and will look to take on bigger roles this time out. Up front, senior captain Sam Oliveira will be tasked with orchestrating the offense for Mansfield.
The new faces that are looking to give Mansfield a boost in the midfield include senior Jordan O’Connor, junior Amro Hosny, and sophomores Brandon Gardner and Dominic Nassifc, while senior Ben Grella aims to bolster the Hornets’ defense. There has been a healthy competition for minutes in goal as senior Ty Duffin, who missed last season with an injury, is back challenging sophomore Troy Lasbury-Casey.
“If we can get and stay healthy, we’ll be tough competition for anyone,” Sheridan said. “With an influx of new faces at key positions, how quickly they gel together will set the tone for us, both offensively and defensively.”
Milford
2022 Record: 12-6-2
Coach: Antonio Pinto
Milford has been in the mix for the Kelley-Rex crown for a good stretch now and although there might be a good amount of new faces in the lineup, expect the Scarlet Hawks to challenge for the crown again this year.
The Scarlet Hawks’ four-year run as a division champ came to an end last year but only by three points. Replacing the likes of Eastern Mass. All Star Nick Ribeiro and Hock all star and speedy striker Eduardo Santana will be tough, Milford has shown their ability to reload over the past couple of seasons. Head coach Antonio Pinto will lean heavily on his experience, especially to start the year. One of the most veteran players in the league is Milford senior Nate Dinis, who has proven over the past three years that he can play anywhere on the back line; his leadership will be key in the back for the Hawks.
With Ribeiro, Santana, and Arthur Tome — Milford’s three leading scorers — the Hawks lost 25 goals between the three. That means there will be a lot of opportunities for new faces to step up. Andre Baiano Moura emerged as a top option during last year as a sophomore, playing at the six. Sophomores Johnny Castro (two goals, six assists) and Danny Da Silva (three goals, four assists) both had strong debut seasons a year ago and could factor into Milford’s offense more this season. Senior Jackson Phieffer and freshman Robbie Cappeli are both in contention for the starting spot in goal.
“We will hope to do our best in our attempt to qualify for the state tournament in this very difficult league,” Pinto said.
North Attleboro
2022 Record: 8-8-3
Coach: Geoff Burgess
Head coach Geoff Burgess returns to the bench after a year away coaching the girls and he’s hoping his Rocketeers can get back to the state tournament and make a run this year.
The Rocketeers lost a dozen players to graduation including their top three scorers (Carson Dameron, Givany Carney, Zach Smahi) but this year’s squad boasts another strong senior group. Burgess has leadership in key parts of the field with senior captain Bryce Newth leading the offense, senior captain Owen Goeller starting in net, and senior Kaden Burns — the team’s leading returner for goals — will anchor the midfield. While Burgess leans on his veterans in his return to the squad, he also expects some newer names to contribute including Logan Shiner-McCracken, Jeremy Carter, and Tyler Dameron.
“Our hope is that we can qualify for the state tournament and make a run,” Burgess said. “I think we have a dangerous attack and a solid defense backed up by a quality goalkeeper. These are usually the elements needed for success in the Hockomock League. This is a pretty tight-knit group of kids and our culture this season has been really positive. I am hopeful that this could be a great year for us.”
Oliver Ames
2022 Record: 20-1-2 (Division 2 State Champions)
Coach: John Barata
The target on Oliver Ames is as big as ever entering the 2023 campaign. The Tigers completed a dream season with a wild comeback in the final moments to capture the Division 2 state championship over Hopkinton. Although OA has plenty of talent returning under John Barata, there were key departures as well.
All American Casey Milliken and standout striker Andrew Martins have elected to play MLS NEXT while starters Luke Churchill and Ryan Linhares will miss time to deal with injuries. Add in the graduating of a talented senior class, including starting center backs Hector Bucio and Jake Williams, and Barata will have his hands full shaping a new team eager to prove itself. There are still plenty of positives though with returners Joey Carney, Diego Rivera, Craig Churchill, Jackson Mercieri, and Drew Hall. Carney is one of the most established stars in the league and will be a focal point of OA’s offense.
Hall is back in net but is being pushed in practice by sophomore Zach Gilson. With the departures comes opportunity and Barata is looking for new names to take their chance. Seniors Braeden Blass, Mikey Morias, Josh Ventura, and Chris Davis are all looking to make an impact for the Tigers this season. Sophomore Nicky Babanikas has emerged along the backline so far this preseason.
“We are looking forward to having all these players have a chance to step up and lead!” Barata said. “With only having five players returning from last year’s team, we have a lot of opportunity for players to step up. They are a terrific group of young men…they love the game, they work hard and they have a desire to succeed. Our goal is to get better each and every day! We want to get a few wins and try to get into the MIAA tournament.”
Sharon
2022 Record: 7-7-6
Coach: Scott Nathan
Coming off a playoff appearance in 2022, the Eagles are eager to have another competitive season and get back to the state tournament.
Sharon scored a playoff win over Hock rival North Attleboro last year, a season in which they never lost a game that they scored in. The challenge for the Eagles was finding that consistent scoring though, scoring just 18 goals on the season. With a strong core of returning players in the attack, Sharon is aiming to improve on that. Senior captain Mateo Martinez will be one of the catalysts for the offense and he’ll be supported by the returners James Jennings, Aneesh Prasad, Diego Martinez, and Vlad Shkolnikov, giving the Eagles some good firepower going forward.
Defensively, head coach Scott Nathan has another cornerstone of his roster to lean on. Senior captain Ilan Yampolsky will anchor a unit that graduated some top talent including longtime center back Rhys Davis. But having a senior-laden defensive group will certainly help with seniors Rick Das and Zach Connors giving the Eagles a strong foundation.
“I love this league, it’s among the strongest in the state,” Nathan said. “To have the opportunity to play against so many quality teams…get really competitive games week in and week out. The boys and I can’t wait to get started!”
Stoughton
2022 Record: 5-10-3
Coach: Ruben Teixeira
Stoughton took a big step forward last year with five wins and with a good amount of experience on the roster, the Black Knights are aiming to continue that upward trajectory.
Ruben Teixeira begins his second season at the helm after leading the Knights close to a playoff berth last year. Stoughton finished 36th in the MIAA power rankings, just four spots out of a spot in the state tournament. A lot of the players on this year’s roster have played on varsity for multiple seasons and have improved each season. There are 10 seniors on the roster plus a half dozen juniors so Teixeira has a lot of experience to lean on.
The midfield is anchored by senior Kyle Grant, who is a four-year starter for the Black Knights. A box-to-box midfielder, Grant is all over the field and can be very dangerous going forward as seen by his eight goals and five assists last season. Junior captain Alex Kozak is another crafty player that will help orchestrate the Stoughton offense this season. Evan Khang is Stoughton’s other four-year varsity player and had an impressive season a year ago. Senior captain Joe McSweeney anchors the defense, which is solidified by returning starting keeper Ben Shirey.
“We have a good solid crew returning,” Teixeira said. “We’re a bit more experienced and are excited for the year.”
Taunton
2022 Record: 3-13-2
Coach: Jesue Lopes
The Tigers have a somewhat new face on the bench this year in Jesue Lopes but there are plenty of familiar names returning to Taunton’s lineup this year.
Lopes is a former player and assistant coach with the program so he knows how competitive it is and how difficult it is to win in the Hockomock League. The advantage he has this year is a veteran group of players eager to find success this upcoming season. There are a dozen returning players from last year’s group, including both senior goalie Jack Buffington and Sebastian Darosa. Both played last year and have had a healthy competition for minutes this year. Another key piece back is leading scorer Javonte Fernandes, who can play just about anywhere on the pitch. Last season, he was one of the most dangerous strikers in the league and finished with 11 goals and three assists.
Senior Devin Poe is coming off a breakout junior campaign and will be joined by returners Khrystian Ferreira, Sebastian Freitas, Joshua Letourneau, and Lennon Rodriguez in the midfield. Junior Xavier Machado emerged as one of the most skilled defensive players last year he will be joined in the back by veteran Ian Robicheau and seniors Ethan DeSousa and Neil Martin.
“This is an older team and I am eager to see how they perform this season,” Lopes said.=

Boys Soccer
Canton, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 7 – Final – Oliver Ames built a two-goal lead in the first half then poured in five more inside the final 20 minutes of the game to earn a big win over Canton. Casey Milliken opened the scoring with his 19th goal of the season and then set up Mirray DaSilva for his fifth goal of the season to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. DaSilva added one more in the second half while Andrew Martins and Braeden Blass each scored twice. Milliken added two assists while Joey Carney, Diego Rivera, and Jackson Macomber each had one.
Stoughton, 4 vs. Norwood – Final – After a scoreless first half, Stoughton found the back of the net four times to earn a big win over visiting Norwood. Kyle Grant had a hat trick to lead the Knights and assisted on the other goal, scored by Alex Kozak. Sam Santos set up Grant twice while Matheus Groberio had the other assist.
Girls Soccer
Canton, 4 @ Oliver Ames, 2 – Final – Canton came into Friday having not won in the past five games and the Bulldogs fell behind after just three minutes, but they came storming back behind an Emily McCabe brace to beat the league leaders. Jolie Diaz set up Lucinda Li Cotter for a quick opening goal for the Tigers, but Canton answered with two straight to take the lead. Mekhala Costello equalized with an unassisted goal and Paige Sullivan made it 2-2, assisted by Emma Cahill. Taylor deVos would level the match again from the spot, after Sophia Byron’s corner led to a handball in the box. McCabe scored what turned out to be the game-winner after she drew a foul in the penalty area and converted from the spot. McCabe would seal the win off an assist by Sarah Dempster. It was a high-paced game from start to finish and Canton coach Idris Senyonjo is hoping this can give his team some momentum to finish the regular season.
Attleboro, 0 @ King Philip, 5 – Final – KP scored four times in the second half to seal its third win of the week and move back within a point of first-place Franklin with two league games remaining. Ella Pisani got the opener four minutes into the match, on a feed from Addisyn Lamothe-Vaughn. Dani Lomuscio scored to double the KP lead after 57 minutes and then Heidi Lawrence scored twice within a minute to put the game away. Ally Pochay added an unassisted goal in the final minute. Lamothe-Vaughn finished with two assists, while Lomuscio and Pisani each finished with two points.
Field Hockey
Mansfield vs. Holliston, 3:45

Foxboro, 2 vs. Hopkinton, 0 – Final
Franklin, 2 @ Walpole, 6 – Final – In a battle of two of the top teams in the entire state, Walpole earned a 6-2 win over the Panthers. Franklin thought it scored first when a deflected shot found the back of the net but the shot was ruled dangerous and the goal was wiped off. Walpole took a 1-0 lead into halftime before Kaitlyn Carney found the back of the net to make it 1-1. The Porkers scored back-to-backs but the Panthers got one back before the end of the third when Shaw Downing redirected a shot from Carney to make it 3-2. Walpole won the fourth quarter to pull away with the win.
Volleyball
Oliver Ames, 3 @ Bridgewater-Raynham, 0 – Final – For the second time this season, Oliver Ames earned a win over Bridgewater-Raynham, this time doing it on the road with a 3-0 sweep (25-29, 25-14, 25-22). Sophomore Clare Kavolius dished out 28 assists to set the offense in motion, Sarah Hilliard led the charge with 18 kills, Maddie Homer (19 digs) and Claire O’Rourke (15 digs, four aces) anchored the defense, and junior Isabel Domenico played well at the net.
Canton, 3 vs. Westwood, 2 – Final – After dropping the first set, Canton rallied to win two in a row — including a close third set — and then bounced back in the fifth to capture the match, 3-2 (14-25, 25-22, 28-26, 20-25, 15-10). Freshman Erin Bigham had a breakout match for the Bulldogs, dishing out 32 assists to go along with 12 digs, four aces, and a block. Junior Jess Wright continued her strong all-around play with 20 kills, 16 digs, three blocks, and two aces while sophomore Kaitlin Bigham added five kills and a pair of blocks. Sophomore Zoe Scibelli played well with 22 digs and five aces.
Foxboro, 3 vs. Braintree, 0 – Final – Foxboro defended home court with its second win over Braintree this season, earning a 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-15) win over the Wamps. Juliana Pettigrew and Sami Sloan each had eight kills while Mallorie Meyer added seven kills to pace the offense. Alyssa Cloherty dished out 23 assists to go along with three kills and three aces, and Shannon McElhinney added 16 digs in the win.
King Philip, 3 @ Medway, 0 – Final – King Philip earned a season sweep of Medway, running away with a big 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-11) win on the road over the Mustangs to move to 16-2 on the year. Ava Kelley (eight digs) and Ahunna James (10 digs, seven kills) took care of business defensively while Sami Shore (eight kills), Emily Sawyer (seven kills, four digs, three blocks), and Olivia O’Neil (four kills, two aces) led the offense.

Boys Soccer
Stoughton, 4 @ Foxboro, 3 – Final – Stoughton junior goalie Ben Shirey made a terrific one-handed stop on a point-blank header with just under five minutes to play as the Black Knights prevailed from a see-saw battle with a win on the road over Foxboro. Foxboro opened the scoring in the 11th minute as Pradyu Gubbala finished off a corner kick from John Hollis as the hosts staked an early lead. Stoughton equalized just before the half hour mark as Kyle Grant was fouled in the box and Matheus Groberio buried the pen to make it 1-1. Just minutes later, Groberio pierced the defense with a through ball that Grant was able to run onto and eventually tuck a shot into the corner. The Warriors equalized just before the halftime break when Alex Penders headed in a service from Jack Sullivan. The scoring continued in the second half as the Knights went back in front just a minute into the second half when a free kick from Alex Kozak was flicked on by Groberio in behind the defense and Anthony Damasio finished in alone on the keeper. Penders got his second, latching onto a pass from Timothy Kerzner-Greenwall and finishing at the near post to make it 3-3. Stoughton’s game-winner came in the 54th minute when Joao Marotti buried a header into the corner on a service from Kozak.
Taunton, 0 @ Attleboro, 4 – Final – Attleboro scored a pair of goals in each half to earn a shutout win at home over visiting Taunton. The Bombardiers took the lead just minutes in after Steve Etienne found the back of the net. A long throw from Zachary Diffenderfer was partially cleared by only as far as Lucas Marques, who nodded it back into the mix. Etienne was able to control it off of his chest, turn, and finish from in close for a 1-0 lead. With 10 minutes to go in the first half, Esvin Morales’ free kick from just outside the area smacked the crossbar and bounced out, Marques’ follow up header was denied by the keeper but Billy Badger pounced on the loose ball and buried it to make it 2-0. Taunton had a strong start to the second half but Attleboro cashed in after another failed clearance on a service into the area. This time it was Badger’s corner that bounced in the area and junior Alex Vecchioli was the first to it, burying a half volley for a 3-0 lead. Marques capped the scoring, taking down a centering pass from Morales, driving pass the Tigers’ defense, and finishing past the keeper to make it 4-0.
North Attleboro, 2 @ Franklin, 4 – Final – Franklin saw its two-goal first half lead disappear but the Panthers pounced for two more in the second half to secure two points. It took less than five minutes for Franklin to find the back of the net. Senior Trey Lovell sent a through ball in for junior Hansy Jacques, who was met by the keeper off of his line, and the rebound fell right to sophomore Garrett Scagliarini and he one-timed a shot that just made it across the line for a 1-0 lead. An interception from right back Ben Costa started a counter for Franklin just minutes later; Costa found Scagliarini, who quickly linked up with Andrew O’Neill and he played Hansy in behind the defense. Jacques took one touch to settle and then slid a shot under the oncoming keeper to make it 2-0 in the eighth minute. After a timeout from the visitors, they cut the deficit in half in the 16th minute when Carson Dameron intercept a pass, carried possession forward with speed and found Givany Carney streaking in behind the defense and his one-touch finish beat the keeper. North used a creative set piece in the 60th minute to equalize as Patrick Etienvre played Ethan Almeida short on the ground and his one-timer from just inside the box found the back of the net. Franklin regained the lead with just under 10 minutes to play as Noah Cain played a corner on the ground and Lovell latched onto it with a one-timer that snuck in at the near post. Jacques grabbed his second, running onto a long ball from Matt Honekamp, won a one-on-one battle and finished on a tight angle with five minutes to play.
Milford, 1 @ King Philip, 0 – Final – Milford finally unlocked a defensive-minded King Philip squad with just under 15 minutes to play to earn a key two points on the road with a 1-0 decision. Freshman Johnny Castro played in Eduardo Santana behind the defense and he smashed a shot off the crossbar and in for the lone goal of the game, and his third goal in the past two games.
Mansfield, 0 @ Sharon, 1 – Final – After a scoreless first half, Sharon’s goal just past the midway point of the second half was enough as the Eagles took two points in a win over the visiting Hornets. Diego Martinez set up Adam Eastman, who found the back of the net in the 26th minute for the winner.
Girls Soccer
Attleboro, 3 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – Freshman Tatum O’Brien continued her rich vein of form, scoring twice and assisting on the third goal, to get Attleboro back on track. Alexis Campbell earned the clean sheet with a couple of key saves. Jamie Davies added an assist for the Bombardiers, while Emily Dunlea, Bethany Alves, Ayla Santoro, and Presley Biller did their best to limit the chances for Taunton on a tough, physical game from both teams. Taunton had one of its best performances of the season, celebrating seniors Emily Calderon, Christina Da Costa, and Hayleigh Porter. Porter finished with 12 saves for the Tigers.
Foxboro, 0 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final – Morgan Cook’s penalty kick was the lone goal to lift the Black Knights to the win. Katrina Varnum made eight saves to preserve the clean sheet for Stoughton. Allison Touhey and Lindsey Resnick had strong performances for the Foxboro defense and Erin Foley worked hard in the midfield to try and creat scoring opportunities for the Warriors.
Franklin, 2 @ North Attleboro, 0 – Final – Franklin extended its lead back to three points at the top of the division with a win at North. Norah Anderson got the eventual game-winner, finishing off a pass from Bridget Leo. Leo would then get a goal of her own, assisted by Selene Hammad, to make it 2-0 before the break. Rachel Welch earned the clean sheet in the Franklin goal.
King Philip, 7 @ Milford, 0 – Final – A Heidi Lawrence hat trick led the way for the Warriors in a big road win. Lawrence opened the scoring 16 minutes into the game, finishing a through ball from Dani Lomuscio. Two minutes later, Lomuscio was on the end of a cross from Lawrence to make it 2-0. Lawrence added her second at the midway point of the half, this time assisted by Ally Smith. Ella Pisani wrapped up the scoring in the first half by getting on the end of a deft chip by Addisyn Lamothe-Vaughn. Lawrence completed her hat trick eight minutes into the second half, Lomuscio again providing the killer through ball. Rachel DeFlaminis would add a brace, scoring twice in less than a minute. The first was assisted by Pisani and the second by Eilish McGowen.
Sharon, 0 @ Mansfield, 4 – Final – Mansfield extended its unbeaten run to nine games by scoring four times within 15 minutes midway through the second half. Lyla Nappa, Kara Santos, Stella Moore, and Avery Hawthorne each found the back of the net for the Hornets. Santos, Nappa, Olivia Dunham, and Bridget Hanley had assists.
Field Hockey
Canton, 2 vs. Braintree, 1 – Final – Junior Maggie McCready gave Canton the early lead while freshman Carolyn Schiavo scored the game-winner with less than a minute to play as the Bulldogs took an exciting 2-1 decision over Braintree, a top 10 team in Division 1. McCready’s goal presented Canton with a 1-0 lead before the visiting Wamps leveled the game with a goal in the second quarter. After a nearly scoreless second half, Schiavo found the back of the net with just seconds left to earn the win.
King Philip, 1 @ Uxbridge, 3 – Final – King Philip put up a great right on the road but came up short to undefeated Uxbridge, who sits atop the Division 4 power rankings. Mara Boldy finished off a cross from Leah Santoro for KP’s lone goal while Haley Bright had a great game in net with seven saves.
North Attleboro, 6 @ Milford, 1 – Final – Holding just a one-goal lead at halftime, North Attleboro used a third quarter goal to extend its lead and three goals in the fourth quarter to pull away for good. Caroline Folan, who finished with a hat trick, opened the scoring for the visitors five minutes into the game, finishing off a pass from Emily Burnham off of a corner. Julia Puccio (from Kelsey Thompson) doubled North’s lead at 10:28 of the second quarter but Milford scored with under five minutes to go in the first half to make it 2-1 at the break. Burnham got her first varsity goal with 54 seconds left in the third off of an assist from Ava Spencer. In the fourth, Puccio got her second and Folan scored back-to-back goals in a two-minute span — both assisted by Puccio — to push the lead to 6-1.

Stoughton, 1 @ Attleboro, 2 – Final – Sophomore Alex Vecchioli’s second goal of the game turned out to be the game-winner for the Bombardiers in a win over Stoughton. With the game tied 1-1, Vecchioli pounced on a loose ball inside the six-yard box after a service from Luke Hagopian in the 68th minute to put the hosts ahead. Vecchioli opened the scoring in the 6th minute, taking a pass from Chris Russo before cutting it back on his left foot for a beautiful blast into the top corner at the far post from just under 30 yards out. Stoughton leveled the match shortly before halftime after a great hustle play from junior Joao Marotti led to an open shot from atop the area from freshman Alex Kozak.
Canton, 1 @ King Philip, 3 – Final – King Philip scored three goals for the second straight game to earn its second straight win, this time against visiting Canton. After trading early goals, the Warriors scored in the last 10 minutes of the first half and again in the first 10 minutes of the second half for their third win of the season. Matt Crago put the hosts ahead from the spot after Tommy Lomuscio was fouled in the 10th minute but Canton’s Erik Valdovinos equalized moments later to make it 1-1. KP regained the lead in the 32nd minute when Lomuscio finished off a feed from Dermott Amorim to give KP a 2-1 advantage at the break. The Warriors added an insurance tally in the 46th minute when Crago completed his brace on an assist from Sean McCarthy.
Foxboro, 0 @ Franklin, 1 – Final – In a well-played, hard fought match, it was the Franklin Panthers that secured two points after converting a late chance from the penalty spot. Sean O’Leary earned the pen in the 76th minute and senior Terry O’Neill stepped up and buried his shot for the lone goal of the game. Foxboro goalie Derek Axon received high praise from Franklin coach Fran Bositis for his strong play (12 saves) in net.
Sharon, 1 @ Mansfield, 2 – Final – Mansfield senior Matt Hyland scored with less than a minute to play to help the Hornets earn the win and take two points after it looked like the game was destined to finish level. The Hornets had the upper hand in the opening half and converted less than 10 minutes into the contest. Michael Caridi’s long throw in the attacking third was met at the near post by Hyland but his header was turned aside by a terrific reactionary save from Sharon goalie Brady Daylor. The ball bounced off the crossbar and back into play where junior Andrew Bain was quick to clean up the rebound for the lead. Sharon equalized in the 48th minute, becoming the first team to score against Mansfield this season, snapping a 537:15 shutout streak to start the season. Amjad Kordab played a perfectly weighted through ball behind the defense and junior Adam Eastman placed it far post pass the oncoming keeper to make it 1-1. In the final minute, Hyland cut the ball back onto his left while on the right sideline and curled a shot on net that beat the keeper and found the back of the net.
North Attleboro, 0 @ Milford, 2 – Final – Junior Eduardo Santana scored the go-ahead goal and assisted on the insurance tally — both coming in the second half — as the Hawks picked up a win over visiting North Attleboro. Santana put the hosts ahead on a feed from Alex Siquera and then set up David Desa to double the lead. Milford head coach Antonio Pinto praised the effort from his backline in the shutout.
Oliver Ames, 3 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – Oliver Ames pushed its win streak to four with a well-earned two points on the road against a game Taunton squad. Sophomore Joey Carney opened the scoring on a feed from Clide Neau, and the Tigers took that 1-0 advantage into the break. But the game changed quickly when Neau doubled the lead very early in the second half on an assist from Mathias Taylor. Taylor then capped the scoring with a goal assisted by freshman Casey Milliken. Sasha Priajinski picked up his third shutout of there season while Collin Lozano, Jake Williams, Antonio Fernandes, and Hector Bucio all played well defensive for OA.
Girls Soccer
Attleboro, 4 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final – Zoe Johnson-Kiff recorded her first career hat trick, leading Attleboro to its fourth win in the last five games. Jamie Davies opened the scoring the Bombardiers, from a Kahlan Gray assist. Johnson-Kiff scored the next three goals for the visitors. Emily Dunlea had a brace of assists and Kacey Parker had one helper. Olivia Calderone and Emily Khang both had solid games for Attleboro.
King Philip, 4 @ Canton, 0 – Final – KP went on the road and picked up its sixth win in six league games this season. Ella Pisani scored eight minutes into the game, off a feed from Dani Lomuscio, and it held up as the game-winner. KP added two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to seal the win. Heidi Lawrence and Mikayla Thompson got the goals, both assisted by Morgan Norrman. Kylie Menendez made it 4-0 midway through the second half, assisted by Pisani.
Mansfield, 6 @ Sharon, 1 – Final – The Hornets made it back-to-back wins with a strong performance on the road. Tarynn Smith scored twice and assisted on two others to lead the Mansfield attack. Anna Darlington scored once and had two assists and Avery Hawthorne, Gabby Smith, and Courtney Crook also found the back of the net for the Hornets. Freshman Autumn Simon started in goal for the Eagles but then moved to forward late in the game and scored Sharon’s lone goal.
Milford, 0 @ North Attleboro, 3 – Final – North scored twice in the opening 10 minutes to pull out its third win of the season. Steph McKenna opened the scoring just four minutes in, finishing off a pass from Brooke Sullivan. Four minutes later, Emma Pratt ran onto a chip by Caroline Ferrin and made it 2-0. Haley Sinacola wrapped up the scoring with her third free kick goal of the season. Summer Doherty played well in the North defense, marking Milford star Dani Atherton. Maddie Ferrin saw five shots and penalty kick, but earned a clean sheet. Carli Guertin, Chloe Mearn, Kate Johnson, Morgan Eaton, and Jess Hennessey all played well for the Rocketeers.
Taunton, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 9 – Final – Oliver Ames sophomore Lucinda Li Cotter scored four goals as the Tigers rolled to a big win at home. Katie Gibson added two goals in the win while Alexa Lane, Carly Gibson and Lindsay Nosalek each scored once for OA, who remained unbeaten at 6-0-1.
Field Hockey
Taunton, 0 @ Attleboro, 1 – Final – Attleboro defended its home turf by earning a shutout win over visiting Taunton. Madison Ellis scored the lone goal of the game, finishing off a shot on assists from Olivia Hillman and Sarah McMahon.
North Attleboro, 1 @ Canton, 5 – Final – North Attleboro took the lead on the road at Canton but the Bulldogs bounced back with five straight to take the win. Julia Puccio put the Rocketeers ahead but Ellie Bohane scored her first of two goals on the night to make it 1-1. Senior Erin Lane and Sophomore Maggie Mcready found the back of the net before the break for a 3-1 halftime lead. Junior Audrey Koen extended the lead for the hosts and Bohane tacked on her second to cap the scoring.
Sharon, 0 @ Foxboro, 7 – Final
Mansfield, 0 @ Franklin, 8 – Final – Franklin built a three-goal lead by halftime then pumped in five more after the break as the Panthers stayed red-hot on offense in a win over Mansfield. Haley Wernig and Delaney Hess (first varsity goal) each scored two goals to lead the attack while Raena Crandall, Emily Carney, Kaitlyn Carney, and Ella Mahoney (first varsity goal) all scored once in the win. Shaw Downing, Kaeley Dubriske, Kendall Jones, and Kiera Kotwicki all recorded assists in the win.
King Philip, 4 @ Milford, 0 – Final – Sophomores Kelly Holmes and Mara Boldy each had multi-point games as King Philip bounced back from its first loss of the season with a shutout win on the road on the turf field at Woodland Elementary. Senior Margo Reilly and freshman Makenzie McDevitt also scored in the win while both Sydney O’Shea and Lily Brown had strong games for the Warriors.

Taunton, 1 @ Attleboro, 3 – Final – Attleboro shook off a close loss in the third set to take down Taunton in four (25-13, 26-24, 19-25, 25-20) for its fifth win of the season. Senior Natalie Brojek set the offense in motion with 26 assists and had a strong showing at the service line with six aces, freshman Julia Leonardo continued her stellar start to the season with 20 kills, and Lilly Boedeker anchored the defense with 21 serve receptions.
Sharon, 0 @ Foxboro, 3 – Final
North Attleboro, 0 @ Canton, 3 – Final – Canton completed a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-15, 25-12) to earn a key victory over division foe North Attleboro. Sydney Gallery paced the attack for the Bulldogs with 10 kills and also had a great game defensively. Talya DeGraw had a strong all-around match with four kills, six digs, three aces, and two blocks, Taylor Reynolds recorded 26 assists, and Anna Verille put down 15 kills and added four aces in a good all-around team effort from the Dogs.
Mansfield, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final – Franklin got off to a strong start and then fended off a strong fight from the Hornets for a 3-0 sweep (25-10, 25-23, 25-22). Sophomore Taylor Lacerda recoded nine digs, eight kills, and two aces in the win while Brigid Earley added six kills and four blocks for Franklin. For Mansfield, Lexi Scibilia notched six blocks and a kill, sophomore Elyssa Buchanan added six kills, and Julia Kelly finished with four kills and four digs.
King Philip, 3 @ Milford, 1 – Final – King Philip dropped its first set of the season after a marathon first game but bounced back to take the next three in a win on the road over Milford (26-28, 25-8, 25-13, 25-11). Sami Shore (six blocks) and Ahunna James (three aces, three digs) paced the offense for the visitors with 15 kills apiece while Liv Carey added five kills in the win. Sofia Riedel had a big day at the service line with 29 service points won along with 11 digs while Samantha Asprelli added eight digs.
Stoughton, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 3 – Final – Oliver Ames took care of business at home, sweeping visiting Stoughton (25-11, 25-18, 25-10). The Tigers got key contributions from three different classes with senior Hadley Rhodes recording 15 assists and eight aces, junior Maddie Homer adding 14 digs and 10 serve receptions, and senior Sarah Hilliard finishing with 10 kills and five aces.

Franklin, 151 @ Attleboro, 152 – Final
Oliver Ames, 167 @ Mansfield, 155 – Final – Mansfield bounced back from a one-stroke loss at Pine Oaks to Oliver Ames by splitting the season series with the Tigers, earning their eighth win of the year with a win over the Tigers at Norton Country Club. Senior Cian Goulet shot an even par medalist round of 36 to lead the way while sophomore Nathan McClean added a 39 and both seniors Hunter Tang and Ryan Doherty shot a 40. Jo Jo Gaultier led Oliver Ames with a 37 while Sean Kearns added a 39 for the Tigers.
Sharon, 173 @ Milford, 167 – Final – Milford broke into the win column for the season with a victory over Sharon at Hopedale Country Club. Anthony LaPierre and Jacob Hipolito both earned medalist honors by shooting a match-low round of 40 in the win. Sharon’s Nathan Daley also took a share of medalist honors with a 40 while Eric Carter added a 42.
Stoughton, 188 @ North Attleboro, 151 – Final – North Attleboro’s Tyson Laviano fired an ever par round of 35 to lead the Rocketeers to a win on the middle course of Heather Hill in a match against Stoughton. Jake Gaskin came in one-over at 36, Dillon Harding shot a 39, and Ishan Kohli finished at 41.
