Boys Basketball
Attleboro, 51 vs. Durfee, 43 – FinalAttleboro closed the game on a 10-0 run over the final three minutes to earn a key non-league win over a strong Durfee squad. The Bombardiers fell behind 40-34 early in the fourth but Neo Franco had a 7-0 run of his own, scoring off a turnover and then off of assists from Connor Houle (8 points) and Jaiden Outland — the latter a three — to give Attleboro a 41-40 lead. The Hilltoppers jumped back ahead on a traditional three-point play, but that would be Durfee’s only points in the final seven minutes of the game. Jaiden Outland (9 points) hit consecutive threes, the first on a nice feed from Houle and the second off a pass from Franco (15 points) on an offensive rebound. Houle and Franco tacked on two points apiece in the final minute to seal the win.

Girls Basketball
Attleboro, 40 @ Durfee, 60 – FinalAttleboro scored only 13 points in the second half, allowing Durfee to come from behind and win this battle of two teams vying for a higher ranking in the Div. 1 playoffs. The Bombardiers led 15-8 after one, sparked by seven points from Lily Routhier and four from Vanessa Ellis. Routhier added five more in the second, but the Hilltoppers scored 14 and cut the Attleboro lead to 27-22 at the break. Vanessa Ellis scored six of her 10 points in the third, but the Bombardiers managed only nine as a team and Durfee scored 16 to grab a two-point lead. The Hilltoppers blew the game wide open with a dominant fourth quarter. Durfee outscored Attleboro 22-4. Routhier led the visitors with 12 points, Avery James added seven, and Kayal Goldrick scored six.

Canton, 29 vs. Notre Dame Academy, 47 – FinalCanton trailed by just two after one quarter, but the Bulldogs struggled offensively over the final three quarters and lost for the second time this season to NDA. Fatima Sidibay scored seven of her team-high 11 points in the first, helping the Bulldogs score 13 in the opening eight minutes. Canton scored only 16 points over the final 24 minutes. The second quarter was all about defense, as the Bulldogs held NDA to just six points but they only managed a pair of Erin Beatty (six points) free throws on the other end. Samya DaSilva hit a three in the third quarter for her only points of the night, but Canton was outscored 16-6 in the frame to fall behind by 16. Beatty and Sidibay combined for six of Canton’s eight points in the fourth.

Boys Hockey
Attleboro, 1 @ Franklin, 8 – FinalAttleboro scored an early goal but it was all Franklin the rest of the way in a big league win. Ben Paterson had a five point night to lead the Panthers’ offense, scoring twice with three helpers while Anthony Lampasona finished with two goals and two assists for four points. Dan Daley added two scored and Tommy Balducci and Vinnie Pasquarosa each scored once.

Canton, 5 @ North Attleboro, 2 – FinalCanton scored a power play goal with just under five minutes left in the second period to take the lead for good, and tacked on two more in the third to skate past North Attleboro. Travis Thomas opened the scoring for the Bulldogs and Pat Drury scored Canton’s second goal but North answered each time, the second tying the game in the second period. Brian Middleton scored what turned out to be the game winner with 4:38 to play in the second. In the third, AJ Thomas and Colin Blake scored to secure the win.

Mansfield, 1 @ King Philip, 4 – Final

Stoughton/Brockton, 1 vs. Southeastern, 6 – FinalAnthony DeSousa scored the lone goal for the Black Knights in a loss to Southeastern.

Saturday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 12/11/21

Boys Hockey
Canton, 4 @ Lincoln-Sudbury, 5 – Final (OT)Canton built a 3-1 lead early in the second period but needed a goal in the final minutes to force overtime at 4-4. Jack Digirolamo and Brendan Tourgee put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 in the first period and a goal from Colin Blake made it 3-1 early in the second. L-S responded with two goals to make it 3-3 after two periods and then took a lead with just over five minutes left. With the goalie pulled, Leo Owens knotted it at 4-4 with 1:21 to play. L-S scored the winner in overtime with just over a minute to play.

Franklin, 2 @ Weymouth, 4 – Final

North Attleboro, 0 @ Bishop Feehan, 3 – Final

Girls Hockey
Canton, 1 vs. Natick, 4 – Final

King Philip, 4 @ Milton, 1 – Final

Stoughton/Sharon, 0 @ Cambridge, 4 – FinalJanelle Murphy played well in net for the Knights with 44 saves.

Wrestling
Westford Academy Quad (Foxboro), 9:00

Mt. Hope (R.I.) Quad Meet (Franklin) – Franklin split for the day, picking up a pair of wins in four matches. The Panthers earned wins over Barnstable (39-18) and Pilgrim (46-6) but dropped two tight contests to Hope (39-38) and Lowell (42-38).

Sharon Quad (Sharon, Mansfield) – Sharon went a perfect 4-0 on the day, rolling to four big wins in the first quad meet of the season. The Eagles had wins over Brookline (54-24), Mansfield (66-12), Leominster (72-4), and Lincoln-Sudbury (82-6). Ashmith Yeruva (106), Vehnil Rangaraman (113), Ben Grabie (160), Gabe Korn (170) and Ron Loebl (285) all earned their first varsity wins on the day for the Eagles.

Milford Quad (Milford) – Milford opened its season in style, picking up convincing wins in all three of its matches on the day. The Hawks knocked off Tewksbury (62-15), Marblehead/Swampscott (69-12), and Wayland (66-16). Aidan Baum, Mikey Boulanger, Robbie Lyons, Joey Testa, Danny Alves, Ryan Donovan, Jack Cruz, Cam Phillips, and Hampton Kaye-Kuter all went 3-0 on the day for Milford.

Devin Ness Memorial Tournament (Oliver Ames) – Oliver Ames took fourth overall in the Devin Ness tournament after sending five wrestlers to the finals. Elyor Ruzmatov (113) had three wins all by pinfall to win his bracket while Giovany Juste won three of his four matches by fall to win at 170. Deric Lipski, Jr. (160), Kyle Hardie (138), and Nathan Lipski (132) each finished second overall for the Tigers.

Watertown Quad (Taunton) – Taunton won all three of its matches to kick off the 2021-2022 season with a bang. The Tigers were victorious over Bristol Aggie (66-15), Watertown (78-6), and Carver (69-12). Brandon Mendes (120), Anthony Viera (126), Xavier Sandoval (132), Luke Fraga (138), Ben Mandeville (145), Christian Balmain (160), Elijah Prophete (170), Ethan Harris (182), Peter Ye (195), and Logan Frank (220) each had three wins for the Tigers.

Ashland Tournament (North Attleboro) – The Rocketeers sent five wrestlers to the finals of the Ashland Early Bird Invitational and earned second place overall. Keysun Wise (285) was the lone champion on the day for the Big Red while Austin Dean (195), Christopher Galligan (138), Jaad Ismail (170), and Tanner Ferguson (120) all earned second overall.

D2 South

#13 Hanover, 11 @ #1 Canton, 10 – Final (OT)Canton overcame a four-goal deficit in the final quarter to force overtime but the Bulldogs saw their season come to a close in the D2 South semifinal round. Canton raced out to a 4-1 lead to start the game but its lead was down to 4-3 by the end of the first quarter and the hosts trailed 6-5 by halftime. Hanover blanked the Bulldogs in the third and scored an early goal in the fourth for a 9-5 lead before Canton orchestrated a comeback. Senior Jeff Fitzpatrick scored once, freshman Pat Drury netted back-to-back goals, Colin Blake scored once, and Sam Carlino scored with just under two minutes to go to tie the game at 10-10. Canton had a potential game-winning chance turned away at the one-minute mark, and the Bulldogs forced a turnover in overtime to gain possession but couldn’t find the back of the net.

D2 South
#4 Martha’s Vineyard, 2 @ #1 Foxboro, 3 – FinalFoxboro’s Sarah Prag emerged with a hard-fought win at third singles to give the Warriors their third point, clinching the win over previously undefeated Martha’s Vineyard. The visitors jumped ahead 2-0 by sweeping both doubles matches but Foxboro freshman Athena Li got the hosts on the board with a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles. Pam Nelson secured a 6-2, 6-0 win at second singles to tie the game 2-2, meaning the match would be decided at third doubles. Prag ended up with a 6-4, 6-4 win to grab the final point and the win. Foxboro will host #2 Notre Dame Academy in the D2 South Final on Saturday at 4:00.

Wrestling
D1 South Final

#2 Taunton, 24 @ #1 New Bedford, 49 – FinalTaunton finished as the D1 South Sectional Finalists, coming up short on the road against top-seeded and unbeaten New Bedford. The Tigers got wins from Christian Balmain (160, 4:48), Jackson Mandeville (170, 2:58), Peter Ye (220, 4:52), and Johnnie Mainer-Smith (106, forfeit).

D2 South Final
#2 North Attleboro, 31 @ #1 Plymouth South, 39 – Final

D2 Central Final
#2 Milford, 25 @ #1 Natick, 39 – Final

Boys Volleyball
South

#10 North Quincy, 0 @ #2 Taunton, 3 – FinalTaunton earned its second straight sweep in tournament action, this time taking down North Quincy, 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-19). Daniel Medina set the offense in motion with 24 assists, spreading the ball around as the Tigers had a balanced attack. Tyler Stewart had 10 kills and five blocks, Dolan Campbell added eight kills and three blocks, Faisal Mass notched seven kills and three blocks, Mattia Casagrande recorded five kills, eight digs, and three aces, and Jakob Thorpe chipped in with a pair of kills and three aces. Travis Nunes anchored the back row defense again with 12 digs and a strong serve receive that allowed Taunton set up its offense. Taunton will host #3 Brookline on Saturday in the South Semifinal at 4:00.
