Player of the Week: Nate Garstka, King Philip Hockey

Nate Garstka

By HockomockSports.com Staff

King Philip senior Nate Garstka has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Jan. 8 through Jan. 14. Garstka is the 17th player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2023-24 school year and fourth in the winter season.

Garstka more than doubled his goal total for the season with four goals over two games, as KP won a pair of league games, including a stunning 4-0 victory over previously undefeated Canton on Saturday night at the Foxboro Sports Center. The wins keep KP in a first-place tie with Franklin atop the Kelley-Rex division.

Coming off a tough loss to Taunton, the Warriors bounced back this week starting with a 5-1 win over North Attleboro on Wednesday. Garstka added the final goal of the game. On Saturday, defending D2 champ Canton paid a visit, but it was the Warriors who controlled the game from the start. Garstka scored once in each period. He opened the scoring with a deft touch in front of goal, redirecting a shot from the point into the bottom corner. With Canton ramping up the pressure in the second, Garstka collected a loose puck in the slot, spun, and fired a shot over the goalie’s shoulder. As KP was managing the final period, keeping the Bulldogs at arm’s length, Garstka got a head of steam entering the zone, cut across the front of goal, and sniped the top corner to complete his hat trick and effectively seal the win.
