Stoughton, 5 @ Norwood, 0 – FinalMatheus Groberio scored a pair of goals to help Stoughton bounce back in a big way with a rout of Norwood. Sam Santos, Tyler Teixeira, and Joao Moratti each scored once on top of Groberio’s brace while Ben Shirey posted the shutout in net.

Girls Soccer
Stoughton, 4 vs. Norwood, 1 – FinalStoughton scored four times in the second half, winning for the second time in as many days. Norwood got the lone goal of the first half and went into the break with the lead, but the Black Knights responded six minutes into the second half and never looked back. Morgan Cook equalized with a shot off the post, assisted by Shayla Ford. Five minutes later, Emma Tran scored what turned out to be the game-winner from the spot. Ford doubled the lead in the 57th minute, breaking past the Norwood defense and finishing. Tran added her second of the day just two minutes later with a 30-yard free kick. Molly Fox made seven saves to pick up the win in goal.

King Philip, 2 @ Franklin, 1 – FinalKP bounced back from a loss to OA by handing Franklin its first loss of the season. Heidi Lawrence scored a brace for the Warriors, who moved back into a first-place tie with the Panthers in the division. Lawrence scored 13 minutes before halftime after a nice run that was picked out by Ella Pisani’s diagonal ball. Norah Anderson got Franklin’s goal off a Katie Ewald corner, but then Lawrence popped up with the winner five minutes from full time. Pisani again provided the killer pass.




Field Hockey
Attleboro, 0 @ King Philip, 2 – FinalClick here for a Photo Gallery from this game. KP scored a pair of second half goals, both assisted by Kelly Holmes, to pull out a second straight win. The game was scoreless at halftime, but with seven minutes left in the third Holmes found a little bit of space on the left and fired a ball into the middle that was deftly tipped by Nicole MacDonald for the opening goal. The lead stayed at one until the final two minutes when Holmes hit a low cross from the right wing that was deflected in front by Ella McDonnell for a goal that sealed the points. Marley Young had Attleboro’s best chance when her second quarter shot was cleared off the line by Maggie Murphy. Siany Gomez had a huge game in goal for the Bombardiers to keep them in the game until the final minutes.

Stoughton, 0 @ Canton, 10 – Final

Franklin, 9 @ Taunton, 0 – FinalFranklin scored five goals in the opening quarter and never went back in a big win on the road over Taunton. Sophia Cuneo opened the scoring less than a minute in, Sydney Rogan and Payten Crandall each scored once, and Haley Wernig scored two goals inside the final minute to give the Panthers a big lead early. Kaitlyn Carney, who scored two goals in the second half, assisted on Franklin’s first four goals. Lindsay Dennett and Brooke Taylor (first career goal) added a goal each for Franklin.

Mansfield @ Oliver Ames, 3:45

North Attleboro, 8 @ Milford, 0 – FinalNorth Attleboro scored three goals in each the first and third quarters on its way to a big win over Milford. Caitlin Vacher (from Caroline Folan), Madison Folan (from Ava Spencer), and Julia Puccio (from Sadie Barend) scored one apiece in the first to give North a 3-0 lead. In the third, Rory McGinley, Caroline Folan, and Puccio each had an unassisted goal. Kelsey Thompson and Ava Mckeon both played solid in the midfield to help stop Milford offense and transition the ball up the field for the North Attleboro offense.

Foxboro, 6 @ Sharon, 0 – Final




Volleyball
Foxboro, 2 @ Sharon, 3 – After a great back-and-forth battle, Sharon prevailed in five sets to take down visiting Foxboro (25-20, 17-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-11). For the Warriors, Sami Sloan recorded eight kills, seven digs, and six aces, Alyssa Cloherty added 30 assists, seven digs, three blocks, and a pair of kills and aces, and Shannon McElhinney chipped in with 16 digs and two aces.

Mansfield, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 3 – FinalIn a hard-fought, competitive match, Oliver Ames prevailed with a 3-0 25-15, 25-19, 25-20) sweep of visiting Mansfield. Senior Courtney Raymond had a strong game with 10 service points and four kills, senior Maddie Homer added 22 digs, sophomore Clare Kavoulis dished out 20 assists, junior Sarah Hilliard had 14 kills, and senior Mary Derba chipped in with five kills.

Attleboro, 0 0 @ King Philip, 3 – FinalAfter prevailing in a tightly contested first set, King Philip went on to complete the sweep to knock Attleboro from the ranks of the unbeatens (26-24, 25-17, 25-18). Emily Sawyer continued to dominate in the middle with 13 kills along with four blocks and three aces while the Warriors also got big offensive contributions from Ahunna James (six kills, 11 digs) and Sami Shore (eight kills, two ces). Shea Mellman anchored the KP defense with eight digs. For Attleboro, Julia Leonardo recorded 14 digs and six kills while Natalie Brojek added 12 assists, seven digs, and four aces in a strong all-around effort.

Franklin, 3 @ Taunton, 0 – FinalFranklin continued its undefeated start to the season with a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-17, 25-16) on the road at Taunton. Makayla Kuykendall had a big game for the Panthers with 11 kills, eight digs, and four aces while Taylor Lacerda continued her streak of strong performances with 17 kills and 11 digs.

Mansfield, 162 @ North Attleboro, 155 – FinalJake Gaskin and Tyson Laviano shared match medalist honors to give North Attleboro a key non-league win over rival Mansfield. Gaskin and Laviano both fired a two-over par round of 37 on Heather Hill’s South Course to lead the Rocketeers. Zach Corsetti shot a 40 and Ishan Kohli rounded out North’s scoring with a 41. Brendan Vokey led the Hornets with a 38, Nate McClean and Hayden O’Connor each shot a 41, and Drew Urban carded a 42.

Foxboro, 162 @ Oliver Ames, 152 – FinalOliver Ames picked up its fifth straight win to start the season, taking down Davenport division foe Foxboro at Pine Oaks. Junior David Rodgers was a co-medalist in the match, sinking a birdie on the fourth hole to finish with a 36 for OA. Michael McGinnis added a 37, Sean Kearns finished with a 39, and Lucas Riley came into the clubhouse with a 40. Foxboro freshman Zac Georgantas also shared match medalist honors with a 36.

Attleboro, 2 @ Mansfield, 2 – FinalAttleboro scored the first and last goals of the game, the latter coming with less than 10 minutes to play to help the Bombardiers secure a tie and a point on the road. Luke Hagopian bagged a brace on his birthday, finishing off an assist from Esvin Morales in the 74th minute to bring the Bombardiers back level. Hagopian opened the scoring in the 16th minute off an assist from Steve Etienne. Mansfield leveled the game less than 10 minutes later on a blast from distance from Aiden Steele. Mansfield took the lead in the 34th minute as Grady Sullivan buried a rebound off a shot from Steele. For Mansfield, Matty Sullivan, Derek McGrath, Aiden Jones, Brendan Flynn, and Kyle Johnson all played well defensively.

Milford, 4 @ Foxboro, 0 – FinalMilford scored a pair of goals in each half to pick up a pair of points on the road at Foxboro. The Hawks converted a pair of crosses to establish the lead, starting with a finish from Eduardo Santana on a service from Saverio Fulgitini. Milford double its lead when Kaua Pereira scored off a cross from Nick Ribero. In the second half, Pereira set up Arthur Tome to make it 3-0 and then Santana fed John Borges for a finish to make it 4-0.

Franklin 1, @ Oliver Ames, 5 – FinalClick here for a photo gallery of this game.Oliver Ames raced out to a three-goal lead by halftime and then tacked on two goals inside the final 15 minutes to secure a 5-1 win over Franklin in its season opener. Five different players scored for the Tigers, starting with a goal just over five minutes into the game. Sophomore Luke Churchill lifted a ball over the top of the defense and junior Ryan Linhares ran onto it and calmly chipped the oncoming keeper on the bounce. Less than 10 minutes later, sophomore Casey Milliken played in a through ball to junior Ryan Carney and he finished low to the far post. OA made it 3-0 in the 35th minute as Hector Bucio was first to a corner from Linhares, hitting a low one-timer into the back of the net from inside the area. Franklin had a strong start to the second half and played equal to the hosts. The Panthers pulled one back in the 47th minute after good pressure from juniors Andrew O’Neill and Hansy Jacques ended up in a combination between the two and the latter smashed a low left-footed shot off the far post and in. After some more even play, OA cashed in on a Franklin turnover. Andrew Martins took down a failed clearance connected with Milliken, who fired a cross/shot that was spilled in the area and Mirray Dasilva was first to the loose ball and fired it in. Michael MacAdam came up with a turnover at midfield and quickly hit a counter pass up to Milliken that drew Franklin goalie Griffin Tolonen well off his line. Tolonen got the ball but it deflected right to Martins, who passed one into the back of the net.

Girls Soccer
Mansfield, 2 @ Attleboro, 0 – FinalMansfield opened league play with a solid road win. Kara Santos put the Hornets in front, finishing a corner by freshman Olivia Dunham, who recorded her first varsity point. Meghan McCann doubled the lead when she ran onto a through ball from Lauren Signoriello and finished the breakaway. Olivia Salisbury made three saves to get the clean sheet.

Canton, 3 @ North Attleboro, 0 – FinalCanton scored a pair of second half goals to break things open and secure a win in the season opener. The Bulldogs opened the scoring midway through the first half on a goal by Emily McCabe. North started the second half on the front foot, but Canton regrouped and in the 60th minute freshman Georgia Campbell got her first varsity goal to make it 2-0. Emma Cahill sealed the win with a goal in the final minute. Mekahala Costello, freshman Alyssa Wong, and Tess Giglio recorded assists. Canton coach Idris Senyonjo praised Wong and Campbell for giving Canton a needed energy boost in the second half. Maddie Ferrin made six saves for the Rocketeers.

Foxboro, 2 @ Milford, 1 – FinalNeve Taylor scored a pair of unassisted goals and Allie Sougaris made a huge save in the closing minute to secure a hard-fought win for the Warriors. The game was scoreless at halftime and it was the home team that broke the deadlock when Paige Caldon finished off a pass from Dani Atherton. Foxboro responded almost immediately, as Taylor equalized. With about 18 minutes to play, Taylor struck again for what turned out to be the game-winner. Atherton had a chance to steal a point with nearly the final kick of the game, but Sougaris made a brilliant save on the breakaway to keep the Warriors in front. Freshman Kaliegh Tourtellot had a strong game in goal for the Hawks, filling in for injured Chloe Murdock.

Stoughton, 0 @ King Philip, 2 – FinalKP took 32 shots on Friday but only managed a pair of goals, pulling out a tough home win in its league opener. Ella Pisani’s through ball set up Dani Lomuscio for a goal early in the first half. In the second half, Dani Gresham’s corner kick went off a defender to double the lead.




Field Hockey
North Attleboro, 4 @ Canton, 5 – FinalCanton scored three goals in the third quarter and then held off a fourth quarter comeback bid from North Attleboro to secure a 5-4 win. The Bulldogs built a 2-0 lead in the second quarter but Julia Puccio scored a pair of goals, including one off a Kelsey Thompson corner with 31 seconds left in the half to bring the Big Red level. Canton extended its lead to 5-2 with a big third quarter but Puccio scored two more times in the fourth to make it a one-goal game. Puccio netted a deflected shot with 9:05 left in the game and then scored off a pass from Madison Folan with 3:54 left to make it 5-4. Canton had five different goal scorers, including one goal and two assists from freshman Carolyn Schiavo.

Volleyball
King Philip, 3 vs. Walpole, 0 – FinalKing Philip continued its strong start to the season with a dominating 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-8) sweep over Walpole. Sami Shore led the offense with seven kills, Ahunna James added six kills and a pair of aces, Emily Sawyer registered four kills, two aces, and two blocks, and sophomore Madison Asprelli landed four aces in the win.

Canton, 1 vs. North Quincy, 3 – FinalCanton jumped ahead in the match with a win in the first set but North Quincy bounced back with three straight to claim victory, 3-1. For Canton, Jess Wright had an outstanding performance with 14 kills and a pair of aces.

Friday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 05/13/22

Baseball
Mansfield, 1 vs. Bishop Feehan, 2 – Final Mansfield cut the deficit in half to make it a one-run game going into the final inning, but the Hornets came up just short in a pitcher’s duel. Jimmy Gilleran tossed a 6-inning complete game for the Hornets, allowing five hits and three walks, striking out four with two unearned runs charged. Feehan took advantage of three straight Hornet errors to push across two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Jared Fraone brought in pinch runner Rocco Scarpellini on a sac fly in the top of the sixth to make it 2-1 but the Hornets went quietly in the seventh to end the game.

Sharon, 9 @ Stoughton, 8 – FinalSharon exploded for six runs in the fifth inning and added three more in the sixth to take a big lead and then held off Stoughton’s late inning charge. The Black Knights built a 4-0 lead with two runs in each the second (Hunter Malkin & Joseph Rush RBIs) and the third (Anthony Tilton RBI triple, Dom Belle sac fly) innings. After a pair of one-out walks, Ryan Baker cut the lead in half with a two-run double, Will Hippler made it a one-run game with a triple to center and Dan Okstein tied it with a single to right. Sharon tacked on two more runs with two outs as Dylan Labbe doubled in a run and an infield error allowed one more run to cross. Hippler added a one-out RBI in the sixth, Okstein tripled to plate another and scored on a wild pitch for a 9-4 lead. A double steal brought Belle home in the sixth to make it 9-5 and then Stoughton struck for three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Tilton brought in two with a double and scored on a single from Joe McNulty to make it 9-8. Stoughton had the tying run at third and the winning run at second but Okstein induced a ground ball for the final out.








Softball
Canton, 0 @ Milton, 9 – Final

Stoughton, 10 @ Franklin, 13 – FinalFor the second time in as many days, Franklin pushed across 13 runs but this time had to hold off a late surge from Stoughton to get the win. The game featured over 30 hits and the teams combined for over 20 runs, including 13 in the first inning. Stoughton had a great start with five runs in the top of the first, highlighted by an RBI double from Julie Powers and a two-out RBI single from Kate Bulger. But Franklin responded in a big way in the bottom half, scoring eight runs to take a lead it never relinquished the rest of the way. Katy Liberman sparked the offense with a two-run triple and Sarah Boozang delivered a two-run double with the bases loaded to give Franklin a 6-5 lead. Aislinn Lavery added a sac fly and Reece Allen smacked a two-out triple for another run and an 8-5 advantage. The Panthers pushed across three more in the bottom of the second, all with two outs. Boozang brought home a pair on a double and another scored on the throw to make it 11-5. Franklin once again tacked onto its lead with two outs in the bottom of the fourth with Carly Johnson-Pellegri scoring one with a double and Liberman brought another home with her second triple of the game. Stoughton cut into the deficit with four runs in the top of the fifth as Camryn Whitman had a two-run double and Melody Casna brought another run in on a ground out. The Black Knights made it a three-run game by scoring on an error in the sixth and brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh with one out, but the Panthers got a ground out and a fly ball to right to end the game.

Milford, 1 vs. Grafton, 13 – Final

King Philip, 11 @ Cumberland (RI), 4 – FinalKing Philip scored seven runs between the second and fourth innings and then tacked on four key insurance runs in the top of the seventh to get a win on the road in the Ocean State. Jordan Bennett and Charlotte Raymond had back-to-back RBIs in the second, Taylor Regan brought in one with a RBI single and scored on a double steal before Sarah Cullen knocked in Caitlyn Sencaj to extend the lead to 5-0. After Cumberland got two runs back in the third, Ava Kelley scored on a passed ball and Regan plated Ava Lanza with a groundout. Holding a 7-4 lead going into the final inning, KP scored four runs to put the game away — and earn key rating points with the max margin of victory at five runs. Maddie Paschke had a single to center to bring in a run in the seventh.




Boys Lacrosse
Foxboro, 10 @ Bishop Feehan, 9 – FinalFoxboro’s Tommy Sharkey fired a shot into the back of the net to break a tie with just seven seconds to go to give the Warriors a dramatic win on the road over Feehan. With the game tied 9-9, Sharkey scored the game-winner to hand Foxboro a key win over a good Shamrocks squad. The goal completed Sharkey’s hat trick while Lincoln Moore scored five goals and Conor Noone had two goals and two assists in the win. Adam Addeche made nine saves in net for the Warriors.

Canton, 10 vs. Quincy, 6 – FinalCanton held visiting Quincy to just one goal in the first half and goalie Elyse Broderick made 10 saves in net as the Bulldogs denied the visiting Presidents. Emily McCabe led the charge offensively with four goals for the Bulldogs, who claimed a 3-1 lead at the halftime break. Ella Yeaton chipped in with a pair of goals as well.

King Philip, 10 vs. Natick, 8 – FinalFreshman goalie Kaitlyn Parish turned aside six shots to lead King Philip to one of its best wins of the season, knocking off Natick at home. Nikki McDonald had a breakout game for the Warriors, scoring a team-high four goals along with Julia Marsden.

Boys Tennis
Mansfield, 3 vs. West Bridgewater, 2 – FinalUsing a member of each grade, Mansfield swept doubles action and took one win from singles to secure a hard-fought 3-2 win over non-league foe West Bridgewater. Senior Jonah Fine and junior Benson Delaney took care of business with a 6-2, 6-1 win at first doubles while sophomore Jacob Weiner and freshman Josh Weiner were victorious (6-2, 6-1) in straight sets at second doubles. Freshman Neema Khosravani rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win at second singles to clinch the win for the Hornets.

Oliver Ames, 2 @ Milton, 3 – FinalOA got wins at third singles from senior Kylash Ganesh (6-3, 6-3) and its freshman pairing of Patrick Dolan and Alex Efremidas at No. 1 doubles (6-4, 6-3).

Girls Tennis
Canton, 4 @ Stoughton, 1 – FinalCanton and Stoughton split the first two matches but the Bulldogs took third singles and both doubles matches for a 4-1 win on the road. Camila Cutta (6-3, 6-2) and Olivia Maloney (6-4, 7-5) won at first and third singles, respectively, for the Bulldogs while Olivia Durham and Grace Powers teamed up for a 6-4, 6-0 first doubles win and Allie Wong teamed with Liv McCloskey for a 7-6, 7-6 second doubles victory. Stoughton’s Emilia Lada secured a 6-3, 6-1 win at second singles.
