Franklin senior Emma White has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Feb. 27 through March 5. White is the 23rd player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2021-22 school year and the 12th of the winter season.
White continued her stellar senior season by adding another all-around title to her resume. She took home first place at the state championship meet that was held this weekend at Algonquin High, helping the Panthers finish in second place as a team and qualify for the upcoming New England meet. This title was added to the South Sectional and the Hockomock Gymnastics Championships all-around titles that White already claimed this winter.
“Emma has been a great athlete to coach these past two years,” said Franklin coach Paula Lupieb. “It’s been fun watching her gel with the team and excel in her craft! She performs with grace and power, as a senior she will be greatly missed.”
White finished the state meet with a total score of 38.925. She totaled a 9.725 on the vault, a 9.65 on the uneven bars, a 9.8 on the beam, and a 9.75 on the floor. That total was 0.8 points better than the second place gymnast from Masconomet. While Masco would win the team title, Franklin finished in second with a team score of 144.90, which is its best finish in a state meet and an impressive result for a program only in its sixth season. The previous week, Franklin won its first sectional title, scoring a 145.175, which was more than a point better than second place Framingham. White also won the all-around title at sectionals with a total of 38.600 (9.650 on vault, 9.600 on bars, 9.775 on beam, and 9.575 on floor).
The Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, is selected by the HockomockSports.com staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at midnight. There may be a poll posted on every Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
