2022 HockomockSports Boys Lacrosse Awards
Franklin junior attack Luke Davis has been selected as the 2022 HockomockSports.com Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year. This is the first time the award has been given out since 2019. Davis was the league’s top attacking player this year, helping Franklin secure a ninth straight Kelley-Rex division title, complete a perfect league campaign, and reach the Div. 1 quarterfinal.

Davis, a Boston University commit, was part of the league’s top attacking unit, a trio of players who all surpassed the 100-point mark this season and scored nearly 60 more goals than anyone else in the Hockomock. Davis spearheaded the attack with 94 goals and 42 assists this year and was chosen by the coaches as the league MVP.

“Luke is a versatile attacker that is so hard for even the top defenses to contain,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry. “His quickness allows him to get away from a pole and get his hands free, but he’s also got the strength to bully a defender around the crease. He can score from distance or with creativity around the crease, but also has the vision to turn double teams into easy goals for a cutting teammate.”

Davis joined former Franklin players Jason Alexander and Eric Civetti to be named a two-time Eastern Mass. All-American, the only players in league history to have that honor.

“Luke is the last of the Davis clan and arguably the best,” said Franklin coach Lou Verrochi. “He’s a difficult cover for any pole and he always gets the No. 1 defender. If he gets the early slide, he finds the open stick.

This is the seventh straight year that a Franklin player has earned Player of the Year, following Alexander (2019), Civetti (2018 and 2017), Austin Kent (2016) and Jack Vail (2015 and 2014). Pat Ward of Canton was the inaugural winner in 2013.

Honorable Mentions: Jayden Consigli (Franklin), Matt Antonetti (North Attleboro), Sam Carlino (Canton)

Please note that the HockomockSports.com awards are selected by our staff. They are completely separate from the Hockomock League All-Stars. Players are listed alphabetically by position.

HockomockSports First Team

James Boldy – King Philip – Goalie
After emerging on the scene as one of the best goalies in the league last season, King Philip junior James Boldy had another terrific season in the cage in 2022. Boldy’s positioning and reflexes established him as one of the best shot stoppers in the Hock. During the regular season, Boldy made 225 saves at an impressive 66.6% clip, both of which were among the best in the league. KP allowed a league-low 122 goals this season. “He has incredibly quick reflexes, positional awareness, and immediate understanding of what is happening on the field at all times,” said King Philip head coach Hal Bean. “As a junior captain, we are all looking forward to his leadership next year!”

James Brennan – North Attleboro – Defense
North Attleboro senior James Brennan was a rock in the back for the Davenport division-winning Rocketeers. Brennan’s aggressiveness and ability to man-mark some of the best players in the league was one of the reasons North’s defense was one of the best units in the area. His versatility proved vital when North Attleboro needed him this season. “James is a tireless competitor,” said North Attleboro head coach Kevin Young. “We had a need at face-offs and long stick midfield coverage. James, as captain, stepped right up and took on an unfamiliar role. He dominated ground balls and wreaked havoc on opponents. He will be playing at Central Connecticut.”

Ben Harvey – Franklin – Defense
Franklin junior Ben Harvey was a leader for one of the league’s top defensive units. Despite playing some of the top attacking teams in the state, Harvey and the Panthers allowed fewer than nine goals per game this year. It was one of the factors in the Panthers winning a ninth straight league title and reaching the Div. 1 quarterfinal. He was selected as an all-star by the league’s coaches. Franklin coach Lou Verrochi said, “Ben always covered the top attack or middie. He’s a total beast and calls all defensive sets and slide packages. He’s a very cerebral player.”

Dylan Kerrigan – Foxboro – Defense
Foxboro senior pole Dylan Kerrigan has been a vocal and physical presence in the heart of the Warriors’ defense, regularly marking the opposition’s top attackers and providing an outlet for the transition game. The Southern New Hampshire commit helped Foxboro in a pair of playoff games to reach the Div. 3 quarterfinals. The Warriors allowed the third-fewest goals in the league this season, at fewer than eight per game. Kerrigan was selected as a league all-star. Foxboro coach Matt Noone said, “Dylan has covered the best attackman for the past two years! He was the leader of the defense and his intensity and IQ are college ready. Southern New Hampshire University is getting a good one.”

Matt Antonetti – North Attleboro – Midfield
North Attleboro senior Matt Antonetti had a record-breaking final season for the Big Red, leading the Rocketeers to their second ever division title and first since 2017. Armed with a powerful shot and great technique, Antonetti tied for second in the Hock during the regular season with 114 points. He finished the season with 64 goals (fourth in the Hock) and 50 assists (second), and capped his career with a program record of 167 goals. “He set the program record for goals even though he always drew the strongest defenseman,” said North Attleboro head coach Kevin Young. “He was a leader on and off the field and is headed to Southern New Hampshire University to play next year.”

Sean Crowther – King Philip – Midfield
King Philip senior Sean Crowther was once again one of the most productive offensive players in the Hock, helping the Warriors finish second in the Kelley-Rex division. Coming off a 40-goal season, Crowther took his game to the next level this year with 34 goals in the regular season and tripled his assist production from a year before by tallying 32 helpers. His leadership both on and off the field helped propel King Philip back to the postseason this year. “Sean Crowther lead a balanced attack with very smart situational awareness and decision-making skills. His unselfish play showed in his 34 goals and 32 assists.

Brady Daylor – Sharon – Midfield
Sharon senior Brady Daylor had another dynamic season for the Eagles, who earned a spot in the state tournament this season. Daylor was one of Sharon’s go-to options last season but really emerged as the main scoring threat this year, racking up the fourth most points in the Hockomock League during the regular season. His 63 goals ranked fifth most, and third most from a player from the Davenport division, and his 46 assists were fourth all, making him just one of five players this season to record over 100 points.

Ben Riggs – King Philip – Midfield
King Philip senior Ben Riggs was a workhorse for the Warriors, seemingly all over the field making plays on both ends all season long. Riggs was not only a vital member of King Philip’s defense, which allowed the fewest goals this season, he was a key cog in the Warriors’ offense. He tallied 23 goals and added nine assists this season. “Ben Riggs is extremely quick with an excellent shot,” said King Philip head coach Hal Bean. “As a midfielder, he played strong defensively as well as an offensive threat that teams had to plan for.”

Luke Davis – Franklin – Attack
Franklin junior Luke Davis put up another impressive offensive season for the Panthers, leading them to a ninth straight league title and a spot in the Div. 1 quarterfinal. One of the three Franklin players to eclipse the 100-point mark this year, the BU-commit and HockomockSports.com Player of the Year (see above) scored 94 goals and dished out 42 assists while earning his second straight All-American nod. He was also voted league MVP. Franklin coach Lou Verrochi said, “Luke is a difficult cover for any pole and he always gets the No. 1. If he gets the early slide he finds the open stick.”

Jayden Consigli – Franklin – Attack
Franklin junior Jayden Consigli built on his breakout sophomore season to help the Panthers win a ninth straight league title and reach the Div. 1 quarterfinal. Consigli scored 78 goals and had 56 assists, as part of a powerful Franklin attack that scored nearly 60 goals more than any other team in the Hock. He was selected as a league all-star and as an All-American. Franklin coach Lou Verrochi said of Consigli, “He’s the best off-ball player we’ve had at Franklin. Jayden is a very accurate shooter and an excellent feeder.”

Conor Noone – Foxboro – Attack
Foxboro junior attacker Conor Noone battled an early-season injury but was still one of the league’s top playmaking threats this spring. The Merrimack College commit helped the Warriors make a run to the Div. 3 quarterfinals and score the third most goals in the league. Despite missing several games, he finished the regular season with 23 goals and a team-high 31 assists and was selected as a league all-star. Foxboro coach Matt Noone said, “Conor having to deal with nagging injuries all season was still able to have a nice season! His selfless game allows his teammates to also be successful! Most teams slide early to him or shut him off and he still gets to the goal and feeds for his points. He does special things every day on the field and I enjoy watching him play!”

Justin Alexander – Franklin – FO
Franklin junior Justin Alexander continued to dominate the face-off ‘X’ for the Panthers this spring, making sure the Panthers had plenty of extra possessions for the league’s top attack to take advantage of and helping them win a ninth straight KelleyRex title and reach the Div. 1 quarterfinal. Alexander won 68 percent of his faceoffs this year, despite regularly battling some of the top face-off guys in the state. He was selected as a league all-star. Franklin coach Lou Verrochi said, “From a coaching standpoint, Justin’s our MVP because he gets us so many possessions.”

HockomockSports Second Team

Ryan DeGirolamo – Mansfield – Goalie
Mansfield junior Ryan DeGirolamo was the backbone of the Hornets this season, standing tall in the cage against some of the best offenses in the area. Although some of DeGirolamo’s stats don’t rank among the league leaders, his play in the cage certainly stood above the rest. He was a big reason that the Hornets not only reached the postseason: holding a pair of opponents to five goals inside a three-game win streak to end the season, he was a huge reason why Mansfield pulled off a major upset over league rival King Philip in the opening round.

Mark DeGirolamo– Mansfield – Defense
Mansfield senior Mark DeGirolamo capped off a successful career with the Hornets by having another standout season defensively. A three-sport star for Mansfield, DeGirolamo has been one of the most consistently good defensemen in the Hock for the past two seasons. Mansfield made a late season push for the playoffs and one big reason for their success was defense as the Hornets held Braintree and AMSA to five goals apiece, and then used a masterful defensive performance anchored by DeGirolamo to hold league rival KP to just four goals in a playoff upset. DeGirolamo, who also plays hockey, is set to continue his football career at Bridgewater State University.

Will Weiblen – King Philip – Defense
King Philip senior Will Weiblen was the go-to defenseman for a Warriors squad that allowed the fewest goals per game of any Hock team this season. Weiblen was tasked with covering some of the top attacks in the league and in the surrounding area and did an admirable all season. He recorded 34 ground balls this season and came up with 21 defensive takeaways to anchor the KP defense. “Will Weiblen was defensively assigned the quickest attackman and playmaker,” said King Philip head coach Hal Bean. “He did an outstanding job with great stick control, footwork, and speed.”

Freddy Wheaton – Attleboro – Defense
Attleboro has improved in each of the past three seasons, increasing its win total each year and one constant in that positive trend has been senior Freddy Wheaton. A very athletic defenseman, Wheaton can hang with some of the best offensive players around, using his physicality to disrupt the opponents’ rhythm and force turnovers. On top of that, Wheaton showed he can jump into the attack and made a difference there, scoring 19 goals with the long pole. “He has been our field general for four seasons,” said Attleboro head coach Kevin Patton. “He led the team in turnovers and groundballs, all while also scoring 19 goals.”

Wyatt Fritchman – Oliver Ames – Midfield
Oliver Ames senior Wyatt Fritchman had a breakout spring for a young Tigers team, being among the league’s leading scorers and eclipsing the 100-point mark for his career in the final game of the year. Fritchman had a solid junior year, but he went to another level this season, scoring 50 goals and dishing out 23 assists. He was selected as an all-star by the league’s coaches. OA coach Ben Devlin said, “Wyatt exploded offensively this year. In addition to his offensive production, Wyatt was a great midfield defender and his speed and stamina allowed him to excel on clears.”

Lincoln Moore – Foxboro – Midfield
Foxboro sophomore Lincoln Moore followed up his breakout freshman season with an even better sophomore campaign, helping the Warriors make a run to the Div. 3 quarterfinals. The HockomockSports.com Underclassman of the Year (see below), Moore led the Warriors with 45 goals and added 15 assists, as Foxboro scored the third-most goals in the league this year. He was selected as a league all-star. Foxboro coach Matt Noone said, “He has an amazing work ethic with a heavy shot! He is becoming a feeder that makes him even a bigger threat!”

Connor Ruppert – North Attleboro – Midfield
North Attleboro senior Conner Ruppert did it all during his career with the Rocketeers, showing off his versatility with the ability to successfully play a variety of positions for the Davenport division champs. There aren’t many players in the history of the league that have accomplished what Ruppert did this season as the dynamic senior tallied an impressive 70 goals, second most in the Hock, and added 27 assists to finish with 94 points in the regular season. “Connor is a player that will do whatever task the team needs,” said North Attleboro head coach Kevin Young. “He played midfield last year, played defense on man down, and is our ‘iso’ guy on attack. Connor will be playing at Bryant next year.”

John Walshe – Franklin – Midfield
Franklin junior John Walshe was an all-around performer for the Panthers this season, providing assistance on the face-offs, on the ride, in the defensive end of the field, on man-up and man-down situations, and with his playmaking. Walshe’s efforts helped the Panthers win a ninth straight Kelley-Rex title and reach the Div. 1 quarterfinal. He scored 22 goals and dished out 21 assists this season and was selected as a league all-star. Franklin coach Lou Verrochi said, “John is a very physical player with excellent speed and lacrosse IQ. I’m expecting continued excellence from him next season.”

Sam Carlino – Canton – Attack
Canton senior Sam Carlino was one of the best offensive players in the Hockomock League for the second straight season. After leading the league in scoring as a junior with over 100 points, Carlino was back at it again carving up opposing defenses and punishing goalies. He finished sixth in the regular season in scoring in the Hock, netting 61 goals (sixth most) and 37 assists (seventh most) for a total of 98 points for the Bulldogs, who finished tied for third in the Davenport. “He has a very high lacrosse IQ and an unmatched skill set has set him apart,” said Canton head coach Ryan Quinn. “His demeanor and work ethic have set a standard that will serve Canton lacrosse well.”

Tyler Sacchetti – Franklin – Attack
Franklin junior Tyler Sacchetti had a breakout spring and became part of a trio of Panthers to reach the 100-point mark this season, which helped them clinch a ninth straight league title and advance to the Div. 1 quarterfinal. He scored 54 goals and recorded 60 assists this year, breaking the school’s single-season assist record. He was selected as an all-star by the league’s coaches. Franklin coach Lou Verrochi said of Sacchetti, “Many teams made the mistake of not playing him tight. He has great vision and is a tremendous shooter and feeder.”

Carter Shelton – Attleboro – Attack
Attleboro junior Carter Shelton had a very successful year at attack for the Bombardiers, emerging as one of the best offensive players in the Hock. Attleboro improved on its win total for the third straight year, finishing with the second most in program history, and Shelton was a big reason why the Bombardiers scored a program-best 165 goals this season. Shelton is very dangerous with the ball on his stick, whether it’s finding a lane for a shot or finding an open teammate for an opportunity. He finished inside the top 10 in scoring in the Hock, netting 47 goals and adding 37 assists for a total of 84 points. “He has a real vision for the game, which allows him to create opportunities for himself and teammates,” said Attleboro head coach Kevin Patton.

Jared Vacher – North Attleboro – FO
North Attleboro put up a lot of impressive numbers on the offensive end of the field this season, but they might not have been so high if not for senior faceoff specialist Jared Vacher, one of the most vital members of the Davenport division champions. During the regular season, Vacher dominated at the ‘X’ by winning over 70% of the faceoffs he took, winning 244 out of 340. Vacher was also a key member of the North Attleboro football team that reached the state final and is committed to playing football at Tufts next season. “We simply do not have the success this year without Jared,” said North Attleboro head coach Kevin Young. “He worked very hard in the offseason to become one of the most dominant face off guys in the league and definitely the strongest we’ve had in my experience at North. In addition to being named Academic All American and an EMASS All Star, Jared will be playing football at Tufts next year.”

2022 HockomockSports Boys Lacrosse Awards
Foxboro sophomore Lincoln Moore has been selected as the 2022 HockomockSports.com Boys Lacrosse Underclassman of the Year. It is the first time the award has been given out since 2019. Moore had a breakout freshman season in 2021 and followed it up with an even more impressive sophomore campaign to help the Warriors make a run to the Div. 3 quarterfinals.

“Lincoln is one of the more imposing attackers in the league,” said HockomockSports.com Managing Editor Josh Perry. “He is so strong with the ball and he can overpower defenders around the cage, but he also has the quickness to beat slides and the creativity in his finishing that makes him a complete, all-around attacker.”

Moore led the Warriors with 45 goals this year and added 15 assists, helping Foxboro score the third most goals in the league, behind only the two division winners Franklin and North Attleboro. He also stepped up early in the season when the team’s leading scorer Conor Noone was sidelined with an injury to keep Foxboro in tough games against fellow D3 contenders. Moore was selected as an all-star by the Hockomock League coaches.

“Lincoln is a fierce competitor who reminds me of a throwback attackman back in the day,” said Foxboro coach Matt Noone. “He has an amazing work ethic with a heavy shot! He is becoming a feeder which makes him even a bigger threat! His size and strength have him drawing doubles which opens the offense for all of his teammates and he is only going to be a junior!”

Moore is the eighth straight sophomore to win this award and the first player from Foxboro to be recognized. He is only the second player from the Davenport division to be named Underclassman of the Year, following North Attleboro’s Andy DeMattio (2018).

Honorable Mentions: Donovan DeVellis (King Philip), Brady Backner (North Attleboro), Jon Sacchetti (Foxboro)

Coach of the Year – Kevin Young, North Attleboro

Coach of the Year

Kevin Young
Kevin Young

North Attleboro head coach Kevin Young has been named the 2022 HockomockSports.com Boys Lacrosse Coach of the Year after leading the Rocketeers to the Davenport division crown, the second in program history and first since 2017.

“Kevin has North Attleboro ready to compete each and every year, whether he’s molding a young squad or taking a more experienced, veteran group like this season and guiding them to a division title,” said HockomockSports.com Editor Ryan Lanigan. “Because of how the schedule was set up this year, the Rocketeers’ vital early season success was a direct result of Coach Young having his squad ready to go.”

North Attleboro had its best season in program history with an 18-3 record, with its only losses coming to league powerhouse Franklin, a one-goal non-league loss to King Philip that they avenged later on in the season in the league game, and a playoff loss to state powerhouse and eventual Division 2 state champions Longmeadow. The Davenport division had one of its most competitive seasons with Foxboro, playoff-bound Sharon, and defending champs Canton all in the mix. Even more interesting was that North’s league games against potential challengers Foxboro and Canton were the first two games of the year, and the Rocketeers earned key wins in both.

This is the second time that Young has been selected for this honor with the first time coming in 2017 when North Attleboro won its first-ever division title. It’s the fifth time a coach from the Davenport division has won; other previous Davenport winners include Foxboro’s Matt Noone (2018), Sharon’s Patrick Kelley (2014), and Canton’s Bill Bendell (2013).

Honorable Mentions: Lou Verrochi (Franklin), Matt Noone (Foxboro), Hal Bean (King Philip)
