Oliver Ames junior Chelsea Wagner has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Sept. 15 through Sept. 21. Wagner is the third athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year.
Wagner continued her terrific start to the season and helped the Tigers to three league wins last week, including victories over previously unbeaten Attleboro and Davenport title rival Canton. The junior was the team’s leading hitter in all three matches, finishing the week with 33 kills.
“Chelsea has become one of our primary hitters and has made her presence known at the net,” said Oliver Ames head coach Chelsea Cunningham. “Whether attacking the ball with power or placing with strategy, she does so with intention and purpose. Watching her make every moment count in practices and games, as well as acknowledge the growth and confidence that has complemented her performance, is incredible to see every time she’s on the court.”
The Tigers started the week with their biggest win of the season. OA won the third and fourth sets to hand fellow league leader Attleboro its first loss of the year. Wagner had a string of kills to close out the crucial third set, holding off a Bombardiers rally and putting the Tigers up 2-1. She ended up the night with 11 kills. OA took a big step towards the Davenport title on Wednesday with a sweep of Canton, opening a two-game lead over the Bulldogs. Wagner led the way offensively with a dozen kills. Two days later, OA added a dominant sweep of Sharon and again Wagner had a big day at the net, leading the Tigers with 10 kills.
