Sharon senior Penny Wooden has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Oct. 4 through Oct. 10. Wooden is the fifth athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2026-27 school year.
Wooden scored a pair of goals, had a pair of assists, and was instrumental in midfield, helping Sharon end a six-game winless streak with three victories and three clean sheets. The Eagles outscored their three opponents 12-0 this week to earn their second three-match win streak of the season and improve their chances of a home playoff game.
“Penny has been a huge presence for us all season, even while working her way back from injury,” said Sharon coach Becca Borbély. “This week, she came up big in key moments, contributing both on the score sheet and in creating opportunities for others. She brings a physical presence to the midfield and has a way of giving the team an extra boost of energy when we need it most.”
Sharon ended its winless on Tuesday with a dominant, 4-0 victory of Stoughton. The Eagles controlled the game from the start, with Wooden winning challenges and creating counterattacks while alternating between holding and attacking midfield roles. Wooden had several shots on goal, including a great chance in the second half that was denied by a point-blank save. Two days later, Wooden had a hand in all three goals in a shutout of Canton, scoring twice and setting up the third. On Saturday, Wooden continued to prowl the midfield against Attleboro, as the Eagles capped off a perfect week with a 5-0, non-league victory to sweep the season series with the Bombardiers. She also added an assist with a corner that was headed in by Esha Siao.
