King Philip senior Liv Petrillo has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for April 14 through April 20. Petrillo is the 31st athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year and fourth in the spring season.

Petrillo caught fire at the plate last week, racking up six hits and four homers in three games, driving in nine runs for the unbeaten Warriors. The Providence College-commit helped KP add three more wins to stay in a first place tie with rival Taunton atop the Kelley-Rex division standings.

“Liv had such a huge week for us,” said King Philip head coach Kate Fallon-Comeau. “She was a big spark for us offensively and came through with some timely hits and home runs. Her leadership both on and off the field has been great this season!”

In the opening game of the week, Petrillo went 1-for-3 and twice reached after being hit by a pitch, as KP ran away with an 11-0 win over Foxboro. Two days later, Petrillo smacked three homers and drove in six against visiting Milford. She hit a trio of two-run blasts, one each in the first, second, and fourth innings of the 12-0 victory. Petrillo added a fourth two-run homer just 24 hours later, as the Warriors picked up another 12-0 win, this time against Oliver Ames. On Monday morning, Petrillo kept swinging a hot bat, crushing a grand slam to lift KP to a 5-1 win against fellow D1 contender Bishop Feehan.

Player of the Week: Michael Huntington, Attleboro Baseball

Michael Huntington
By HockomockSports.com Staff

Attleboro senior Michael Huntington has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for April 7 through April 13. Huntington is the 30th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year and third in the spring season.

Huntington was instrumental in Attleboro putting together a perfect 2-0 week, helping the Bombardiers pull out a pair of thrilling one-run wins against Milford and Mansfield and stay just one back in the loss column of league-leading Taunton. He went 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored over the two games.

“Mikey has been the catalyst of our offense over the last two years,” said Attleboro head coach Steve Dunlea. “This past week against Milford and Mansfield it felt like he was always either on base or he was driving in the runs. The team feeds off his confidence and poise. He is a true leader for us.”

Attleboro had a week off in between its one-run loss to Taunton and the visit of Milford on Wednesday. The Bombardiers fell behind by four runs but put together a seventh inning rally to force extras. The rally started in the bottom of the fifth with Huntington delivering a two-out RBI double and then scored on a triple by Jeremy O’Hara that cut the deficit to one. Attleboro would tie it with a run in the seventh and win on a run in the eighth. Huntington was 2-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored, was hit by a pitch, and stole three bases in the game.

The following day at Mansfield, Attleboro scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh to secure another one-run win. Huntington doubled in the seventh to put runners at second and third with no outs and Brady Erwin delivered what turned out to be the game-winning sac fly. Huntington finished 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, drove in one and scored another run. He also made a great diving catch in foul territory with runners at second and third to get the Bombardiers out of a jam in the third inning.

Julia Monaghan
By HockomockSports.com Staff

Stoughton junior Julia Monaghan has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for March 31 through April 6. Monaghan is the 29th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year and second in the spring season.

Monaghan has been a force at the plate and in the circle for the Black Knights, helping them get off to a perfect 3-0 start to the season while outscoring teams 59-6. Stoughton leads the league in runs scored through three games and is tied for second in runs allowed. Monaghan has allowed three earned runs over 10 innings to pick up a pair of wins and has gone 6-for-10 at the plate with a homer and six runs driven in.

“Julia has brought such positivity and confidence to her game and her team this season,” said Stoughton head coach Laura Whittaker. “Her hard work in the offseason and every day at practice is evident in her play on the field. She is a tremendous pitcher, an offensive threat, and a wonderful teammate.”

In the season opener against Sharon, Monaghan picked up the win in the circle. She allowed three runs over five inning and struck out a pair, as the Black Knights rolled to a 17-3 victory. Monaghan also went 1-for-3 with an RBI. In a 24-2 win against division rival North Attleboro, Monaghan again went 1-for-3 (triple) at the plate, scoring a pair of runs, driving in one, and drawing a walk. On Friday against Southeastern, Monaghan was back in the circle and scattered three hits and allowed just one unearned run while striking out three in the 18-1 win. At the plate, she went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, and four RBI.

Player of the Week: Cole Hogencamp, Mansfield Lacrosse

Cole Hogencamp
By HockomockSports.com Staff

Mansfield sophomore Cole Hogencamp has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for March 24 through March 30. Hogencamp is the 28th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year and first in the spring season.

After a terrific rookie season, Hogencamp came out firing on all cylinders in Mansfield’s thrilling overtime win against Nauset to kick off the new season. He scored 11 points, including the game-tying and game-winning goals to lead the Hornets to a come-from-behind win at Alumni Field.

Expectations are high for the Hornets this season, but Nauset was poised to spoil the season opener, leading by a couple of goals going into the final minute. Mansfield scored to pull within one and regained possession. With just a few seconds left in regulation, Hogencamp scored his seventh goal of the night to tie it and force overtime. Nauset had the first possession in OT, but the Hornets came up with a stop. On the other end, Mansfield cleared out to give Hogencamp room space. He made a move from the ‘X’ and, with his back to goal, leapt, spun, and fired a shot over the goalie to win the game. Hogencamp finished with eight goals and three assists, having a hand in 11 of Mansfield’s 17 goals.

Player of the Week: Caden Sullivan, Franklin Basketball

Caden Sullivan
By HockomockSports.com Staff

Franklin senior Caden Sullivan has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for March 10 through March 16. Sullivan is the 27th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year and 13th in the winter season.

Sullivan capped off his career by leading the Panthers to the program’s first ever state championship. The Hockomock League’s leading scorer and Kelley-Rex division MVP, who earlier in the playoffs reached the 1,000-point mark for his career, scored 31 points in a 55-52 win in the Div. 1 final against Newton North at the Tsongas Center. That ranked in the top 30 all-time for a player in a state title game. He is the first boys basketball player to be selected as Player of the Week twice in the same season.

“What an unbelievable leader he’s been,” said Franklin head coach CJ Neely. “Obviously we wanted the ball in his hands down the stretch, simple as that. You saw all the plays he made. Sometimes as a coach, you just have to get out of the way and not over-coach. Just get the ball to your best player and let him do some work.”

Sullivan has been dominant throughout Franklin’s playoff run. The Endicott-commit scored 35 points (including 19 in the second quarter alone) in a blowout win against Shrewsbury in the opening round. In a tough Sweet Sixteen matchup against North Andover, Sullivan scored 28 points (including the 1,000th of his career), pulled down 10 rebounds, and had six steals. In the quarterfinal against Bridgewater-Raynham, he added 24 points and 10 rebounds and sank crucial free throws to hold off the Trojans down the stretch. In the Final Four against Central Catholic, Sullivan scored a game-high 20 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter as the Panthers broke open a tie game and clinched a spot in the program’s fourth state title game.

On Sunday night in Lowell, Sullivan was once again in control for the Panthers. He scored 15 of his game-high 31 points in the first half, helping Franklin rally from an early deficit to take a three-point lead at the break. His three-point play late in the third quarter answered a big run from Newton North and kept the Panthers in the lead (42-37) going to the fourth. Sullivan kept finding ways to score in the fourth, sinking an elbow jumper and finishing a put-back to keep the lead. He went to the line with six seconds left and sank a pair of clutch free throws, his final high school points, to put the Panthers up three.

Player of the Week: John Woodall, Franklin Wrestling

John Woodall
By HockomockSports.com Staff

Franklin freshman John Woodall has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for March 2 through March 10. Woodall is the 26th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year and 12th in the winter season.

Woodall closed out his remarkable, undefeated rookie season by winning Franklin’s first New England title since 2010. The New England title was added to a trophy-laden freshman campaign, which included first-place finishes at the Lowell Holiday Tournament, the Hockomock Championship meet, Div. 1 states, and All-States. Woodall was the first male New England champ from the Hock since Milford’s Hampton Kaye-Kuter in 2022. Milford senior Michael Boulanger followed shortly after by winning the New England title at 157.

“Johnny is an extremely hard working kid that with infectious smile his competitiveness really rubbed off on the entire team,” said Franklin head coach Cam Kelly.

At the New England Championship in Providence, Woodall opened his run to the title with a major decision (11-2) in the opening round. He pinned his quarterfinal opponent right at the end of the first period, while leading 7-2. In the semifinal, Woodall dominated his opponent from Xavier (Conn.), winning 11-4 to advance to the final and a rematch with Greater Lowell’s Antoine Jackman. At All-States, Woodall won 5-3 and the match was even tighter this time around. Woodall came out on top 5-4 to claim the title. He finished the season 54-0 and became just the second freshman in Massachusetts history to record an undefeated season. He went the entire year with only one opposing wrestler able to score a takedown against him.

Player of the Week: Ryan Kelley, Foxboro Basketball

Ryan Kelley
By HockomockSports.com Staff

Foxboro senior Ryan Kelley has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Feb. 23 through March 1. Kelley is the 25th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year and 11th in the winter season.

Kelley came through with a big double-double in Foxboro’s Div. 3 state tournament opening round win over Stoneham on Thursday night. He scored 14 points and pulled down 14 rebounds (six of them on the offensive glass), as the Warriors secured a spot in the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since the new statewide format was introduced.

“Ryan played an incredible game against Stoneham,” said Foxboro head coach Jon Gibbs, “He’s always a reliable shooter, but he took it to another level with his rebounding and defense. He made countless winning hustle plays that set the tone for our team to get a huge state tournament win.”

Against a Stoneham team that was much better than its No. 44 seed would indicate (its record was affected by forfeits from early in the season), Kelley put together a terrific all-around performance to help the Warriors pick up the win. Battling against Stoneham’s 6-foot-7 center Tony Dean, Kelley made several notable hustle plays, including a big offensive rebound that allowed Foxboro to grab the lead before halftime. He also grabbed an offensive board off a missed free throw that turned into a three-point play to extend the lead early in the second half. Kelley also knocked down the dagger, Foxboro’s only three of the second half, that put the Warriors up by 12 with just five minutes to play. Foxboro will travel to No. 5 Greater Lawrence Tech in the next round.

Milford senior Michael Boulanger has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Feb. 17 through Feb. 23. Boulanger is the 24th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year and 10th in the winter season.

The Duke University commit continued his unbeaten season (47-0) by winning the Div. 2 state title at 157 pounds and helped the Hawks run away with a third D2 team championship in the past four seasons. This added to Milford’s fifth straight Kelley-Rex title and its second straight team title at the Hockomock Wrestling Championships.

“Mikey has had a dominant senior season heading into All States,” said Milford head coach PJ Boccia. “He is one of Milford’s all-time best wrestlers and is an exceptional scholar-athlete. He will be continuing his academic and wrestling career at Duke University next year. ”

Boulanger was the top seed entering the D2 state meet at Salem High. He made quick work of all four matches to win his second consecutive state title. Boulanger won by tech fall (19-3) over his first opponent from Bridgewater-Raynham (which finished second to Milford in the team standings). He earned a pin over his opponent from Minnechaug (which edged the Hawks to win last year’s D2 team title) and then dominated his semifinal match, beating the wrestler from Marblehead/Swampscott 15-0. Boulanger led second-seed Marco Albanese of Melrose 9-2 in the final before ending the match with a pin in just over a minute. For his career, he is 177-23 overall, a three-time sectional champion, and Milford’s first-ever three-time state champion.
