North Attleboro senior Chase Frisoli has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Sept. 23 through Sept. 29. Frisoli is the fourth athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year.

Frisoli had a big week, as Big Red opened league play with a dominating win over Oliver Ames. The senior quarterback accounted for five touchdowns, including one on the ground and four through the air, all in the first half as North scored 51 points and continued its perfect start to the season.

“Chase has been a terrific captain and leader of our offense this season,” North Attleboro coach Mike Strachan said. “He is a dynamic player that can make plays with his arm and feet. He has great command of the offense and has made big plays for us all year.”

North’s offense exploded for 51 points on Friday night. Frisoli kicked things off with a 12-yard rushing score and added two more TDs through the air in the opening quarter. He hit Bryce Kiser for a 69-yard touchdown and, following a safety, found Ryan Bannon for a 26-yard score. In the second quarter, Frisoli connected on two more touchdown passes. The first was a 22-yarder to Conor Casey and the other was a 68-yarder to Kiser. Frisoli was 7-of-8 for 278 yards on the day. North now leads the league in most points scored (162) and fewest points allowed (28).

Player of the Week: Reagan Lewis, Stoughton Volleyball

Reagan Lewis

By HockomockSports.com Staff

Stoughton senior Reagan Lewis has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Sept. 16 through Sept. 22. Lewis is the third athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year.

Lewis had a dominant week at the net for the Black Knights. She recorded 40 kills in two matches, helping Stoughton pick up a pair of key victories, move back to .500 in league play, and build momentum before the Black Knights head into a stretch of matches against some of the Hock’s top teams.

“There was something different about her swing this past week and she was swinging with power rather than playing it safe,” said Stoughton head coach Tricia Lewis. “The amount of work she puts in really paid off for her and I hope she continues to show the teams in the Hock her ability to compete against any team.”

Stoughton started the week with a visit from Taunton. Lewis, a Regis College-commit, set a new career high with 29 kills in the four-set win. She also chipped in with three aces, as the Black Knights got back in the win column. In the opening set, Lewis set the tone with 14 kills in the first set. On Friday, Stoughton went on the road and swept Foxboro. Lewis again paced the offense with 11 kills and put in a solid all-around game to secure the win. For the week, she helped the Knights to two wins with 40 kills, 26 digs, and seven aces.

Player of the Week: Raena Crandall, Franklin Field Hockey

Raena Crandall

By HockomockSports.com Staff

Franklin senior Raena Crandall has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Sept. 9 through Sept. 15. Crandall is the second athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year.

Crandall scored five times and dished out one assist last week, bringing her point total to 11 for the season, as the Panthers rolled to two more league wins. Franklin is now unbeaten in 82 straight Hockomock League games dating back to 2018 and has outscored opponents 28-0 through its first four games. Crandall already has 10 goals and an assist this fall.

“Raena is a highly skilled player who uses her stick skills and speed to get by defenders,” said Franklin head coach Michelle Hess. “Raena has a variety of shots that she uses to keep opposing goalies guessing and her reverse sweep and chip shot are very strong and accurate. I predict another big year for Raena this season and I’m excited to witness her accomplish her goals.”

After starting the season with two goals, including the game-winner in a 6-0 win over Oliver Ames and following that up with a pair of goals in a dominating win over Kelley-Rex rival King Philip. On Tuesday, Crandall and the Panthers kept it rolling against Foxboro with a 7-0 victory in the battle of defending league champs. Crandall assisted on Haley Wernig’s first quarter opener and added an unassisted goal in the fourth to help the Panthers pull away from the Warriors. Two days later, Crandall scored four times to help Franklin beat Taunton 8-0. She opened the scoring (her second game-winner of the season) in the first and added a pair of unassisted goals in the second. Crandall scored her fourth in the third quarter.

Player of the Week: Harold Smith, Oliver Ames Football

Harold Smith

By HockomockSports.com Staff

Oliver Ames senior Harold Smith has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Sept. 2 through Sept. 8. Smith is the first athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2024-25 school year.

Smith came through with two clutch touchdowns and a game-ending interception to help OA rally from two scores down and pick up a thrilling 27-21 win over visiting Archbishop Williams in its first game under new head coach John Sperrazza. On the night, he finished with five catches for 212 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

“Harold had a phenomenal game Friday night, he really stepped up when we needed to make a play,” Sperrazza said. “He’s almost like a running back playing wide receiver with how strong and physical he runs with the ball after a catch. Once we saw press coverage on the outside, we took our shot with Harold one on one and it paid off big time to tie the game. Then he was able to catch a short pass, make two guys miss and outrun them to the end zone for the game winning touchdown. I think it was only fitting for him to get the game ending interception. Great effort by Harold all night.”

After a big defensive stand kept the Tigers within one score in the fourth quarter, Smith went up and hauled in a pass from Patrick DeLoughrey down the right sideline, sprinting away from the Archies secondary for an 80-yard score. The two-point conversion tied the game at 21 apiece. The defense forced another punt and Smith grabbed a short pass on the right side, spun towards the sideline, shook off a couple of would-be tacklers, and raced 65 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 2:19 to go. Archies got as far as the OA 26 with just two seconds remaining, but Smith came down with the final pass to the end zone, sealing the dramatic win.

Player of the Week: Brooke Aldrich, Taunton Softball

Brooke Aldrich

By HockomockSports.com Staff

Taunton junior Brooke Aldrich has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for June 10 through June 16. Aldrich is the 38th and final athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2023-24 school year and 12th in the spring season.

Aldrich caught fire in the postseason, powering Taunton to a fourth straight Div. 1 state championship and a perfect 25-0 record. The junior shortstop hit five home runs, drove in 13, and scored eight runs during Taunton’s five playoff games, continuing a trend she started as a sophomore of picking up her game on the biggest stage.

“She just exudes this confidence in the postseason that I’ve never seen,” Taunton coach Michelle Raposo said of Aldrich, who also drove in six runs during last year’s title run. “She has it in the regular season, but once it comes time to play she says, ‘I’m here to play and I want to make a name for myself.’ It’s just awesome to see.”

Aldrich started the playoff with a bang, hitting a pair of two-run homers as Taunton rolled over Lexington in five innings. She added a two-run homer in the second game against Newton North, which turned out to be the winning runs, and added an RBI single, while making a couple of important relay throws to keep runners from getting into scoring position. In the quarterfinal win over Methuen, Aldrich had a hand in six of Taunton’s first seven runs, including a three-run homer in the first and a sac fly in the fourth inning.

Runs were a little harder to come by against Central Catholic in the Final Four, but Aldrich delivered again, singling to center in the first inning to bring in Aniyah Bailey with the only run of the game. In Saturday’s final at UMass, Aldrich smashed a solo homer off the scoreboard in leftfield to push the Taunton lead to 5-0, as the Tigers beat rival King Philip and clinched another state championship.

Alex Guerra
By HockomockSports.com Staff

Milford senior Alex Guerra has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for June 3 through June 9. Guerra is the 37th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2023-24 school year and 11th in the spring season.

Guerra reached unprecedented heights this week when he became the first Milford player to record 1,000 career kills, helping the Hawks win a pair of playoff games and reach the Div. 1 Final Four. It is the second year in a row that Milford has reached the state semifinal, making it to the same stage in D2 last spring. He has 51 kills in three playoff matches, 318 on the season, and goes into Monday’s semifinal on 1,002 for his career.

“Alex has saved his best and most consistent play of the season for the tournament,” said Milford coach Andrew Mainini. “Not only has be been an offensive force against strong competition, he’s helped anchor our serve receive and defense. He’s an indispensable member of our team!”

The Hawks opened the playoffs with a sweep of No. 29 Newton South. In the Sweet Sixteen, Milford rallied from one set down to beat No. 13 Lincoln-Sudbury. Guerra was instrumental in turning around the match against the Warriors. He finished with 20 kills and an ace but also contributed strong defense along the back line (25 digs and 56 service receptions in three playoff matches) and at the service line (97% serve percentage in the postseason). He got stronger as the match with L-S went on, contributing six kills in the decisive fourth set. Guerra added another 15 kills and two aces in the quarterfinal sweep of Methuen, including the 1,000th of his career midway through the third set. Milford reached the Final Four to get a rematch with top seed and three-time defending state champ Needham, which rallied to beat the Hawks in five sets in the regular season.

Player of the Week: Dylan Cummings, Sharon Lacrosse

Dylan Cummings
By HockomockSports.com Staff

Sharon senior Dylan Cummings has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for May 27 through June 2. Cummings is the 36th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2023-24 school year and 10th in the spring season.

Cummings, who had 84 points (50 goals and 34 assists) and was the third-leading scorer in the Hockomock League during the regular season, had a hand in nearly half of Sharon’s goals in a 15-5 victory over Davenport rival Canton in the opening round of the Div. 2 state tournament. He finished with seven points (four goals and three assists) to help the Eagles secure a spot in the Sweet Sixteen.

After a triple-OT loss to the Bulldogs in the regular season, Sharon took advantage of the opportunity to exact some revenge on their home field. The game was tied at 1-1 after the first quarter, but Cummings popped up with the go-ahead goal early in the second, sparking Sharon to a four-goal lead by halftime. He would finished with four goals and three assists, partnering with classmate Sam Rothbaum (four goals and one assist) to break the game open and lift the Eagles to an eighth straight win. Cummings and the Eagles will face the winner of Walpole/Whitman-Hanson in the next round at a date and time to be determined.

Player of the Week: Hannah Farber, Oliver Ames Tennis

Hannah Farber
By HockomockSports.com Staff

Oliver Ames junior Hannah Farber has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for May 20 through May 26. Farber is the 35th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2023-24 school year and ninth in the spring season.

Farber closed out an impressive junior campaign by picking up another win in the regular season finale against Sharon, capping an unbeaten spring. The Tigers No. 1 singles player didn’t drop a set all season, as OA narrowly missed out on a playoff spot by a single victory.

OA went into the week needing to win out to clinch a playoff berth. The Tigers nearly made it happen, beating Foxboro 4-1 and Stoughton 3-2, extending their wins streak to four games, but were unable to hand Sharon its first league loss of the season in the finale. Farber was instrumental in getting OA on the brink of postseason qualification. She won all three of her matches to finish 16-0 on the season. Farber beat her opponent from Foxboro 6-0, 6-2; won 6-1, 6-2 against Stoughton; and made it a sweep of Sharon with a 6-4, 6-3 victory on the final day.

Player of the Week: Dmitrius Shearrion, Taunton Track

Dmitrius Shearrion
By HockomockSports.com Staff

Taunton senior Dmitrius Shearrion has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for May 13 through May 19. Shearrion is the 34th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2023-24 school year and eighth in the spring season.

Shearrion won three title, two individual and one relay, this weekend at the annual Hockomock League Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Milford High. He sprinted to impressive wins in both the 100 and 200 meters and ran the anchor leg as the Tigers took first in the 4×100 relay as well. With Shearrion leading the way, the Tigers earned 76 points, which was good for a tie with Davenport division champion Mansfield for second place, behind only Kelley-Rex champ Attleboro.

On a rainy, chilly day in Milford, Shearrion didn’t let the weather slow him down. He sped to a win in the 100 meters in a time of 11.11, which was 0.22 faster than Myles Brown of Mansfield. It was a similar story in the 200 meters, with Shearrion taking first in a time of 22.13, which was nearly a second faster than Franklin’s Theo Yetman. He then joined with Omari Rodrigues, Usman Yusif, and Brayden Salvo to bring home the 4×100 relay title, running the final leg to finish in a time of 43.52, almost a half-second faster than the team from Franklin.

Player of the Week: Noah Minkwitz, King Philip Lacrosse

Noah Minkwitz
By HockomockSports.com Staff

King Philip senior Noah Minkwitz has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for May 6 through May 12. Minkwitz is the 33rd athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2023-24 school year and seventh in the spring season.

Minkwitz came through with several big games for the Warriors, helping them go 3-0 and win for the sixth time in the last seven games, clinching a spot in the state tournament in the process. He finished the week with seven goals and one assist, including the game-winning score in the closing seconds against Hopkinton, and is second on the team with 29 goals and 44 points.

Coming off a tough, one-goal loss to Nantucket on Sunday, KP bounced back with a dominant win over Attleboro on Monday. Minkwitz tallied once in the 13-1 victory. The Warriors then faced North Attleboro in a game that took place over two days because of the weather. Minkwitz had a hat trick, as the Warriors pulled away for a 13-5 non-league win and a split of the season series. On Saturday against Hopkinton, Minkwitz got his second hat trick in as many games and dished out an assist as well. The Warriors rallied to tie the game with a minute left and, as the clock ticked down, Donovan DeVellis swung the ball over to Minkwitz, who ripped a shot past the goalie to beat the buzzer and secure a 9-8 win.
