Attleboro senior Jessica Gates has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Nov. 1 through Nov. 7. Gates is the fifth player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2020-21 school year.
Gates closed out the regular season with impressive performances against King Philip and Mansfield to help Attleboro grab a pair of wins and build momentum heading into the league’s cup competition. With two goals and an assist, the senior midfielder helped the Bombardiers win the season series with the Warriors and finish even over three games with the Hornets (1-1-1).
“Jess is a player who has great vision on the field,” said Attleboro coach Steve Santos. “She is shifty while dribbling and has the ability to quickly change directions at any moment. Her gameplay is consistent and she can play strong defensively or offensively.”
After Attleboro’s games with Franklin were canceled, the Bombardiers added a third game with KP. Gates provided the assist for Briley Harnois’ opening goal and then doubled the lead with a goal of her own, which turned out to be the game-winner. On Friday night, Gates again scored the game-winner, as her opening goal against the Hornets proved to be enough in a 2-0 victory.
Not just a playmaker, Gates was also instrumental in Attleboro’s defensive performances last week with her energy and tackling in the midfield. The Bombardiers will be the fourth seed in the Kelley-Rex during this week’s Hockomock Cup and will take on Davenport division champ Canton in the first round.
The Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, is selected by the HockomockSports.com staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at midnight. There may be a poll posted on every Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
