D1 South

#13 Marshfield, 0 @ #4 Taunton, 6 – FinalTaunton senior Jack Moynihan tossed his second straight complete game shutout, this time lifting the Tigers in their tournament opener against Marshfield. Moynihan scattered five hits and one walk across seven innings, striking out 12 to earn the win. Taunton scored three runs in the second inning and tacked on one more in each the third, fourth, and sixth innings. Nic Notarangelo (run), Logan Lawrence, and Evan Melo (run) each had a hit and an RBI for the Tigers. Lucas Martins, Colby Lariviere (two walks), Jared Roderick, and Andrew Gomes each had a hit for Taunton as well. The Tigers will host #12 Catholic Memorial, who knocked off #5 Plymouth North 1-0, on Monday at 4:00.

#11 Attleboro, 5 @ #6 Barnstable, 3 – FinalAttleboro raced out to a 4-0 lead over the first three innings and Ryan Morry (4.1 IP, 1ER, 4K) and Eoin Kelleher combined to tame Barnstable to earn the upset on the road. The Bombardiers scored once in the first, twice in the second, and once more in the third. After the Raiders got on the board with runs in the third and fourth, Attleboro pushed the lead to 5-2 with a run in the sixth. Barnstable loaded the bases in the sixth with one out but Kelleher limited the hosts to one run and pitched a 1-2-3 final inning to secure the win. In the first, Alvaro Espinal (1-for-2, two walks, stolen base) singled, stole second and scored on a single from Camden Fitzpatrick (two RBI). In the second, both Troy Gamache (two hits) and Tim Callahan scored, the latter driving in the former, who then scored on a sac fly from Fitzpatrick. Nick McMahon drove in Morry in the third to make it 4-0. In the sixth, Gamache drove in Mason Houle with a double. Attleboro will now host #14 Bridgewater-Raynham, who upset #3 Natick 5-1, on Monday at 4:00 at Hayward Field.

D2 South
#9 Milton, 7 @ #8 North Attleboro, 2 – FinalMilton raced out to a 4-0 lead over the first two innings and never looked back to knock off the defending D2 State Champions. Jake Carroll had a pinch-hit RBI to get the Rocketeers on the board in the seventh and Kyle Bolger launched a solo home run in the seventh for North. Rocketeers coach Mike Hart said Dennis Colleran had a tremendous relief outing.

#11 Oliver Ames, 1 @ #6 Duxbury, 0 – FinalOliver Ames senior Reid Latham pitched a gem, tossing a complete game shutout to lead the Tigers to an upset win on the road at Duxbury. Latham scattered five hits and two walks while striking out nine to earn the win. The Tigers were able to manufacture a run against Duxbury ace Charlie Coon (7IP, 3H, 3BB, 14K) in the fourth inning. Junior Jacob Levine reached on a walk, pinch-runner Justin Sarnecki stole second, and scored on an error. Jake Erlich, Nate Fulford, and Latham each had a single in the win. Junior Kyle O’Connor had the defensive play of the game for the Tigers, fielding the ball in right with his bare hand and gunning a runner at the plate in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers will now travel to #3 Dartmouth on Monday at 4:00.

#13 Milford, 13 @ #4 Southeastern, 3 – FinalMilford’s offense exploded for 13 runs to earn an upset on the road at fourth-seeded Southeastern. Justin Applebee continued his strong season at the plate with three hits and a walk, scoring four runs while driving in a run. Tyler Almeida had two hits, a walk, a run scored and drove in three runs while Danny Corsini had two hits, a walk, and a run scored. Corsini earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out six in a complete game effort. Milford awaits the winner of #5 Stoughton and #12 Greater New Bedford, which is on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Stoughton High.

D1 South

#20 Foxboro, 5 @ #13 Dedham, 8 – FinalCamryn Willis pitched a “terrific game,” according to head coach Mark Maguire, striking out three and allowing just seven hits in the loss. The Warriors got two hits apiece from Peyton Feldman, Chelsea Gibbons, and Morgan Sylvestre.

Boys Lacrosse
D1 South

#7 Natick, 2 @ #2 Franklin, 10 – FinalThe Panthers put on a defensive clinic, limiting the visitors to just two goals on 10 total shots to advance to the D1 South Semifinals. Franklin’s defensive unit of Pat Morrison, Liam Arsenault, and Spencer Briggs, along with close D Will Harvey and Luc Sweeney limited Natick from getting many good looks throughout the night. Franklin led 5-1 at halftime and held the visitors to just one goal through three quarters. Nitin Chaudhury had three goals and an assist, Matt Lazzaro scored twice with two helpers, Jake Davis netted a pair of goals with one assist, and Ben Kolb and Harvey each scored once. Jacob Alexander won 13-of-16 faceoffs while Will Davis made seven saves in net. The Panthers await the winner of #3 Xaverian and #6 Duxbury, which will be played on Friday at 5:00. Franklin will play the winner on Monday.

D2 Central/East
#5 Westwood, 10 @ #4 Foxboro, 8 – FinalCharlie Baughan, Bobby Yerardi, and Aidan Stapleton each scored twice but the Warriors saw their lead slip away in the final minutes of the game. Foxboro held an 8-7 lead with 6:50 to go but Westwood scored twice to take the with just under three minutes to go. Foxboro had one final chance in the last minute but couldn’t convert its chance and the Wolverines added an empty net goal. Pete Conley and Brendan Tully each scored once while freshman Matt Tully made 11 saves.

Girls Lacrosse
D1 East

#7 Hopkinton, 11 @ #2 Franklin, 19 – Final
#8 King Philip, 9 @ #1 Walpole, 21 – Final

Boys Lacrosse
Franklin, 17 vs. Newton North, 8 – FinalClick here for a Photo Gallery from this game. Owen Palmieri and Jake Davis each scored four goals and Matt Lazzaro had a hat trick, as the Panthers stayed unbeaten after their biggest test of the season so far. Will Davis made 13 saves in goal and Jacob Alexander (two goals) dominated the face-off ‘X’, winning 20-of-24 and losing only one of the 14 face-offs in the first half. Newton North scored a minute into the second quarter to close the gap to 5-4 but the Panthers rolled off an 11-2 run and scored 12 goals over the final 30 minutes of the game. Ben Greco fed Ben Kolb for a man-up goal to make it 6-4 and eight seconds later Alexander found Lazzaro for another goal. Kolb picked out Nitin Chaudhury with a great diagonal feed to add another score before half. Palmieri made it 9-4 early in the second with a goal while practically lying on the ground and the Panthers answered a Newton North goal by scoring twice in 11 seconds, first on a behind-the-back shot from Lazzaro and then Alexander went bar-down after another face-off win. Jake Davis and Palmieri added goals before the end of the third, both assisted by Greco, and Franklin had pulled away to lead 14-6 by the end of the third.

Girls Lacrosse
King Philip, 17 @ Framingham, 7 – FinalCaroline Klim scored four times and Dana Truini, Lily Brown, and Victoria Tormey all recorded hat tricks as the Warriors went on the road to pick up a non-league win against a potential playoff opponent. Truini added seven draw controls and Haley Izydorczak scored a pair of goals in the win.

Wednesday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 04/12/17

Baseball
Canton, 3 @ Milford, 11 – FinalMilford scored two runs in the first and another run in the second, but really broke the game open with eight runs in the fifth inning. The Scarlet Hawks erupted for 14 hits as a team with five players recording at least a pair of hits. Aidan Wilde and Zack Tamagni each had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored for Milford. Nate Irwin got the win, striking out four in five inning sof work with one earned allowed on five hits.

Foxboro, 0 @ Stoughton, 1 – FinalStoughton took advantage of a lead off walk in the second inning, turning it into the lone run of the game. Sophomore Evan Gibb drew the walk and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Ruben Gonzalez. Stoughton senior Ryan Sullivan threw a complete game shutout, scattering three hits with just one walk, fanning three batters for the win. Foxboro’s Aaron Wentling had a strong outing on the mound, allowing just five hits while striking out five in six innings of work.

Oliver Ames, 9 @ King Philip, 4 – FinalOliver Ames overcame an early 2-0 deficit, taking a 3-2 lead in the third inning. The Tigers then tacked on three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to create a big lead. Kyle Gagliardi went 3-for-5 with an RBI to lead OA while Alden Newman was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Head coach Joe Abarr noted Newman also had a terrific game defensively as well. Senior Sam Burr threw 6.1 innings, striking out three without issuing a walk, giving up three earned runs on eight hits.

Sharon, 0 @ North Attleboro, 8 – FinalNorth Attleboro’s offense got going early, plating a pair of runs in the first while tacking on single runs in the third and fifth innings. Big Red broke the game open with a four-run sixth inning. Junior Nate Pearce tossed a complete game shutout on just 74 pitches, allowing three hits while striking out four batters to earn the win. At the plate, Pearce was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and pair of RBI. Nick Crawley went 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly, finishing with three RBI and Jeff Gale added three hits for the Rocketeers.

Softball
Mansfield, 5 @ Attleboro, 4 – FinalSarah Cahill picked up the win for the Hornets, allowing seven hits and had five strikeouts. Sarah Bradley went 2-for-2 to lead the Hornets offensively and Liz Mackin, Kerran Holmes, Hayley McGowan and Caty Demassi all had hits in the win. Amanda Giambanco made a big play in right to double up a runner on third to end the sixth inning.

Milford, 21 @ Canton, 0 – Final (5 inn.)Milford’s Ali Atherton and Maggie Farrell each knocked in five runs as Milford rolled to a big win. Atherton went 3-for-3 with a pair of triples and five RBI while Farrell was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, a triple and five RBI. Emily Piergustavo went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, two walks and five runs scored while Kate Irwin also went 3-for-3 with a double and four runs scored.

Stoughton, 2 @ Foxboro, 3 – FinalHannah Davis provided a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Foxboro the win in its delayed season opener. Jamie Gorham led off the inning with a base hit and was moved into scoring position by a Kelly McCarthy bunt. Davis ripped a hit to left to score the winning run. Kelly Fisher had two hits and two RBI for the Warriors and Emma Rohan went the distance for the win. Gina Carafa gave up only one earned run in 6-2/3 innings for the Black Knights.

Taunton, 10 @ Franklin, 3 – FinalCourtney Fisher allowed one earned run to pick up her fifth win of the season. Kya Enos had a home run and a double and drove in three runs for the Tigers, while Hailey Medeiros had a double, triple, and two RBI and Katie Van Zandt had a pair of hits. Eighth grader McKenzie McAloon added her first career varsity hit and RBI in the win.

King Philip, 6 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – FinalOliver Ames scored in the first inning and loaded the bases in the second, but couldn’t add any more damage as KP picked up the win. OA’s Victoria Ziner was 2-3 with a pair of doubles and a run scored and Rachel Han had an RBI for the Tigers. Kayla Georgeu struck out two in a complete game effort for OA.

North Attleboro, 12 @ Sharon, 1 – FinalNorth Attleboro junior Amelia Murphy had a big day for the Rocketeers, tossing a one-hitter with nine strikeouts to earn the win while also hitting a home run at the plate. Andrea Miceli added three hits, Meg Barlow and Liz Morehouse each had two hits and Kristina Murphy had a three-run triple for the Rocketeers.

Boys Lacrosse
Attleboro, 1 @ Franklin, 19 – FinalEleven different players found the back of the net as Franklin rolled to its second league win. Four players scored their first career goals for the Panthers; sophomore Cam Sweeney had two goals and one assist, junior Scott Ehrenberg (5/8 on face offs) scored once and sophomores Ben Kolb and Aaron Mollo each netted one goal. Sophomore Jacob Alexander won 14 of 16 face offs. Junior Connor O’Rourke made five saves in net and sophomore Will Davis made three saves in the cage for Franklin.

Canton, 13 @ Milford, 2 – FinalCanton built a commanding 12-0 lead by halftime to pick up a win over the Hawks. Ryan Lodge led all scorers with four goals and three assists for the Bulldogs. Junior Joey Vaughan and freshman James Murphy each scored their first career goals in the win. Canton’s Jack Connolly, CJ Martin, and Dylan Cunningham split time in goal and each played well according to head coach Bill Bendell.

Stoughton, 2 @ Foxboro, 14 – FinalFoxboro’s Louis Piccolo scored four goals to pace the Warriors’ offense. Sam Blake added two goals while Brendan Tully had three assists.

King Philip, 7 @ Mansfield, 6 – FinalKing Philip scored the final two goals of the game, turning a deficit into a win over the Hornets. John DeLuca scored with four minutes to play to tie the game 6-6 and then with under two minutes to play, senior Tim Watson scored his goal of the game, which turned out to be the game-winner. Head coach Jamie Stefanini praised the team’s defensive effort, highlighting Connor Khung’s shutdown performance. Paul Macrina made 14 saves in the cage for the Warriors. Colin DeVellis added two goals for KP while Mike Curtain and Ben Palmer each scored once.

North Attleboro, 11 @ Oliver Ames, 4 – FinalNorth Attleboro put on a dominant performance in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 7-1 to pull away and earn a league win on the road. Zach McGowan (three assists), Tommy Lindstrom (assist) and Colin Young each scored a pair of goals to pace the Rocketeers’ offense. Dan MacDonald and Jack Dakin each had a goal and an assist while Owen Costello and Andy DeMattio each scored once. Hunter Sarro and Nick Moore each recorded an assist. North Attleboro’s Jack Puccio (four saves) and Jake McNeany (five saves) split time in the cage for North.

Franklin, 19 @ Attleboro, 0 – FinalEleven players scored a goal in Franklin’s win and 13 players recorded at least a point for the Panthers. Hailey Toolin had three goals, Grace Platner and Kelsey MacCallum each had two goals and a pair of assists and Lauren DeStefano had four draw controls for Franklin.

Taunton, 0 @ Franklin, 5 – FinalFranklin senior Rahul Herur won a competitive match at first singles while the Panthers won all five matches in straight sets. Herur won 7-5, 6-2 while Eli Brooks won 6-1, 6-1 at second singles and Rohan Herur won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles. James Johnston and Derek Wu won 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles and Tyler DiPalma and Rahul Hosdurg won 6-3, 6-0 at second doubles for the Panthers.

King Philip, 5 @ Oliver Ames, 0 – FinalKing Phillip won all five matches in straight sets, only dropping one single game in an impressive performance. Cole Ginter and Blake Ginter won 6-0, 6-0 at first and second singles, respectively while Martin Martous won 6-1, 6-0. The doubles teams of Ryan Gemelli and Sam Collella (first doubles) and Aidan Ignatius and Marco DiStefano (second) both won 6-0, 6-0.

North Attleboro, 1 @ Sharon, 4 – FinalIt was a clean sweep in singles play for the Eagles, who got another win at first doubles. Senior Griffin Fein won 6-2, 6-2 at first singles, junior Fred Bondar won 6-1, 6-1 at second singles and Danujan Thirumavalavan won 6-1, 6-1 at third singles. The team of senior Alex Romantz and freshman Alberto Olivei won 6-1, 6-0 at first doubles. North Attleboro’s Andrew Harris and Vikram Senthilakumaran won 6-1, 6-4 at second doubles.

Girls Tennis
Attleboro, 1 @ Mansfield, 4 – FinalMansfield senior Paulina Martin won in straight sets without dropping a single game at first singles to pace the Hornets. Junior Sarah Doyle won 6-0, 6-3 at second singles and Elizabeth Elsner won 6-3, 6-1 at third singles for the Hornets. Senior Chloe Peters and sophomore Tessa Garufi won 6-2, 6-0 at second doubles for Mansfield. Attleboro senior Katie Furtado and Brooklyn Palermo won 7-6, 6-3 at second doubles.

Canton @ Milford, 4:00

Foxboro, 5 @ Stoughton, 0 – FinalFoxboro notched a clean sweep, winning all three singles matches without losing a single game. Sophia Prinos, Lexi Nelson and Julia Muise each won 6-0, 6-0 at first, second and third singles, respectively. Kayla Prag and Olivia Dantona won 6-3, 6-2 at first doubles and Kendall Milender and Morgan Krockta won 6-1, 6-3 at second doubles.

Sharon, 3 @ North Attleboro, 2 – FinalSharon won all three singles matches in impressive fashion while the Rocketeers won both doubles games. Sophomore Nupur Shukla won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles, freshman Emily Zhang won 6-1, 6-1 at second singles and junior Lulu Yuan won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles. North’s Gabby Duva and Azka Siddiq won 6-1, 6-2 at first doubles and Katie Demontigny and Hana Hershey rallied to win 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (10-8) at second doubles.

Boys Volleyball
Milford, 2 vs. Xaverian, 3 – Final

Taunton, 1 @ Barnstable, 3 – FinalTaunton suffered its first loss of the season, losing 25-21, 26-24, 17-25, 25-20 to Barnstable. Lens Esquil had 14 kills, two blocks and an ace while Lance Law had 14 kills, two aces and a block for the Tigers.
