Joey Benoit 2026 HockomockSports Baseball Awards
Taunton senior first baseman Joey Benoit has been named the 2026 HockomockSports Baseball Player of the Year. Benoit was one of the most dangerous offensive players in the Hockomock League this season and a major piece for the Kelley-Rex division champion Tigers.

“Joey was one of the most talented hitters in the league this spring and one of the toughest at-bats around,” said HockomockSports Editor Ryan Lanigan. “He had a great approach at the plate, showed a ton of patience, and when pitchers made mistakes, he made them pay. His power was a big reason Taunton was able to win another Kelley-Rex title, and he was a constant threat to change the game every time he stepped into the box.”

Benoit, who was also selected as the Hockomock League Kelley-Rex MVP by the coaches, was a force in the middle of Taunton’s lineup. The Brown commit batted .373 with a 1.280 OPS, belting 25 hits with 17 going for extra bases, including six home runs. He also drew 13 walks, scored 18 runs, and drove in 20 for the Tigers. Benoit also gave Taunton a steady defensive presence at first base while anchoring one of the top lineups in the league.

“Time and time again, Joey delivered for us in the biggest moments with clutch hits, tape-measure home runs, and tough picks at first base,” said Taunton head coach Blair Bourque. “His impact on both sides of the game is what made him the Hockomock League MVP. More importantly, Joey’s impact on our team and program goes far beyond any statistic. His work ethic, leadership, and character set the standard for what it means to be a Taunton Tiger.”

Benoit is the third Taunton player to earn the honor, joining Ryan MacDougall in 2022 and Luke Figueira in 2016. Other former winners include Foxboro’s Ryan O’Leary (2025), Mansfield’s Jake Maydak (2024) and Tyler Dalton (2018), Franklin’s Alex Haba (2019), Stoughton’s Justin Hutchinson (2017), Oliver Ames’ Brendan Welch (2015) and David MacKinnon (2013), and Attleboro’s Max Lancaster (2014).

Coach of the Year – Jeff Plympton, King Philip

Jeff Plympton 2026 HockomockSports Baseball AwardsKing Philip head coach Jeff Plympton has been named the 2026 HockomockSports Baseball Coach of the Year. Plympton guided the Warriors to a historic season, helping KP capture the Division 2 state championship, the first state title in program history.

“What made Jeff’s coaching job so impressive was that this wasn’t an easy path,” said HockomockSports Editor Ryan Lanigan. “King Philip had its ups and downs throughout the season, including a tough stretch to close the regular season, but he was able to regroup the team and have the Warriors playing their best baseball when it mattered most. KP was always sound defensively, found different ways to manufacture runs, and got big performances from a number of different players during its tournament run.”

The Warriors went 17-8 overall and finished 10-6 in league play, taking third in a loaded Kelley-Rex division. But after the regular season ended, KP found another level. The Warriors opened the Division 2 tournament with a 3-0 win over Doherty, then rolled past league rival Canton, 17-4, to reach the quarterfinals.

From there, King Philip showed the toughness that defined its postseason run. The Warriors edged Reading, 1-0, at Moscariello Ballpark, battled past Longmeadow, 5-4, in the state semifinal at Holy Cross, and finished the job with a 4-1 win over Milton at Polar Park. KP leaned on one of the league’s best pitching staffs — which started as an inexperienced staff — timely hitting, and strong defense throughout the tournament, with Plympton helping the group bounce back from adversity late in the season and peak at the right time.

Plympton is the first King Philip coach to earn HockomockSports Baseball Coach of the Year honors. Previous winners include Taunton’s Blair Bourque (2025), Milford’s Alex Dion (2024), Foxboro’s Derek Suess (2022), Franklin’s Zach Brown (2019 and 2017), North Attleboro’s Mike Hart (2018), Stoughton’s Mike Armour (2016), Mansfield’s Joe Breen (2015), Oliver Ames’ Leo Duggan (2014), and Taunton’s Jeff Sylvia (2013).

Honorable Mention: Chris Hall (Mansfield), Blair Bourque (Taunton), Zach Brown (Franklin), Mike Hart (North Attleboro)
