They are the 31st and 32nd players chosen as Player of the Week for the 2023-24 school year and fifth and sixth in the spring season.

Kassev and Chen are the first doubles pairing for the Eagles and went unbeaten this week, helping Sharon secure four wins, including a pair of impressive non-league victories over Martha’s Vineyard and Bishop Feehan, to remain perfect on the season. The busy week started with a trip to undefeated Martha’s Vinyard (third in the Div. 3 power rankings). The Eagles showed no effects from the long travel time, pulling out a hard-fought 4-1 win. Kassev and Chen impressed in a 6-2, 7-5 win at first doubles. Sharon returned home the following day to face Kelley-Rex leader Attleboro and again pulled out a 4-1 victory. Kassev didn’t drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles and Chen, paired with Zwicker, was able to come from behind and take a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 tiebreaker win at first doubles. In the third match in as many days, Kassev and Chen were paired up at first double and won 6-2, 6-1 as the Eagles swept Stoughton. On Saturday, Sharon hosted Feehan (currently No. 11 in the D1 rankings) and swept the Shamrocks. Kassev and Chen were dominant in a 6-0, 6-2 victory that improved the Eagles to 11-0 on the season.

Player of the Week: Andrew Znoj, Mansfield Gymnastics

Andrew Znoj
By HockomockSports.com Staff

Mansfield junior Andrew Znoj has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Feb. 19 through Feb. 25. Znoj is the 23rd player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2023-24 school year and 10th in the winter season.

Znoj delivered a meet-best score of 9.70 on the vault at this weekend’s South Sectional meet at Algonquin High, helping the Hornets move up from fifth overall to take home the sectional title. Znoj also took first in the vault and second in the floor exercise at the State Individual Meet last Monday after winning both those events (and taking second in the uneven bars) at the Hockomock Gymnastics Championships, which the Davenport champion Hornets won with a team score of 140.65.

After starting the week with a pair of strong individual performances, Znoj and the Hornets faced an uphill battle at the team meet on Saturday. He scored a 9.075 on the bars and a team-high 9.60 on the floor, but the Hornets went into the vault sitting in fifth place, one placement shy of a spot at states. Mansfield came through with a combined score of 37.575 on the final apparatus, with Znoj’s 9.70 leading the way. Thanks to that final push, the Hornets leaped into first with a team total of 142.550, edging the Medway co-op team by 0.125 points. Mansfield also qualified for the state meet, which will take place on March 9 at Algonquin High.

Kailey Sullivan
By HockomockSports.com Staff

Foxboro junior Kailey Sullivan has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Feb. 12 through Feb. 18. Sullivan is the 22nd player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2023-24 school year and ninth in the winter season.

Sullivan had another outstanding week for the Davenport champions. She scored 20-plus points twice and helped Foxboro complete its second consecutive perfect Hockomock League campaign, closing it out with a dominating win over rival Oliver Ames. Sullivan is second in the league in scoring, just behind teammate Camryn Collins, at nearly 20 points per game and is one of the reasons that the defending Div. 2 state champs are favorites to claim the D3 title this season.

“She has really stepped up her game throughout the second half of this season,” said Foxboro coach Lisa Downs. “She is quietly scoring over 20 points in each of the last three games, while also adding significant numbers of assists. Her defensive game has improved tremendously as well – she is the real deal and is someone deserving of grabbing everyone’s attention.”

Foxboro opened the week with a visit from Canton and Sullivan led the way with 17 points in a convincing win that clinched the outright league title. On Friday night, Foxboro went on the road to face OA. Sullivan buried five three-pointers on her way to a game-high 28 points, as the Warriors pulled away, leading by as many as 30 points in the 68-44 win, which wrapped up a perfect Hock campaign. The following day, Foxboro was even more impressive, rolling to a 40-point win over Bridgewater-Raynham in the Comcast Tournament opener at Woburn High. Sullivan continued her hot shooting, finishing the game with 23 points. She made it three straight games with 20-plus points in a loss to unbeaten Wachusett, scoring a team-high 22.
